Saturday a week ago, my son complained of a stomachache. But he wasn't that in real pain because he was still playing and eating. Saturday night he wasn't able to sleep, i checked his temperature, no fever. He and his dad went to the hospital and he was injected with a pain reliever which was a foul from the doctor. Sunday we rushed him to the hospital, he was operated immediately. Surgeon told me i almost lost him if i waited one more day. His appendix has raptured and it has spread he had to extract and clean everything. I couldn't cry, i was numb. He suffered a lot and i wish it were me and not him in there. It was hard. We stayed for 6 days in the hospital. Bill amounted to $2000. Just glad he's ok now.

Thanks Allen, this means a lot. He's ok now and he's recovering but no activities for him for the next 6 months. I've been strong and will be strong for him.

Wow. I have to say I remember to this day when I had those appendix pains. I was six years old when I had mine out. You are lucky that it was caught in time. Although these days, when they burst it is not as dangerous as it was back when I was a kid. I am not saying it isn't dangerous, it is, but they have much more technology these days to control that. But I hope he is doing okay. It is a scary thing to happen.

My son's appendix has ruptured Saturday. He was operated on the following day. The infection has spread to his liver and there's no technology that could have saved his life. But the doctor told me his resistance was really strong.

Why would they wait until the next day to operate? That sounds odd. But being he is young he does have a strong resistance. The doctors are right about that. I hope they got the infection under control. And I really hope he is going to recover real soon. Take care of him.

I am sorry Toni to hear about that with your son. So, who first diagnosed him at the hospital with the pain reliever, without first checking as to what was it that was indeed bothering him. It's a good thing that you were still able to bring him again to the hospital and was diagnosed correctly. Well, money is nothing compared to your son's life. Even if we don't have the money, we will do all we can, like take a loan etc. , just so our children will live.

We were at my parents'. It was the head of the District Hospital in that small municipality. I never trusted him but it was my husband who brought him to that hospital and i didn't know it was him who diagnosed my son and without laboratory test he just injected him with buscopan. I was smart enough to call on my son's pediatrician when i saw him still in pain and was having fever. She immediately ordered me to have some urine and blood test. Then i called him again to report the result and she told us to go home and bring him asap to the ER. Without my mother's instinct i could have lost him. My husband and i even argued about calling my son's pedia coz he said she was just gonna give our son the same thing. Good thing i didn't listen to him.

Yes, it's always our mother's instinct that can always save us, Toni. At any rate, no mother would be complacent when her son/daughter is still in pain despite the medicine that was given already. Mother's instinct would tell us that there is really something wrong.

So sorry to hear that this happened to your son. That would be awful. I hope that he starts to heal and recover quickly. Seeing our children is the most awful thing we can see, knowing that we physically aren't able to take the pain away. I'm glad that you were able to get him to the hospital in time. It is a scary thought thinking that we may have lost our child.

When the surgeon told me that if we have waited longer we could have lost him, that really shook me. I was shaken for a day and i just couldn't function normally. I stayed with him in the hospital for 6 days, never leaving his sight. He held my hand for strength when he's in pain. He is a strong boy though.

I'm glad that he's doing better. That would be very scary. I know that if i were in your situation I would feel the same way and I would be crying my eyes out for my little girl when I'm not next to her. I wouldn't want her to get more worried seeing me upset.

That must have been horrible for you, and painful/ traumatic for your son. And boy, did I cringe after you stated your hospital bill. But the good part is that it's all over. I hope the little one is now feeling much better.

Thanks. He is recovering now. Indeed it was painfully traumatic for him. We had an appointment with our surgeon last week and he said my son's resistance was really strong as the infection has actually spread to his liver. But he's doing well now and his wound is healing. Surgeon's appointment will be next week again.

Hi Toni, we were missing you. Well, we don't know when a disease will appear. Luckily for your son and your family all got well. The physicians have in time the problem detected and they have made what was right. I wish that your son will recover soon again. Have a nice day.

pain due to appendicitis is like that, doctor should have checked for that too, but may be didn't expect this for a child so young. when my brother in law got the pain we also treated him at home for three days before rushing him to hospital. It was scary. I am glad your son is okay, just see if you can bring up a case for the doctor.

The first doctor that diagnosed him was just plain stupid. IN fact when i called my pedia and just described my son's pain she told me that she's not going to give any pain reliever unless she could rule out that it's not appendicitis. Appendicitis among children is very common because of the food that they eat and it ruptures faster compared to adults.

I am so sorry to hear that, I hope he is okay now, send my regards to him, but how come he has appendix raptured, some thing must be wrong before, wish him heal soon for the pain and scars.

Nope there was nothing wrong before. The surgeon explained to us that appendicitis is common among children because of the food they eat. And children's appendix ruptures fast compared to adults. Appendicitis is a human time bomb.

Sad to hear that. Parents are always worried sick about their children. Did he eat anything that you were not aware of? It might have been some poisonous substance that he ate. I presume you and your son often eat out. Am I right? From now on, try to eat in since you know the foods at your home. If you intend to go out and spend some time with your son, you can bring home made foods to your destinations.

Appendicitis is a human time bomb. It could expire anytime soon no matter what you do or what you eat. But for children, it's because of the food that they eat. We don't usually eat out. And yes he eats junk food just like any other children. But having appendicitis is one that is unavoidable.

Toniganzon Dear friend, I can understand exactly what you have passed, and I should say, moments of nightmare! Although I have no family, I can understand perfectly well that the love of parents (ie you) to the children, is invaluable. However, what is most important that in the end everything went well. Now, from what I understand in your thread, your beloved son is staing well. This fills me with joy , although I am not yovr relative. I hope this comment made by an Italian friend who lives thousands of miles away, it also fills you with joy. Even here you have someone who loves you!

I"m so sorry to hear that toni. That was a negligence on the part of the doctor who injected the pain reliever without a thorough assessment of what was the real cause of stomachache. Next time if ever there is someone who would have the same symptoms make sure that it is properly assessed as to the type of pain, the site and duration . For each specific site, there are internal organs that might be involved. Anyway, what is important is that , your son is okay. Money can be earned but life cannot be restored once it's gone.

It is good that the doctors were able to operate on him before the spread of infection. I had a similar experience with my son last week but luckily I think it was a minor stomach upset and nothing so significant. I had to rush him to emergency room because of that. I wish you son quick recovery.

Injecting a pain reliever without further assessment is a very big mistake. You can actually sue the doctor and the hospital because of what they did. The negligence of the doctor without even asking for a urinalysis can only mean one thing, do not rely on that doctor again. He would have palpate the patient and asked about the pain. Appendicitis is one common cases in the hospital so it is not supposed to be a big problem. A ruptured appendicitis is also common, but if the doctor analyzed it before it even ruptured then the problem would not have gotten worse plus the bill on the hospital would not be so expensive compared to a ruptured appendicitis.

From where i am, suing that doctor for negligence is futile. No case against the doctor has succeeded here, it only drained the money of the complainant. A ruptured appendicitis indeed is common but not when it has become a sepsis.

What a tension filled week! It is terrible when children fall sick .As you pointed out, we would wish it were our own selves undergoing the pain instead of our children. I pray for his speedy recovery. How old is he?

Thank Goodness you got him to the hospital in time. I wish you the best, and please remember...it could have been a terribly different outcome if you had not made it to hospital in time. Treasure every moment because tomorrow your loved ones may not be here.
