Worried for a while

On my way to work this morning I saw a cat on the highway that had been hit by a car. Now this highway is basically on the next block/street over I can see and hear from my house. The first thing that came across my mind was that I hoped it wasn't one of our kitties. Our kids when they are home are in and out all day long and don't even look to see if one is by the door sometimes they run away other times you have to shoo them away when you walk inside. But I still worry they might try to sneak outside and go exploring. Though none of my cats are outdoor cats, one I can put on a leash and take outside to check things out but that's rare we do that even. Eitherway the first thing that came to my mind was to have hubby check to make sure all 3 were accounted for. I would dread telling them that because no one was watching the door carefully she got out and met her demise. He texted he found 1 of the black ones but never texted back if he saw the other. When I got home I called them to see if they'd come running and sure enough they did. What a relief! Living right by a highway one worries that a pet may get out and meet it's fate. One of our neighbors was lucky their dog didn't get injured when he took off down the highway.

I'll never forget seeing a dog get hit by a car as I was merging on to a highway many years ago. I cried all the way to class (was on my way to college).

That would totally bother me too! Even worse when you see fools who have them in the back of an uncapped pick-up truck on the freeway.... stupid just stupid.

I worry about something happening to all the time my cats go out during the day aswell live in the country and they go crazy inside as they where all strays before I took them in but they know they have to be back in before dark as that's when the predators come around there are some nights when my little trouble maker takes his time coming home and I always worried about him but when I shake the treats he usually comes I think he just likes to make his mommy worry about him though he knows if he does not come back in on time he doesn't get a treat or to go back out the next day

You sound like you know your environment and how to keep you kitties safe at night. Truly if I want my cats that all I have to do as well is to shake a treat bag for them to come running!

No teeth? So then she probably is exclusive on wet food? Frankly my cats either are bugg'n me to fill their dish or when they hear that bag rumble they come a running. Funny how they are glued to you til you feed them!

That is a dread when having a pet. When I had my dog he went missing for four days..we were all just sick. I searched for him everyday after work burning up about 4 tanks of gas...one day he just comes strolling down the street. When he saw me he came running like ...gee I am happy to see you. I was at that point very angry with him! LOL

I've heard of dogs doing that. Disappear and you think you won't see them again and poof there they are. I worry bout our dog pulling that stuff because he's a hound and his main interest is food or following a good scent to wherever it goes.

This is just one reason why I love living in the country. Our house is located about 1/4th mile from a public road. So far we have lost no pets to that road. But wild animals and stray cats are often killed there. I'm so glad all your's were safe.

You are lucky to be that far in from the road indeed. I am very relieve they are ok and reminded the kids to make sure to shoo them if they see them at the door when they walk in, to also notice if they are there in the first place, and most of all push the screen door shut instead of waiting for it to go on it's own.

Through my life, I've been lucky that none of my pets has ever gotten out of the hose and been hit by a car. The closest that we've ever had was about two years ago when Michela got out of the house and started to take off toward the nearest really busy road (about four blocks away). She never did make it to the road though because one of our neighbors saw her and called to let us know that she'd gotten out. We were able to bring her back home before she really put herself in a lot of danger.

That was awful lucky that your neighbor spotted her! Even better knew who to call.

I too am saddened to see any pet at curbside deceased. It's not always the drivers fault they say to just hit them as the accident will be worse if you try to steer around the animal... especially deer!

hi 3snugglebunnies for awhile when I was pregnant the second time we lived in a rented house adjacent to an irrigation canal.our yard was fenced bu t it was old. however my son was just 11 months old and not allowed out in that back yard. but and this s till hurts Ihad a purebred puppy dachhund was going to be a show dog. He was allowed in t he back yard. I checked and no place was there that he co uld get out. but this day which I will never ever forget a little boy maybe six or so came screaming to my back door"Missus come quick the bad boys have your puppy and threw hinm in the water to see if he co uld swim. come quick please" He grabbed my hand I ran to the hole the teens had made in my fence and saw our puppy trying to swim, the neighbor man came to me and we did get the dog out of the the horribly swift moving current. but he was limp and no resuscitation would revive him. the neighbor man felt horrible as it was his teens who took my dog. He paid me 300 dollars the cost of our purchase of the puppy but that did not undo the damage. we moved from there as my dad put money d own on a two bedroom house for us in a safe place with a fenced in back yard.My dad said he had worried our son would fall in that canal too. And this is bizarre I had named the puppy Lucky. I am sitting here tears in my eyes remembering the little boy who wanted to save my puppy and the drowned puppy.

How tragic! That's a poor excuse to steal a puppy... to see if it could swim?!? It was awful nice of the man to pay you for the cost of the dog as that was the least he could do, but still not the same.

We live on a side street that runs between 2 very busy main streets. And people will often come FLYING through our neighborhood as a cut though between the two. I'm always seeing peoples pets who have been hit. Its tragic. We have a black cat who is indoor/outdoor (she used to be a stray) and I do worry about her.

My home is built near the side of a main road. In the road very noisy and crowded with buses and cars at all the time. This road is the one of the main route to many foreign places. This is the one of the reason why the road near my house is busy at all the time. There were many times my cats was passed away getting under the tyres of many vechiles. Almost my three cats was passed away by the same manner. Now i have only a single act with me. So i treat him nicely. I used to make sure that he do not go to the road. I case him and love him more than anything.

I used to have a similar experience.when I studied in college,i lived in school.the security of the school was not good, personal belongings were often stole.sometimes on my way to the labrary or to the classroom, when i left the dorm as the last one,i was suddenly worried about forgetting locking the door of the room.afer experiening such a feeling many times,I made sure that i had locked the door everytime i left our dorm.since then,i was not worried about it anymore, for i did what i can to avoid our stuff being stole.
