Does seeing a tattoo on someone change your view of them?

I have wanted a tattoo for years but never plucked up the courage, but I'm hoping to get one in the next few days - a Phoenix symbol on my inner wrist, which is very important to me. I want it somewherer I can see it - obviously I can cover my wrist with long sleeves or a wide bangle but there's a good Chance that for a lot of the time it will be visible. I'm a very ordinary, boring looking person so I think a lot of people will be surprised/shocked when they see I got a tattoo! So how do you feel about tattoos - and would it change your view of a person if they got one?

I'm going to - just waiting to hear if the tattoo artist had a slot free on Thursday! I even told my mum about it tonight ...

Yep she went from a kind of WTF. Attitude to saying she understood my reasoning, doesn't like tattoos but understands why I want the one I want. Just need to make a appointment now, hopefully for this week.

I really like tattoos. I think they are cool. I think it's cool how someone chooses to express themselves in this way. The only type of tattoos that I am not impressed with are self-made tattoos or tattoos that seemingly don't have any intrinsic value. But I try not to judge. I just don't really like tramp stamps. . Personally I don't have any tattoos (YET) but I am planning on getting some, as soon as I figure out what I could put on myself that would be meaningful and artistic. I know some people, especially with the older generations, who are pretty close-minded and judgemental when it comes to tattoos and people having them. But, in this day and age, it seems like tattoos are becoming more and more socially acceptable. So these old timers just need to get with the times.

That's kind of my thought too - if someone decides they don't like me because I have a tattoo that's their problem, not mine. But then gain, my whole family hate tattoos so there is probably going to be trouble from my parents when I get one - even though I'm in my forties now!
