I don't know, as much as I love books... I don't think reading books qualifies me for "Reading the world". That's a pretty tall reading order, I don't know that it would fit on my to-read shelf. Where'd you find this quote, and who said it?

... but who said this quote you're referring to?
There are probably more than millions of books in the world, and I could never hope to read even a tenth of them. I love to read, and I do believe reading increases my knowledge and understanding of the world.

Can,t say much about the quote (,cause Ihaven,t heard it ) But I do agree that reading enriches us .Sometimes when we are in a group and the topic of discussion is such of which I know alot before hand I go ahead with confidence .Knowledge is like an ocean ,there is no end to it .

This line reminds me of my mother. She loves to read, even the oldest issues of magazines. She knows a lot of things from other countries, sounded like shes been there before. If a friend would visit our place and tells about their travel, and she can easily relate and keep the conversation coming. I wished she really had traveled those places she had read, experienced the way how people live. And make those things real in her real world.

Yes, what we read reflects the world we know. What i understand from the quote is that though the world is not exactly portrayed as it is in some books, like fiction for example, still books tell something about us, the capacity of the mind to transcend beyond what it is and invent something new.
