Allergy that affects my eyes and eyesight!

Since I had laser surgery for my eyes a few years ago, I have had recurring eye allergies and conjunctivitis. When I had it I also had silicon implants into the tear ducts for a severe dry eye condition. I am very well pleased with the results of the surgery, but I think it has made my eyes more sensitive to air born allergies and contaminates. Today, my eyes have been driving me nuts with itching and burning. Normally, it does not start like that for me until the end of next month, but our weather this year is way ahead of what normally occurs. For me, and perhaps for other people, when it gets like this it affects my vision in general and makes it hard to keep my eyes open. I've been using a doctor recommended eye lid wash and frequently, to keep the air born allergens away from my eyes. It works well, but tonight, the allergy has progressed and has made me very sleepy. It has been hard to keep my eyes open. I will probably use the eye wash, lubricating drops, and other allergy medicines and just go to bed early. Do you have problems with allergies that affect your eyes? What do you do for it? Are your eyes more sensitive now and why?

Thanks for your response. Eye strain from watching things like computer screens television, etc., can be a real problem and glasses sometimes help. Glad you are aware of the problems you have with allergies and I pray they don't get worse over the years.

Allergies are actually an exaggerated response by a certain kinda antigen but its really of no use because in a way its actually an attempt to protect the host body against some thing it actually has no threat against , by the body itself. I myself, am not allergic to anything in particular , but my eyes are sensitive to dust and access water vapor along with any other kinda abnormal change in the environment . That kind of reactions are actually supposed to happen so on my side everything is normal . Although if you ask me your problem seems much worse , well best wishes from me and I hope you'll be able to deal with it soon. good luck!

Thanks Bill for your response. Glad to hear your eyes are normal. Yep, mine definitely are not, nor were my allergies.

Well, I had Cataract surgery about 4 yrs. ago, and there are times where my eyes are a little more sensitive than others, and so I always have Drops with me to lubricate the eyes when they are feeling a little more dry and itchy. I notice sometimes like you said with the weather change, especially when it warmer sometimes a change and need more drops, or certain smells, or when I am tired. Also I think certain types of foods might affect them as well. But when mine are bothering me I just use more drops in my eyes, and know usually this will be short lived, and this too shall pass, but if yours is continuously like this, you might mention it to a Doctor.

Thanks for your response. I have mentioned it to him and he indicated it is due to the implants, but that taking them out isn't a good idea either. He has given me an antibiotic drop for the times when it is more than just dry eye. But with the silicon implants, they don't make enough moisturizing drops to help! Fortunately with the drops, it is manageable!

Actually my eyes do better now than when I was younger. Yes, they are sensitive to the spring pollen, though. I just use an artificial tears formula, and wash my hair frequently to keep from bringing pollen to my bed so much. My old eye doctor said that vitamins A and D were good for my eyesight as well. I hope you get past the allergy season soon.

My big allergy is to weeds, not the other pollens. I took allergy shots for years, and trust me, the allergies are much better than they used to be. Like you, washing air borne things off my skin is very important. I've taken vitamin supplements since I was young..lol.... around 50 years. Thanks for your response! I'm looking forward to the end of the allergy season.

Have you seen an eye doctor since that laser surgery? They might be able to tell you something to rid you of the problem once and for all.

Yes, I have and that is why the antibiotic drops for the severe times when it is more than just dry eye. I thought perhaps I was reacting to the silicon implants, but the doctor doesn't think so. He thinks it is more the allergens than anything.

Yeah I have also been noticing that my eyes have been really bad this year with all the pollen in the air. I personally just take a hot wash cloth and put it over my eyes to reduce the inflammation and pain. This seems to work pretty well for me.

Like you, I use a hot wash cloth at times to relieve eye pain from swelling normally due to sinusitis. Where I live there is a lot of dust blown around in the air and because it is a big city, other contaminates. Thanks for your response.

Eating a spoonful of honey daily, from local bees, is said to assist those who suffer from pollen allergies.

I use local honey all the time and it hasn't helped me at all. But perhaps it does for some people. Thanks for your response.
