Have you notice we are like the only country where paranormal news is a norm

I get to watch news programs from different countries, and though they do have some paronormal news, it seemed like our news programs have the most of them. From mass demonic possessions, Fairy infestations, Aswang sightings, Manananggal attacks, ghost sightings and UFO's. What is it in our country that other countries dont have that makes us more exposed in paranormal activities? I dont think a mass demonic possesion had been a headline in CNN or al jazeera.

Its because viewers bite these kind of stories. And, of course, the media takes advantage of that, because that's how business goes.
It's just like how recording companies give a singing career to someone who obviously doesn't have the talent in singing, but because they have good fan base, then that means business.

Why do do you think other countries prefer hiding their paranormal events to the the public. I mean there are hundreds of Alien Abduction experiences in the US but they dont show it in the news.

How do you know that there are "hundreds" of those events, if the people in US don't even know about it? Like you said their media is hiding it, so how would those news get to you.

because of hundreds of claims, the roswell incident I think caused mass hysteria. There had been ex Pentagon US employees who confessed about the cover up.

I've noticed that too. For other countries, they are more inclined to UFO sightings compared to us, but definitely those news don't make CNN or anything as such. More likely, they are featured at some local state news. Here in our country, I guess, we are more mesmerized and amazed with ghost sightings, demonic possessions and even some apparitions and these news actually increase during the Lenten season and Undas or All Saints' & Souls' Days. I guess news programs get a hold of such stories because they never fail to entertain and increase show ratings since most of us are still superstitious when it comes to supernatural beings.

while western societies are going to the atheist/agnostic route...so yeah paranormal stuff is like not used in mainstream news. we even have news about "living saints" and Faith healers.

Yeah, faith healers. And people even believe that their cancer and terminal illnesses can be cured by such faith healers. I don't know but I'm just not really a fan of faith healers. The thing is, we are unaware that maybe it's faith that heals or the cure is all psychosomatic or something, but those things are not mentioned on any news. Such news are programmed to amaze people for things that are not really that amazing or probably those news are a little bit crafted towards what people want to hear instead of being open to other scientific possibilities. Just saying.

there is a thing known as placebo....there are patients who dont felt good if they dont take medicine, even if they dont have too.... so doctors will just give them a tic tac, making them believe its a pill.
Also sometimes faith have psychological effects to humans that makes them actually get cured despite of how acute their ilness is.

I would rather believe in UFOs rather than the paranormal activities. News reports can offer the paranormal events as a short feature, but not to the extent to make it as a news given a significant air time. Did you noticed that demonic possessions of people or students occurs when there is a TV crew around?

I think the most recent one is only caught by cellphone. then TV crews go the school and interview the principal.

I think there are many exorcism cases in the US but families rather keep it secret...US population is still 50% christian. so there are still Americans who believes in God. Its just that the atheist ones are more vocal in the internet and TV.

hi Albert, I'm sorry but I beg to disagree that we are the only country that views paranormal as normal, maybe some countries just do not have programs or Anchors like Miss Korina Sanchez, perhaps if they air programs like this from African countries or the Caribbean or in countries where religious beliefs like vodoo are rampant then perhaps we would think of our selves as not so exclusive, but to be fair I think you also have a good point cause we are one of them or has the previlge to have such programs in news and T.V.

I wish we did have more paranormal news in my country (UK)! The best we seem to get over here is something like 'Most Haunted', which is a 'reality' show where a team of ghost hunters/psychic mediums investigate haunted properties and places. It can become quite laughable at times though. It would be so much better if we actually reported paranormal incidents through more mainstream channels and reporting feeds instead of through sometimes-dramatized TV shows.

about thazt Mermaid news story, My country's government have no comment about it.... though it was said that the environmental branch of government is said to confiscate the so called mermaid. mots locals who lives on that island, really claimed they caught a mermaid and they put her in a fish tank,

I think there are paranormal incidents in UK but your media prefers to hide them because they want their news programs to be taken seriously...I remember 2 years ago this is a headline in primetime news in my country: "mermaid caught by fishermen, confiscated by environmentalist"

Now you see, that's the kind of headline that I WANT to hear about on my news reports!
I agree that the majority of UK news programmes want to be taken 'seriously' so dismiss a lot of paranormal incidents as not being newsworthy. Unfortunately we live in a very judgemental society where it's easier to dismiss things rather than have an open mind.

Here in the USA our government has a good bit of control over what goes on TV. Because the paranormal does not fit into the safe enviroment they wish to portray it may cause hystaria. The things you spoke of may still happen but it is hidden from the average citizen. We do have shows for entertainment like x-files and Ghost Hunters. UFO's don't exist (though i swear I saw one this one time) and stories are made to cover what you think you saw.

In my country the paranormal stuff is shoved in out faces while in the US they kept every paranomal event as hidden as possible. You are right, it could cause mass hysteria. I ther are still a huge percentage of religious people in the US and I dont think they will like a news report about a public school having every student possessed...(yup it is a news headline in my country)
