assembly required Grrr! I recently purchased book shelve for my bed room it looked great at first glace in the store, and I thought that it would be easy to assemble but No! I spent hours trying to decipher the confusing instructions manual but to know avail the book shelve ended up being returned to the store
Yeah, yeah you'd think it be easy to put a simple book shelf together but nope not when the instructions are partially in spanish and the wood is cracking after the nails are pounded in.
After that annoying experience I decided not to buy anymore furniture items that require assembly now if only I could find a low cost store with items already assembled sigh! well tell me your experiences with items that requires assembly was your experience good or bad?

I have given up on any furniture that requires assembly. . .no matter how easy it looks, there's always either a part missing, the directions are incomplete the wood splits, the nail holes are too small (or nonexistent), the nails or screws are too long, the color on some of the pieces is off, the holes on one piece don't line up with the holes on the adjoining piece. . . . I think that's all of the problems I've encountered with assembly-required furniture, but I am sure there are even more! I just don't want to experience them, so I have given up, and pay more for my pre-assembled furniture!

Yeah your right something seems to always go wrong with items that require assembly
I decided to avoid furniture items that are not already assembled upon purchase because I'm not a carpenter, sure I'm a creative person but not when it comes to nails and hammer lol nah not gonna go through that again.

Sorry but i had to laugh when i read your discussion... I have tried to put alot of flat pack furniture together in the past too... The first thing i always do is throw away the instruction sheet because if anything is going to confuse you more than anything it, it will be the instructions..
I have found that sometimes they arent even written in english and so are no good either,
Alot of the flat pack things i have assembles usually comes from Ikea, and they are maked with little stickers telling you what goes where and so it is just a matter of joining the numbers... In theory anyway...
But if you ever do this again, just get rid of the instructins and use simple common sense...You will end up with less frustration and confusion that way..

Funny that you should ask. Two weeks ago my neighbor and I purchased a shopping cart. It came assembled with the exception of the wheels and we thought now how hard can this actually be. We found out and two hours later we threw our hands up in the air. We were ready to hire someone to put it together when a friend said that she would give it a try and twenty minutes later she had it put together for us.

Yes and we always have a fit putting that stuff together. It looks like it would be easy until you get down to it. Those instructions can be hokey too. We have had parts left over before and we didn't know if they were extras or if we forgot to do something

All of my cabinets and shelves are knock downs or require assembly when I first bought them. Even my dining set can be dismantled and my bed. I guess the only furniture in the house that I didn't assemble is my couch and the electrical appliances. I never found it hard to assemble my furniture. Maybe it's because I grew up in a Lego environment and I love creating things from scratch.
Also, here in my country I can request from the store to assemble the cabinet or shelves for me. I do this with items that I know I will have a hard time doing so, especially when the parts are really heavy. But I assembled my bookcase and my bed when I moved in here at my house six years ago.

I have ordered lots of furniture that needs assembly. E.g. Book shelve, dressing table, computer desk, shoe cabinet and so on. I know I won't be good at assembly, so I hire the carpenter to do the job. Buying these type of furniture are cheaper and can be easily match with the furniture I already have in the house. Including paying the labour fee, they are still cheaper than the ready made ones. Frankly, these furniture are good quality as well.

I assembled all furniture in my room alone. But I got from Ikea and they made everything to be really simple to assemble yourself. There was only one part I was confused with when doing the closed and it actually took me more than one day to figure haha

I have had several pieces of furniture that I had to assemble. An Armoire, two chairs (just the legs), a desk, a coffee table, an entire dining room set, and even some pieces of cookware (just the handles). It is not something that I like doing, but I don't have a lot of trouble assembling things

We recently bought a dining table set and also a cloth liner. We managed to fit the cloth liner although we did not have any instruction manual. The dining table was fixed by the company people and we would have had a tough time if we were to assemble it. Happy mylotting.

I have purchased unassembled furniture in my lfe more than once. it never seems to run smoothly. Pieces don't fit together right or else we have extra pieces left over after the assembly. I think I even have a porch swing and end table set still in their boxes. Whatever happened to buying furniture already assembled. This furniture in a box is such a headache.

Yes and they turn out to be not to bad works. Once you get it assembled you'll be glad you did. Depending on where you bought it, they may be able to assemble it for you with a small fee.

I've once purchased a desk from TB (a widely used online B2C platform in my country), at first i thought it would be easy to assmble, and there're detailed instructions in seller's online store, when the desk was delivered to my house, i found, yes, indeed, it's easy to assmble, but when i tired to tighten up one of the screws welding on top of the legs, the screw got broken, i had no way but asked the seller to send me another one. Fortunately, the seller sent me another desk leg at once, and to my total surprise, it's for free. I thought, maybe, the seller knwe well that this desk might had such problem, so i took it for granted. I've had this tesk for more than a year, and now i am using my PC,right on the desk, to compose this message, so maybe, i think the broken scrwe might be an event of small probablity. So i think this experience might be a good one.

I have also gotten a book shelf. Tall one and there was a place in the middle that had to be reinforced but it didn't work so I took it back. Wasn't real happen. Before that we got an entertainment center and I remember my daughter and I in the middle of the floor with crap all around us trying to get one side to stand while we got the other side fixed and......oh my gosh. It was a situation but we did get it put together. We need another one because it is getting sort of lopsided now. Oops!

I decorated my bedroom in October, and I decided that I was only going to be looking at furniture that I could assemble myself, as I didn't have a lot of money at that time and I knew that I was going to be able to get better things if I was willing to build them myself. I actually enjoyed it in the long term, and I found that I was much better at it than I thought I was going to be. One of the most important things that you need to do is to make sure that you look at the instruction book, as you can't go wrong if you follow everything that they're telling you to do.

I bought a trolley that needed assembling. Every single part had to be fitted. The parts had grooves and so no screws were required. If it is pushed around too much then the fitting becomes loose. We need to watch out for this.We use it more as a show piece!

hi there apples99,
so many times that i have purchased assembled type furniture. luckily i all found them fine and easy to build. perhaps, i have the tools that i needed to tighten the screws to be able to assemble it properly. aside from the knowledge that i have gained from my previous job (as i am exposed in tools assembly department). in your situation, if only your location is just a stones throw away from me, it will be my pleasure to help you with that. and to further assist you in assembling furniture for your future purchases. however, it is not. so better to get an items which does not requires a lot of assembling or better ask the furniture personnel to do it for you instead.
cheers.

Yes but my husband assembled them. We have purchased 3 furniture that needs to be assembled. It cane be pre-assemble by the store however, it will not fit in our car so instead of having it delivered with charge my husband said he will do it. I am just glad that my husband is so patient when it comes with this. So I am problem free, lol!
