Missing friends

Every now and then a friend on MyLot will go missing. Sometimes for a day, sometimes for more than a day. I could name several, but I just talked to our oldest member, as she has been missing a week. Hatley says to let everyone know her health is fine, but her computer has sadly bitten the dust. It had a short circuit and melted a lot of the little parts inside. It will not even power on. She does not know if her son will rebuild it, or if she will need to get a new (used) one. She misses us a lot, was hoping someone would call so she could tell us her health is fine so we would not worry. She is very bored. I may have to write her a letter or send her a card. I intend to often, but sometimes put it off. My computer had a problem last night, or rather my modem, probably. I gave up and went to bed, but I had already been away from home for a day and a half and I really was missing my online connections. My son helped me with it this afternoon. I think as we get a bit older we really rely on our children. I guess this discussion could be about how we feel when we cannot get online for various reasons. I feel really lost, and bored, because I count on the interaction here as much as I do with people who live nearby.

Yes, I think we all have friends on here who we miss when we do not always see them around. I sometimes wish I lived closer when I hear people here having Computer problems so I could figure out a way to help them out. But I know when something happens and I am not around here for a couple of days if I have not posted anything people would miss me as much I would miss this site for sure.

Yes there are people here like me who miss you when you are not posting here. There is a lot going on right now with my health that is not good. Just waiting to see what happens tomorrow to help them decode what to do next.

I am not sure if people ever get a chance to miss me very much. I come on here a little almost every day. Yes, I do wonder about you when I am not hearing from you.

I know that I'm 3 weeks late with this response, and I haven't looked at my recent notifications (as I am still trying to catch up), but I hope that Hatley is fine. And I hope that she's up and running/on-line. I have been missing from myLot for a few days/weeks now. I can't believe how busy I have been with work. Often, I would have it open in the background, but I never really have the chance to respond or comment on anything. I think I would still be busy for another couple of weeks, and then maybe I could get on here more regularly.

I have not gotten back to Hatley by phone yet. No she does not have her computer repaired. My activity will be a little limited here as I am out of state, waiting on a grandbaby to be born. I will be sending her a letter or two and I believe others here have also written to her. I hope they post if they do.

hi gardengerty and bounce it took three weekends for my son to rebuild it as he now has a full time job, thank God, so then I come back and mylot has problems lol almost funny but those horrible storms were not funny I did get finally to have the last two days of quadruple earnings. before I could get on here and I could read all the lovely discussions, but post? no not at all.from that Friday eve til tues day before the fourth I could only get on and read I could not post responses or comments or even a discussion,it was really frustrating. so I went downstairs and played bingo with my friends, won six times but there were no prizes so we were just playing for fun. but even that got boring. So am glad to be back and active again.

I think that is so nice of you to write her a note! That shoes that you really do muss your regular friends here on Mylot and see tham as genuine friends. It must be nice to have a friend like you that really missed you when you are MIA for a while. Its such a sweet thing. Its hard to have real friends especially as you get older. It seems sometimes that you are lost at times and alone when your friends dispear.

No wonder I have seen nothing of Hatley lately. I have been concerned about her diabetes. Now I rest assured .Thank you for telling me this.It seems that she have to scrapped her computer this time. I remember something went wrong with her mouse last time. Her son later replaced it with a new one.She is so active here on Mylot. I can well imagine how upset she is now.

I will write her a letter to help keep her entertained, but there is really nothing that will help this other than a computer replacement or repair.

Her son might build her one from components, he has that skill. Or they may buy a refurbished one. I live several thousand miles away from her, so I do not know prices where she lives.I know most prices there are higher. I know a place where I could get one for around $200.

Judging by what you said about her computer,I think it is difficult to repair.Maybe she ends up buying a new one.I wonder how much an ordinary computer costs.

I know what you mean, GG, about feeling lost without being able to contact our friends. I will need to ask her for her phone number. I was so worried I made a discussion asking about her. I didn't see your discussion. Owlwings gave me the link to this discussion and that's how I came to learn about Aunt Hatley. I love her so much and don't want anything to happen to her.

The way I understand it, she does not have a personal phone number. She had to come down to the end of the hall when I called her, and she sounded a bit out of breath. I can give you the number I called. How would you ask her for her number if she is not online to ask?

hi pointlessQuestions and Garden Gerty july 9th I have a personal phone in my room but the people at the front desk evidently do not have my number. but I can pmessage you guys with it,I don't think the admins lets us put phone numbers in our responses.someone did that recently and had it deleted here.I lucked out with AT and T in that they have a special senior plan and it never costs me over 7 or 8 dollars a month which is so good for me,. wow.

I'll message her when she gets back online to see if she has a cell phone or something. I'll just be glad when she gets back online again. I wouldn't want to make her walk to the phone, so I guess I'll pass for now on that number. Thanks for offering. If I change my mind I'll message you or email you. Thanks!

It is hard when you make something part of your routine for so long, and then feel like you are missing something when you aren't able to get on it. Sometimes this happens to me the moment I really need the internet to do homework, or look something up, it suddenly loses connection.

I had gotten on for a little over an hour last night, checking on some sites and trying to get the daily stuff done on my earning sites. I had chosen not to take my computer with me when I went out of town, as I decided I was rude when I should have been visiting. I did feel totally lost, and I also missed some points on an earning site because I could not get it all done.

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to get in touch with Hatley. I'm sure that when you speak to her again, you will pass on all our good wishes and commiserations! Hatley is one of those remarkable people with a young and lively mind in an aged body (well, all of us are ageing - we can't escape that!). I can imagine how frustrating it must be sometimes for her to live where she does (though she rarely complains) and I know that the Internet - and MyLot in particular - is her lifeline. If I felt it would be of any use, I'd gladly donate a dollar or two from my MyLot earnings to a 'Get Hatley Online Sooner Than Yesterday' (GHOSTY) fund!

My interaction with people is done about 95% through myLot. How pathetic am I? lol. I know I spend way too much time online as I have many other things to occupy my time. I really don't understand why my computer gets top priority. I allow myself to be here for hours but other work I love to do like my jewellery making and art work and sewing and even just my chores or gardening all take a back seat. I think I'm weird that way but I'm sure I'm not alone.

I had just really noticed that she had not responded to my last discussion, and so I would have checked last night, but my connection went down for some strange reason. It could have been the thunderstorms. Did you get any of that rain and wind? It was not really bad here.

The wind came first, then the thunderstorm settled in last night. However, while Norman got some rain, we mostly got thunder and lightning. Other parts of Oklahoma got a lot more drenched. I'm just glad it cooled off.

hi gardengerty myson was here last night trying to put some finishing touches on my rebuilt computer. It has a generic audio visual driver that should not work on Vista but it works fine but the driver he wanted to install turned out to be conflicting with Windows Vista professional and he would start up my computer it would load then wham it would turn off and no matter what advice from Microsoft he tried he had the same problem so by then we were starting to see the funny side, my son said looking at me" oh gee now that was really helpful" as again my computer turned itself off. so naturally the only thing left to do was uninstall the driver so that he did and we both laughed to think the driver that was not supposed to work, worked fine, but the one recommended did not, windows vista refused it so now he said he would get me a new audio card next weekend. I am so glad he knew how to build me a new computer. lol.

That would be sad, and I think he would lose out in the long run. She is likely to take off if she takes a notion to and leave him with no help at all. Of course it would give you more peace in your own home to be on your own.

I think that is really just the nature of the Internet right in general on any website. Not just myLot mind you but pretty much every website that one could imagine right on the Internet. People tend to slide right off of the grid for a while, disappearing right into the night. There are times where life does really happen. And these people might pop up in a couple of days, maybe a couple of months, the thing about these bad things is that they cannot really warn you about anything. Therefore, there are just going to be many times where we just see people everyday, see their user names. Then one day, they don't seem to be showing up but we really notice after a number of days. Perhaps life just got busy or perhaps something happened.

I have friends like that as well and have no contact information. I am fortunate to be able to find Hatley at this time and check in with her. At one point she was homeless and was missing for nine months, and no one could contact her. Then as you say, she popped right back up.

I just learned that Darkwing who started here when I did hasdied of cancer. I really had missed her and wondered what had happened'to her she was really a very friendly mylotter. Yes I am seemingly stuck here in Gold Crest while my son is now working he had to take a job paying almost half of what he made when he was laid'off but he told me "mom a job now is a job as I am sick of being out of work" so hes happy and its okay. His boss seems to really like him too so thats good also.sort of sad that when I came here my son assured me mom yu will only be here for a shortr while til I can get a good job and afford to rent another apartment. he stillcannot afford that yet. but we are glad he is wo rking. my best friend's son is out of work now f or a year and he had a good job editing trailors for upcoming movies in Burbank so even the movie industry has c ut back

I always check my spam folder anyway. I have hit the not spam too. I have tried signing in and out of Mylot too. I just wish it would hurry up and get fixed. I don't like doing it manually. Takes more time. And I find myself reading others comments and it takes too much time. I haven't written any articles and I really need to get on it. Ugh!

I have plenty to do without the internet, but I really do miss it when I don't have it. It's a pain to dig out a phone book to look for a certain type of business--and be limited to the range it covers. It's annoying not to be able to check in with friends who aren't nearby; sure, I could call, but they are likely at work or asleep when I want to contact them--not a problem when emailing. It's difficult to get the range of news offline that is possible with just a few keystrokes online. There are just so many things that I do online that don't have an easy offline equivalent. This is driven home every time I have limited or no internet for any period of time. After a few hours, I start getting a bit antsy about the lack of internet. I think that many of us no longer really know how to function without internet. Sure, we can go without it for much of the day, but only as long as we know that we have access to it. The moment that we lose that access, it becomes an issue.

I'm glad to hear Ms.Hatley is well. I hate that she isn't connected..I can imagine how bored she must be. My issues have not been those that have kept me from getting connected. It did start out that way..I had to get another computer but I have been so busy. I long to visit and miss everyone terribly. I have been more active in the past couple of days than I have in over a month. I have been trying to catch up but it is hard.
