Is Shrek a good example for our kids to see?

I love watching the Shrek movies because they provide good morals for our kids to see and to learn. My favorite times in the Shrek movies is where a subliminal message is being given without detracting from the story. Shrek is an ogre who comes over as an obnoxious fool but he is far from that. Through Shrek we learn about beauty coming from within and accepting others for who and what they are. What do you get from the Shrek movies and do you think it helps our kids to accept others and to overlook the outer and seek for the inner person?

Thanks for your response Desmense and although the points you mention are valid I still believe that the creators of Shrek are very talented and there is a message for each and every one of us. Kindness and inner beauty are the two main points for me and just maybe we need reminding in subtle ways to be good to one another and accept people for who and what they are. we are all different in our own way and we can't expect everyone to think and act in what we believe to be the "RIGHT" way.

I do not think it is that thing Desmense. Sorry to be interrupting you with this area. But I think it doesn't really show that we should hate those little creatures. It is not actually the creature they hate their but the act that that creatures is doing. It is like the saying "Hate the sin but not the sinner"... But maybe you are right of that dangerous adventure, that is why we parents should be on the side of our children while they are watching so we could guide them on what is right or wrong. But I think in Shrek it was not showing kinds doing dangerous stuff since Shrek and Donkey also as Boots are all grown ups, that they are already able to do those stuffs, that is what children should understand.

Hi there. You are right with what you said about the morals of the Shrek Movie. I myself like it much. But I am not sure whether it could easily be understood by the young children with what they really wanted to express with that movie, that is why it is always advise that we parents should be there to guide our children on what they are watching, it is us who will help them understand the moral values of the movie. Because for them it is merely entertainment. But truly Shrek gives much value of the inner self, that beauty come from within.
Very good post. Keep it up.

Let me Add also the movie MULAN. They teaches us good morals. Like in Mulan it teaches is that women could also have the right as men, that men and women should be treated equal in some ways.

Mine are daughters, they don't like Shrek too much. They always prefer movies with human figures instead of animals. They're big fans of Barbie and also any other princesses. I think Shrek had some moral value for kids to see and enjoy because it's funny.

Shrek is a movie I always want to watch whenever I have a free time. It tells us so many lessons as a person. What you said about appreciating more the inner person is very true. Shrek is an ogre but fiona love him for what he is. The movie is so funny for me and I really like the tandem of shrek and donkey.
For me shrek is a wholesome movie even for kids.
