I went to see the latest Tim Burton film 'Dark Shadows' that is based on a 1960s soap opera of the same name, featuring the Collins family and the return of a cursed forebear who was turned into a vampire.I have never actually seen (or even heard of) this TV programme and never remember it being shown here in the UK. The film is a Gothic horror/ comedy film starring Burton’s regular actors - the wonderfully talented Johnny Depp and Burton’s wife - Helena Bonham Carter, as well as Michelle Pfeiffer, Have any of you watched this film and what did you think of it compared to the TV program,if you remember that?

I remember the show, and I saw the movie. I loved the movie and while it was played a bit more comedic, I think the Barnabas reaction to the 20th century was great! I remember the show did what most soaps do, follow different threads during the 30 minutes of the soap, so the entire Barnabas thread spread over a couple of years.

It was funny wasn't it?? I must say I really enjoy any of the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp? Helena Bonham Carter films. I wish that I had seen the old TV programme it would have been interesting to compare them.

the two things they didn't do in the show was have Angelique living on and taking over the fishing business or the whole rolling around in the board room thing... I don't think they considered the former and they SURE couldn't get the latter on afternoon TV in the 1960's.

I have not seen the movie as I don´t go to see horror movies now. But I remember the TV program of the 60 as one of the best at the time. I don´t think it would have been as good without the presence of the main character, Barnabas Collins, played by a wonderful canadian actor.

I read that too, a few days ago. But he did not have many roles at movies after that one, it seems.

I have not seen the film, but I remember as a boy growing up that Dark Shadows was on after school. I think it was on at 4:00 pm Monday - Friday. I watched it some but was not a real faithful follower. I think I found it all a bit scary, unlike the youth of today who seem to thrive on vampires and werewolves.

I enjoyed the original show and was glad to see actors would be in the new movie. Sadly, the actor passed away after doing the cameo role, but he was glad to see the movie was done. I think people should see the movie, as it was well done. Great cast and always glad to see them.

I sure do! All of my friends and I just HAD to rush to one of our homes after school to see it every day. Believe it or not, a lot of young girls had huge crushes on Barnabas back then even though he was certainly no Johnny Depp...lol! (RIP Jonathan Frid.) I don't know if he's portrayed at all in the movie, but my favorite was Quentin, as played by a very young and handsome David Selby. He and Kate Jackson are two of the cast members of Dark Shadows who went on to bigger and better things. The original Angelique, Lara Parker, later co-starred in "Race With the Devil" with Peter Fonda and Loretta Swit in the mid-seventies. Annie

I don't think that the Quentin character was in the film, he is certainly not on the cast list!
