Some people let their kids watch anything that looks like a cartoon. I have 3 grandkids that aren't allowed to watch spongebob and 2 that are. I was wondering what are some of the things you do and don't let your kids watch. Why or why don't you let them watch certain cartoons?

My kids were allowed to watch Mr. Rogers every day and some carefully selected videotapes (this was in the late 80s!) but that was the extent of their TV viewing until they were older. I was blessed to be a stay at home mother so we played most of the day together and they learned things by watching nature and my teaching them things like why ice is cold or why not to touch the stove. When they were older I let them watch some things on TV but the cartoons were the old ones like Bug Bunny or Popeye. Television can really warp a child's mind, especially some of the stuff meant for children these days.

You just made me think....it's funny how we watched Bugs Bunny & Popeye when we were kids & it didn't make me (or others) violent....it was more to me good vs. evil. Now people say those older cartoons are too violent and it makes me laugh.

When my daughter was small, I let her to watch the Simpsons and Disney Channel. Even now, she still watches them occasionally. Apart from this, I also let her watch children's films like: Mulan, George of the jungle, Lion King and so on.
