This is my first discussion, and I was curious about how many of you are Techie computer users (by Techie, I mean technically inclined). I think if you're more knowledgeable about your computer than the usual computer user, you'll actually get more enjoyment out of your computer because it means that your computer is more likely to run faster and better (due to your care and maintenance of the computer). But that's easy for me to say because I was a technician before I retired.
Conversely, are you lost when it comes to figuring out computer problems?
Another good question is "How long have you had your computer?" I ask that because I'm curious about whether it still runs good. I've had people tell me that they're still running Windows 98 (a 14 year old operating system)and they claim that it continues to run very well.
How about you and your PC?

Well i'm finishing this semester on a Industrial Informatics in the Technological educational institute of Kavala here in Greece so that kind of makes me a techie computer user too. I have my computer for around 4 years it's a Core Duo 2ghz with a dual 2gb (800) ram and a 640 gb (7200) sata2 hd. Well I try to mentain it in the best contition possible I can but I guess sometime in the next year I need to replace it in order to have a good performance pc :)

Hi rayf,
Welcome!!
I am much curious on the daily updates and prefer to use and work more advanced levels. However I am not interfere with an advanced team so that I mostly do my trials and errors in most of the field. As long as now many a things are closely associated with software and which are available around and easily accessible, if we got some interest the area is so wide and can do a great lot of deal as and how we required and needed.

I am sort of techy? I know there is a button on the front of the machine that says “boot me”. That button has fixed a lot of problems.
I do suspect to be surpassed quickly because I’ve always thought why update, if it is working already? Actually there are a few computers in my place in use for different purposes because the doors don’t require door stops. Why not use the older ones if they serve a purpose. A new one would be better of course for all the newer applications coming out though.
Hope you enjoy mylot and have interesting discussions.
