I have a bright idea!!

I am facing a bit of a problem identifying recent topics that could interest me and at the same time cannot think of posting any topics myself. So I was just thinking of just commenting on responses given on old topics posted by other users. Brilliant idea. Is it not? There is an ocean out there in case you are interested. Or are you already doing it?!!

I gave a few responses and comments this week to old discussions found with the internal search engine, and I even won a $0.03 reward yesterday -- my first this year --. To say the truth I was looking for specific topics, but I could not resist to give a response to some discussions. I find enough topics interesting for me daily, and I am more sure to get a comment in fresh topics than in 4 or 5 years old discussions. It is a brilliant idea only if you don't care to risk to never receive a comment.

I was just planning on commenting on responses received to old topics by others. It will be interesting I feel. I am not saying I will go back to 5 years but say two years and to topics posted by those who are very active here. What say?

It is a good idea. I have done it myself, and I have actually revived some "older" discussions by doing this. However, with notifiers not working properly ... they are "sketchy" at best recently ... the results might not be as good as when notifiers are working properly. Then again, if people check their user profiles on a regular basis, then they will see the discussion has had recent activity, so it still might work - it is definitely worth a try.

I used to do this when I was here more often and had more time, especially on discussions that interested me where the original poster of the discussion never replied back to any of the responders. Now, I do not do it much unless I really can't find anything interesting in the newer topics - mostly because I don't have as much time to search through things. I think it is a good idea, though, especially if you are not interested in anything that has been posted recently. In addition, while you are searching you might just receive a reward, which is also a nice bonus.

People here say they cannot find anything sometimes and that is the time to dig out old topics not to respond but to comment on resposes because responding would mean reading all the responses first which is not an easy task.

yes. it depends on the time we can allot for mylot. as you say if we have more time in a day-- then we can respond for old discussions also. I go to very old discussions very rarely -- I might have done probably three or four. I remember to have answered a discussion which is more than 5 years old. I cannot remember the topic.

Hi ak!
I read the other responses before writing my own. This discussion is classic example to prove that many users do not read the discussion properly and post whatever they feel like (whether relevant or irrelevant to the core issue).
Your idea appears bright on the surface.
You could give it a try and see if it works and respondents choose to comments on your comments.
I would not like to implement this idea. This is because if the host of the discussion or the respondent is unknown to me i.e. not in my friends' list, s/he may not fully understand the import or relevance of my comments.
Have a great day.

Am not talking about responding to random posts of unknown users (that I do).
My emphasis was on the point that I normally won't post my comments on the responses posted to discussions which have neither been started/responded by me nor started/responded by my friends on mylot.
Hope am Making sense.

I don't find it odd at all. I have never made any distinction between those on the friends list and others while participating.

This is news to me dpk! I just respond to topics that interest me regardless of who puts them up and that will apply also to my efforts to comment on old responses of other users who may not be on my friends list. The only problem I see is that we will not come to know as myLot does not send notifications of such participation!

I always wanted to go back to styling again and I plan on going back in the next few months. I need to sort out some things in my life and iron things out more so that it will be easier for me to multi-task and stuff. I also always wanted to go on a European trip and I plan ion doing that in 4 years. I need to save up, or look for a rich boyfriend lol.

I do like that. Many my discussions are deleted because the topics are deleted so that i think better i give my discussions on old topics so that i wont worry about my discussions are deleted more. Actually old topics are new to me because i am just active in mylot for a short time, so that nothing is new, nothing is old yet.
Keep doing it, my friend.

Good to be on the safe side. When in doubt leave it out!Old topics are indeed new to you and if they are still doing the rounds shows that they have passed the test!

Hello allknowing, that is what Im doing recently browsing and responding to old discussion. I turn on my ipod and set it in shuffle mode, when the song is interesting me I browse using mylot search bar try to find discussion related to the song I listen and mostly it is old discussion because my ipod full of oldies song. I find it is easier to participate a discussion which related to the music I listen, my mind flow by itself.
My mind is disconnected and cannot participate in recent discussion, I spotted some interesting recent discussions but Im unable to get my mind to give a response, it is like my mind is stuck and cannot let out my opinion but I dont want to log out from mylot so participating in old discussion related to music that I listen is helping me to refresh my mind.

Posting responses would mean first going through other responses which would be a herculean task.

I have ran across a bunch of older discussions that have interested me. I think it's perfectly appropriate to be active in older discussions, especially considering the guidelines...no repeats. It has never really mattered to me if they are older but I do like it if the starter of the discussion is still a member.

I don't have a lot of time and I don't search for old discussions. But sometimes they appear on the "recent" tab and I've posted responses. I think that some interesting topics deserve a revival. And also after a period of time, some discussions get a different meaning.

The only problem responding to old discussions would be that one would have to go through all the responses posted there for which one needs a lot of time. I would therefore just comment on responses posted there.

Actually, since the first time I'm join myLot, I haven't made any discussion yet. I don't know what should I write and I don't find any interesting topic to discuss, so I only responses to another discussion.....

Welcome to myLot!
If you do not have a topic to write on you can respond to topics posted by others. You are doing that already. You can also comment on responses of other users even though the topic is not yours. By and by you will get ideas to post topics here.

allknowing:
you may knowing more about mylot than myself because you have been here for a longer time.
I normally respond for new discussions and occasionally I answer old discussions similar to this. Normally I do not respond for very old discussions. your idea is right.

There are fantastic topics lined up here running into thousands and I feel commenting on responses would be easier than responding as I have explained above.

Well, I have been doing that even before. Really, the topics in myLot is quite limitless. With all the old and new discussions, there surely is something that will get the interest of any kind of person there is. Sometimes, when I cannot think about something to post or reply to the new discussions, I even go back to my older discussions to comment further and try to revive my own topic. It is easier to go back to such as there are already ideas given out compared to the new ones which ideas are still need to be generated to form out the discussion.

Commenting on responses would be a better idea as responding would be a bit difficult when there are already responses there. I am enjoying it already. Glad to see you are already doing it.
