I am setting out on the adventure of raising bunnies for meat. Have any of you ever done this? Is it hard to kill them, skin them, clean them? I know they make wonderful pets but they also make great amounts of meat, and I am all about saving money, and this is just a cheaper way to feed my family of 5 that only has one income.

We did it a long time ago and yes, it's hard to kill them. Not physically, but mentally. My husband and I did a few, then said, "no more." We took them to another person to butcher. We butchered chickens and a steer, but no more rabbits. I know not everyone has a problem doing that, but we did.
The meat is very good and they're cheap to raise, so you get a good return on the money and time spent.

That is good to know. Do you cook it just like chicken, or is there special ways to do it. I have always heard rabbit stew but I never knew how to make it.

Yes, you can do pretty much everything with it that you do with chicken. I love fried rabbit with milk gravy and biscuits! But you can bake it or stew it. There are different versions of rabbit stew, but maybe the most common is to boil it with a few vegetables like you would any stew, then make dumplings to go with it.

I think I just puked a little. I personally would never and could never raise rabbits and then kill then eat them. I have a pet rabbit, and he's just like a child to me, and I couldnt imagine enjoying eating him. I know I would be a good farmer as I cant kill anything. I guess the first time its hard, but with practice it get's easier.
