The Law of Attraction--guarantee of success?

I have heard about the law of attraction a lot of times even when I was young. Recently I even saw a youtube video about it with a movie title "The Secret" which became very popular and they talk about the power of the "law of attraction" as the secret to success. I wonder, how true is this statement and how sure can we be of success using this law? Do you think if we really stick with this law, we will be assured of success?

Many people misunderstand The Secret. One is not handed things in this life merely because they think of them. Yes, I believe in the Law of Attraction which is to say that like attracts like. However The Secret book and DVD on touch the surface of this. I suggest that if you are really interested in the power of positive thinking that you read a more in-depth book on the subject. There are a lot of them out there. And no, there are no guarantees of success in this life.

I'm beginning to like the discussion here about the law of attraction and particularly about "The Secret" movie that promotes that law. To me, I believe there is no better proof than seeing it in your own life work. I also believe in the basics of the law of attraction shown in "The Secret" but in my own personal life ( practicing the methods shown in that film for about 6 months...), the effects are not convincing enough but there are surely some improvements in the areas wherein I'm focusing my thoughts from. Another thing I found is that the biggest change in me is my own way of thinking...from being negative to being more positive in all areas of my life, and this I believe would lead me to better things as time goes by. I somewhat agree with Suebee that in "The Secret" the law of attraction was presented in such a simplistic way that you doubt that it can work that easily like "magic" ( although I felt sometimes it does for some people ). Anyway, is it possible this "doubt" that I have can be one of the blocks? I don't know for sure...lol. But I hope you can share those other books or sources you were talking about that gives better ideas about the law of attraction, Suebee. I also agree a lot with Beaufly with the truths of "The Secret" shown in the movie like changing your negative talk to more positive ones, the power of focusing on what we want which is the area which will expound in your life, and whatever you believe will come to you. Yes, I think the movie should also have included on some practical steps and courses of action that would make this law more effective in our lives.

I agree Suebee. I think most people thought that The Secret held all of the answers regarding the Law of Attraction and all you had to do was just sit and wish all day. The larger point was missed but I do think that for real and true seekers of consciousness, it was a starting point. The Secret revealed some truths. 1) Many people have negative talk or chatter and that talk has to be harnessed (and dealt with). 2)What you think about will expand in your life. 3)Whether you believe in a hostile or friendly universe.....it does not matter, you are right and you will continue to manifest that belief in your life.... The biggest missing factor in The Secret (in my opinion) is the work, the action that you have to put behind the intention or belief. To actualize anything in life, your mind (what you believe), your actions (behaviors) have to align.

I agree that The Secret revealed some truths. And the basis, the underlying theory, being the Law of Attraction is also very true. It is a law of the universe just like the Law of Gravity, however The Secret is misleading when it come to putting this law into practice. Yes it is a very good INTRODUCTION into the law of attraction but if you are really interested there are a lot of better books out there that explain it in more detail. I firmly believe in the power of positive thinking and the law of attraction. It can indeed change your life but it is not as easy as people are led to believe. The Secret makes it sound so simple, when in fact, it takes a lot of work. If you think that you are going to just think about money and it will appear out of thin air, then you are sadly mistaken.

I've heard of the law of attraction and "The Secret", and I must say that I'm pretty skeptical. I haven't heard any success stories about working with this method, but maybe that's because I'm not looking in the right place. I don't think that thinking positively or wanting something enough is going to make the universe hand it to you, but to be honest I've only got second-hand knowledge of this method and I haven't studied it enough to be putting it down with my skepticism. I hope if practicing the law of attraction helps you that you'll share the story of your success with mylot.

Well for me, I have been practicing this law of attraction ( visualization and positive thinking and positive self-suggestions ) for a few months only and to be honest the results are not convincing enough yet...but I actually can see improvements in the are of which I am trying to attractive positively ( like money and relationships ), so I think these are good signs that I am on the right road and there are more positive things to come as long as I persist on them. I remember in the movie "The Secret" I saw in youtube, one of the speaker there talks about your "belief" as similar to a seed, and if you keep on believing that it's possible it would be possible for you, but if you said "this stuff doesn't work!" when in truth your belief is already growing to a point of almost reaching those desired goals, then when you claim that it doesn't work then everything fails and it really won't work because you have declared it...so I think persistence in applying the techniques in the law of attraction is also one important key to it.

I'll surely let you know if ever, allyoftherain. Let us say, I'm still also on the experimental side of it and I really can see potential. For now, what I can only claim is that I'm in a more positive state of mind and in the material side, my income has improved...but not significant enough. If I become rich, you will be one of the first people I would tell about it :D

I think I'll reserve judgement and read the book for myself. I've got some mighty powerful skepticism, so it might not work for me if I had to believe in it. lol Thanks for telling me about your experience with it though, and let me know if it works for you in the end.

I don't see any basis for it. It seems like someone's happy dream translated into a secret way to prosper. The fact is that life comes at us, and that includes the good times and the bad.

That's how I think of it before, but lately I am beginning to believe there is something about the law of attraction so I am beginning to practice those techniques more seriously. Anyway, when we watch "The Secret" movie we can see only very successful people explaining the law of attraction with their own experiences which makes them more convincing, to my opinion. Anyway, I think another good source of the law of attraction is the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, and he not only teaches about the law of attraction but also detailed steps and actions when can apply towards reaching our goals.

Good day BetterDays4Me, Well, as far as I know, it does not really promise or guarantee that you will be successful. The idea is like, when you are thinking positively, you will surely attract positive vibration. As your idea will turn positively and your thoughts will turn optimistic. Since you are optimistic in every act and every way you are doing, so every bits will be fine. That is the Law of Attraction all about. On the other hand, if you will be pessimistic and act negatively on every way you do, for sure, the outcome will turn gloomy. Thus, if we are optimistic in everything that we do, no matter the result is, what matters most is how we handle it.

Good day to you as well, airasheila, I definitely agree with a lot of what you said. It's all about attracting positive vibrations which will make it more possible to actually attract those you want in life. In the movie "The Secret" they also don't guarantee that you will attract everything you 'visualize' coming to you, but they added another important part which is 'feeling' that you already have them and these combinations of 'visualizing' and 'feeling' that it's actually there makes attraction stronger, and the stronger the attraction the more likely you will be able to attract that you were trying to attract. And this also holds true in attracting 'negativity' in our lives. And also I like your idea that if we are optimistic in everything that we do, we would have handled the situation the best way possible...and I think the results would also be the best possible results, in my opinion.

I think the success would be favorable having positivity in our thinking process and having to envision what we really want in life, and having that would mean creating a behavior that would tend to diminish negativity and thus in fact would surely induce happiness within us.

Yes, I do think that way too. We will be more prone to success applying the law of attraction...by habitually thinking positive thoughts, visualizing positive results and acting in positive ways towards that goal. And I agree that one goal that would be immediately reached with trying these steps is immediate positive feelings about ourselves and our lives or simply a state of happiness...which makes the entire process worth it!

I believe in the law of attraction. Success breeds success, likes attract like. Just like when you smile at a passing stranger, they will probably smile back, then pass that smile onto another person. I know from personal experience, that if I am positive, then things seem to go my way and I feel better. My co-worker, on the other hand, always seems to have drama going on. She is always "dealing" with things and complains. One of her favorite sayings seems to be, "Now what will happen?". To me, it's like she's asking for bad things to happen. I believe that the universe will give you what you ask for in that respect. If she is waiting for something bad to happen, then it will. If we think positive and wake up and say, "today is going to be a good day," then we attracted good & positive things. You can test that out yourself. So, to answer the question, I believe it guarantees success. It only starts with one success & then builds.

Hi JodeneB, Thanks for sharing your story about your co-worker as it explains well how the law of attraction works (in the opposite or negative way). I think your example shows clearly the power of 'expectations' and what you expect to happen, with the help of visualization of the emotions tied to them, you can expect that what you expect will happen. So in this case, I guess it would be better to expect only positive results by positive visualization and emotions to be able to attract only positive results. You also said her favorite saying is "Now what will happen?" so in this case what we consistently say or the words that usually comes out of our mouth are also part of the process of attraction, and we tend to attract what we often speak out or say. Words are powerful stuff. Actually in the beginning, God created the world by simply saying "Let there be light!" and there was light...and other creations were born by God's words alone...POWERFUL!

for me, there is some merit to this secret. Like when a person is always positive, he tends to be more pursuasive and more into doing and giving his all in his tasks. when you do and think positive you should be able to do more and put more into the things and then success will come because you did not give up. I believe this is really a good thing to take heart... i have thought of this as somewhat similar to the teachings of the bible, as Jesus as said, when you pray believe that you have it, and you have received it even as when you are still praying for it, and in truth you already have it.

The Secret was just the beginning if you are truly interested in learning about The Law of Attraction. I believe that you have to focus.....what you focus on, expands. The missing piece in The Secret is that you have to take ACTION in the direction of your focus. Most of our thoughts are negative so we have to take control of that. Stop focusing on the negative and what we don't want and start to focus on the things that we do want. Now, once we get a handle on that, begin to take steps toward those things and the life that you want. Begin to think, talk and dwell on the things, on the life that you want (vs the things that you don't want).

Well explained, Beaufly. Yes, I think we have to start with how we think by not giving time to any negative thoughts while focusing only on positive ones. I also believe that after that, ACTION towards these thought desires are needed...always focusing only on what we want...yes, these I think are the greatest basis of the law of attraction.

There are many Laws of the Universe but you have to gain control of the mind. You have to wrangle that inner critic and get control of that inner critic. You have to begin to align yourself, mind, spirit, actions and behaviors to line up with that which you want. You have to know that you can ACTUALIZE the LIFE that you want. You have to hold that thought and that thinking in your head.

I agree with all your "have tos", Beaufly. I think the universe is generous and it rewards us accordingly on how we think and act.
