My little dumb phone

As I read through posts in cell phone section, most of it as about smart phones... Does anybody use dumb phones, or just to be politically correct - not so smart phones-, anymore? I noticed it in my surroundings as well... People are just clicking away at their phones, listening to music & watching videos on their phone, etc, etc... Because of my job, I've used few smart phones myself for a while but recent change of positions, I didn't need a smart phone anymore... So naturally, I changed to a simple flip phone... Then few of my co-workers are telling me I should've kept the smart phone... Personally, there's nothing I can't do on my dumb phone that I could do on a smart phone... I make & receive calls, send & receive text messages, & rarely I look up something real quick on the net... I asked them why I should pay more for data plan when I can do everything I need to do on my current phone & they couldn't give me an answer... Anybody feel like that, paying for something you really don't need as far as phone bill goes?

I've got a dumb phone! lol I've never called it a dumb phone, just an old phone, until now. I think you're totally right. I do not want to pay $70 a month for a phone, especially when I don't need most of the features! I feel like people with smart phone have them in their hands all the time and are always paying attention to the phone instead of the people and things around them. I don't need to look stuff up on the internet, play games, or check my e-mail 24/7 on a phone all the time. It's money and time wasted as far as I'm concerned.

Lol... I don't know where I heard that before but somehow I got stuck with the term "dumb phone"... But yeah, I often wondered whatever happened to human contact? They say all these new technologies make it easier for people to connect with each other but I realized there's not as much of human physical contacts any more as it used to be... Whatever happened to getting together over a cup of coffee or few drinks & just shooting the breeze with few friends once a week or twice a month? Now it's all about Skype & facetimes & Facebook updates... You call that a human contact? Not for me... Few of my friends insists on text messaging... Even at that, when somebody sends me a text message & says, "hey, you wanna get together tonight & play some poker?", I make a point to "call them" & "talk" to them about it, setting up time & place & who else to invite & etc etc... Text messages seem so impersonal to me... I don't know, call me an old fashion but I'd much rather have a human contact than a Facebook contact... Just saying...

I deactivated my Facebook not five minutes ago thinking the same thing! I hardly ever used it anyway, I'm very much like you and I'd rather have human contact than a Facebook contact!
My old global economics teacher used to say, "Sure, technology really bring us together! I can talk to someone in China and ignore my own kid."
That's how I feel about technology and today's evolution of communication... it ultimately has driven us further apart rather than bringing us all closer together. So I'll be old fashioned, but I love having a real conversation with a good friend without phones involved.

Lol... I love the part about talking to someone in china & ignoring own kids... I think that's pretty sad if you really think about it but then there's some twisted humor in that as well... Don't get me wrong, phones, among other theological advancements, can help us to be more affective & they do make our lives easier... They do make the quality of our lives better, for the most part... I'm not against human advancements, weather it be technological, social or otherwise... But where do we draw the line? At what point did we become so depended on technology that we'd rather sever Human contacts in the name of technology? When did we start to much rather talk to a machine, or through it, than a direct human conversation? I don't know... At times, I think I'm getting too philosophical or even paranoid about it but then other times, I can't help but to notice...

My phone is mentally challenged!!!
I have a simple flip phone. I never surf the web on it. Never even text on it. I only use it to call people on, or to answer when people call me.
After all, isn't that what a phone is for?

Well, my husband does not have a Smart Phone yet, but sometimes wishing he had one, and I do know a few without them around me. There are many reasons though I Love mine, and would never go back, but it really should be a personal opinion. If you cannot afford one, or do not see the need do not let it bother you. But when you want to really do something online, I find these to be about the best. So it is a personal choice for sure. I just know I would be lost without mine.

It's not a matter of either I can afford it or not... It has to do with practicality... I'm sure you don't wanna pay for something you don't need or use... As far as doing something online, I actually didn't like the size of the phone anyway... I'd much rather use my iPad... Because of my work, I do spend a lot of time on line & I found myself hunched over a little phone in my hand straining my eyes over tiny little screen... I work as a translator & I do a lot of document translation... And my work also relies heavily on being able to communicate, weather it's via phone calls or emails... Even though it's nice to have access to all that the smart phones do, I didn't really feel comfortable with it... Also, as my responsibility grows every year, I have to demand more & more from my communication devices & "smart phones" weren't really cutting it... I go through some where between 2,500 - 5,000 minutes of voice calls every month... Not to mention little over 3,000 - 5,000 emails a month... Yeah, I get around 100 emails a day... Since I work on commissions, I do work weekends as well & I get emails all the time... They're mostly forwarded attached documents I have to translate & few progress report emails & some other things... I don't really care how smart the phones were, they just weren't cut out to handle what I needed it to do...

I rewally don't know why they call some phones smartphones. Maybe they think the phones are smarter than humans, and in some cases I suppose that is so true, but in all essence, I have had both, the regular phones and smarph0ones. I do like the smartphones better though, because of the features. I just happen to like a phone with a lot of features, as I can do more with it and I can use the internet when I am not near my computer. I think that is the biggest reason I use it, as I do check my bank balance when I am out and about so I know how much I have to spend. I sure couldn't do that with the regular phones that I had, simply because I couldn't download apps on it, like I can with my smartphone. It has really come in handy that is for sure, and I am glad that I use a smartphone. Take care, and have a very good day.
