Do you remember the time when you still had a dial up connection?

I can vaguely remember it even though it has just been 3 or 4 years.. it seems like it was so long ago. The dial up connection was so slow, that when i load a 3-4 minute youtube video, it take 30 minutes to 1 hour for me to watch the entire video. I am so glad we have dsl now.

Yes, I still remember my first experience being online. ISP was AOL, and we'd hear the dialing tone each time we're connected online. I think it was over 20 years ago, and I was so amazed to experience the new World Wide Web back then...

I barely remember when I had dial-up. that was back when I was a teenager. I hated how slow it was to send email. I did chat rooms also and hated how slow they were to send my messages. I am so glad not for years I've been using dsl. Thank goodness internet has better options.

Yeah, wireless internet amazes me sometimes. I remember people tripping over the chord and I would get so mad. I remember that if someone just picked up the phone it would interrupt your connection, and you couldn't be online and one the phone at the same time. However, back then, it seems like we had more choices for ISPs.

Yeah! Quite funny to remember that I painstakingly wait for pages in the internet to load on my dial up before! I am also contented with my super slow connection lagging in Ragnarok back then! But now, just some minutes of internet lag and I will be very frustrated already wanting to fight it out with my internet service provider! Good thing that technology evolves fast and we don't have to stay on dial up now.

Yeah, when you already get used to faster internet speed, you really don't want to go back to the slower ones. Who would?

Unfortunately I still use a dial-up connection. And still now I face slow speed. Actual I use it through my mobile. And it is very cheap.
Nice to meet you.

I remember almost to the day. It was eleven years and one month ago, when we moved to this house. I was amazed at how fast email downloaded! I couldn't get enough of this new "toy" of fast speed.
Back then, listening to music over the internet was a new thing and the closest most people got to video was animated graphics! The internet sure has changed since then and I'd hate to think I had to go back to dial up now.

yes, I can remember it very well. It would only stay connected for up to 2 hours before disconnecting, and I would never have been able to watch a video on Youtube for instance. Sending pictures through e-mail or uploading pictures was slow.. as just about everything else was. But because I didn't know any different, it all seemed to be OK.. Now I think it would drive me nuts! _Derek

OMG...YES!! I remember it quite clearly because I had no idea what I was missing with Highspeed. I didn't get on here a lot back then and I'm a pretty patient person. I don't have much money and I was getting it for free so even though my girls were bugging me to upgrade....i really pretty much ignored their pleas. I would come home from work and log on and go fix myself a coffee or a drink and by the time I got back, I'd be on the internet usually. Logging into Mylot took a little longer than it does now but like I said..I am (was) patient. Once on, I really had no trouble with it. Idid not get onto things like youtube or anything. I've only had highspeed for like 3 years now and I love it but it still has moments that are as slow as dialup. The biggest difference that I see is that I get more frustrated with it now and that is probably that I EXPECT more being it hi-speed. "No expectations=no disappointments.

You had it for free? lucky.. We had to pay for the cards to use in dial up though, they were cheaper than dsl of curse but it had just become unbearably slow. The dsl now has become quite fast these days no matter what the time is-- i love it.

For me, it was 13 years ago.
I can still remember when you had to plan out downloading stuff. I'd have to wait until everyone went to sleep, and then start it at 11 PM, and hope it was done by morning, or hope no one tried to call someone.
I can even remember, sneaking around my parents house unplugging the telephones, to prevent someone knocking me off line.
Cable internet for me these days. I still have a modem somewhere in the house I think. But it certainly hasn't been plugged in since 2002 or about.

Wow. that is such a long time ago.. maybe it was the fact that i got a computer pretty late too. i remember the time waking up early too- since the connection was a bit faster at dawn.. i always look t my parent's room to see if they woke up.. since they might scold me.

Oh I definitely remember dial-up Internet connection and the frustrations that came with it. I wrote a report recently about how up here in Canada, three percent still use dial-up. Although it's not something I would downgrade to, it is much, much cheaper than high-speed Internet ($2.95 vs. $75).

I remember. It made a funny little noise as it was "booting up" and took a while to actually get on line...

I certainly do remember this, even though it must be about ten years since we got our good connection. I remember when we weren't able to use the phone at the same time as the computer, and that would be a nightmare if it were the case now because nobody would ever be able to get hold of us as we're always on the internet. I think that the advances that have been made in the world of technology are really scary now, and it is something that we should be excited but also a little bit nervous about at the same time, as there is no knowing how the internet is going to go in the future.

I remember the time when i was downloading a free software 20mb from midnight until morning, taking about 10 hours with interruption and re-downloading it again the following day! Frustration, disappointment, and agitation were the emotions at that time when dial-up was used.

I had faced a lot of troubles while surfing when I was on my dial up connection. I faced a lot of errors while I am connecting to the internet. I was really fed up with the connection but now I am really happy I have a broadband connection which helps me to browse as well as download data easily and within short time.

I had experienced using a dial up connection before and it is really slow way of connecting to the internet. And as you said, loading sites like YouTube is also slow as well as searching in the net.
Good thing that there are now faster way to connect in the internet through the internet providers available now.

I remember having dial-up internet very clearly. Even though it was painfully slow compared to the broadband/cable connections we have today, it was still so amazing to see all this new information at your fingertips. The internet as a facility still fascinates me today but there's just something about that old squealing dial up tone that makes me very nostalgic!
