Profitable or a Waste?

Has anyone here ever attempted to run a PTC or PTR site before? Are they profitable to an extent of being worth the initial investments of your time and money? I am seriously considering buying one. The question then becomes what makes a PTC/PTR site trustable in your opinion? Clearly low payouts is #1 but what else? Would you rather have contests or games? Do you enjoy surfing and click exchange? Do you prefer clix sites or bux sites or .com sites? With so many hundreds of such sites out there it makes me wonder if I could possibly carve out a place among them all.
