Do you take time out for yourself each week to devote to a hobby?

I was listening to the radio on the way home from work tonight and they were talking about how it's important for women to set aside two hours a week toward their interest/hobby. That this will give us refreshment. I started to think about how most of my free time is spent trying to earn a little extra income. So I will have to think of something that I really want to do that is my time? What have hobbies have you been pursuing? If you haven't what are some hobbies that you would like to pursue?

Yeah I agree with you. Since I heard that last night I've been trying to think of things that I could do. I was thinking about starting to write in my journal since I haven't done that in a while, take pictures and start collecting things. I hope that you will start devoting time for yourself as well. I really do think that it will help with our personal development.

After I give birth, I am looking forward to enroll in yoga or pilates classes in the city, and also driving lessons. Right now, I have to stay at home and rest since im nearly due. The only hobby I can get busy with right now, is myLot and internet surfing.
Also, I want to enroll in either culinary or dressmaking.

Awesome. Those all sound like neat and interesting things to do. I'm still trying to think of what is something that I would like to do. I like doing things on mylot but I really should do something else as I consider this part of my work and earning system that I have. I'm thinking about writing in my journal as I haven't done that in years.

You can even go blog writing, if you love writing about your life and experiences. Then, side by side, you can do myLot, too.
I started a blogsite, and had a few blog posts. I stopped writing after 2 months, and when i got stuck here in myLot. I think I'm really not much in to writing, afterall.
I still have to look for a good yoga class or center around here. There's not too many unless I really go for the expensive gyms.

I do take time out for my hobby, scrapbooking. I have been getting together with a friend of mine every weekend for the past month, and she does her crafting projects and I do my scrapbooking. Her living room is large enough for us to both have our craft tables set up. And we get a lot done, (check out my latest discussion lol). I'm lucky enough to have the time to devote to this, and also started selling scrapbook supplies as well as personal scrapbook layouts and albums for other people.

That is awesome that you are able to do this, and that you have someone that you can do your hobby with that. That makes it even more enjoyable. I was thinking of collecting things to go along with my journal and all that is going on with my life-that would kind of be like scrapbooking huh? Perhaps I should look more into it. I think I would enjoy something like that.

I think that it is very important to take a little me time for ourselves. It does not matter whether it is a hobby or craft or music or just reading a good book. We all nee do to relieve the stress and tensions of our days. A hobby time out is something we all deserve and should be encouraged by.

I completely agree with you. I think that I'm going to start writing in my journal again. I haven't wrote in my journal in a long time. So I feel that would be a good place for me to start. I'm also going to start scrapbooking. Just a basic scrapbooking nothing where it is going to get crazy expensive. I know that the scrapbooking business is a billion dollar company. So I will have to look for sales and specials as buying the simplest things and cost a ton of money.

Whether you call it a hobby or crafting I have been doing that since I was a small child. I am now 60 years old and am happily still knitting baby afghans for my daughter who is expecting her third.
I also found once I left my business behind which was basically a hobby started turned into a business of ceramics wholesale and retail, I realized I was getting disabled and had to replace the paint brush aside and lifting of heavy plaster molds to what I called Painted Needles which is cross stitch.
dropping my paintbrush to pick up a needle with floss and cross stitch.I love reading and cooking too so I guess they are kind of hobbies as I am always looking for something new to read or do research on and also recipes that I might want to try.
Guess I will craft til my sight or body gives out LOL

Glad to hear that you are still doing many different things that you enjoy. You have the right attitude. We should continue to do all we can as long as we can. I too enjoy looking up new recipes to make. I'm hoping to start scrapbooking as I think it would be a great way for me to keep memories that we have as a family. I also plan to start writing again in my journal.

Hi, there! It is good that you finally realize that you need to set asid some time for your hobby. Itis is of crucial importance for it may relax yourself from work. What it gives you time to look back at your life and change for the better. And you also mentioned that you spend time to earn a little money, there is nothing wrong with that, but you need to have your free time for your hobby. This is all about time management. Get a good commons of that skill, you will make more money and at the same time enjoy your hobby.
Have a good day!

Yeah I agree with you. Sometimes we get so distracted by all that needs to be done that we forget that we haven't made any time for ourselves. So I'm definitely going to get started on taking part in an activity that I enjoy once for at least two hours a week.

Glad to hear that you do a lot of different hobbies and devote time for yourself. I'm thinking about trying to learn more about watercolor painting. I'm not very good with art but it seems like it would be an interesting and fun hobby. I also like to read. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to start writing in my journal again. As that is something I haven't done in years and it is inexpensive. I would also like to take a lot of pictures and collect different things when we go to different places as a family or do things.

Sure I take time out usually daily. I do spend some time every day working on my crochet and now that it's warmer my flower beds. Though I wanted to further my gardening knowledge and take a master gardener course but no $$$ or child care. Same with getting better at sewing... I can't get anywhere it seems because I of the same reasons with my previous answer no money when you are at home with your kids and no one to watch your kids so how can you take a class. I was hoping to accomplish so much more than what I have.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing things daily that you enjoy. I hope that you will be able to earn the extra income so that you can take some classes. I was just reading this morning about some gardening classes from our local parks and recreation area. Perhaps you can check into that and your local library. There may be free classes that you can attend. When you find one perhaps a family member or friend that you are close to would be willing to watch your kids.

I used to work far too much, and it would mean that I was not able to devote as much time to my hobbies as I would have liked to at all. However, this is all changing, and I now make sure that I take at least Saturday and Sunday completely away from work so that I am able to do the things that I enjoy rather than just the things that I have to do. I like to go out shopping and playing golf, and this is something that I will now choose to do at the weekend when I have the time, as it is important to do things that you enjoy just like it is important to work as well.

I have not been able to devote two hours a week to my favorite hobby which is crafting, but I am hoping to once things settle down. Right now I am making extra money online as well as being a graduate student and taking care of my husband. I make soap, jewelry, paint ornaments, make wreaths, and want to learn how to quilt and do stained glass painting. I also want to learn how to etch on glass. I will have almost two months off from school and am hoping to use most of this time to do some crafting. Randy is in school as well and will be busy with his classes so I am hoping to get some things done while he is studying. I am on here quite a but trying to build my income up.

I too hope that things will settle down for you so that you will be able to enjoy crafting. I think I will have to consider some activities that I enjoy to do that don't cost a lot. I don't really have a hobby other than simple things like reading books. So I will have to think of something that will really get catch my interest and set aside time for it.That is awesome that you are able to make all of those things. Doing something like that would be neat.

I don't think I have a hobby, but
even if I don't have a hobby, I always make sure
that there is a time of the week where I spend
time for myself only and do the things that I love to do.

Glad to hear that you set aside time where you do the things that you love. When I was thinking about this when it was on the radio i felt the same way, that I don't really think that I have a hobby. So I will have to figure out something to do that I really enjoy.

ohh thank you for reminding me that i have some hobbies too.ha ha !!
i do not remember when i have last given time to my hobbies and since i am working and have become busy with my job i have even forgotten what i like to do and what i really craved to do.
Now in my leisure time i really feel i had a body massage and some sort of pampering done to myself.
I hardly feel like taking the initiative and indulge in some of my hobbies.I hardly get 1 day in a week to do all my pending work of the week including my households too.Life has changes and earning money have made me realized that you have to forget about your hobbies and other habits. This is tough but this is true.

I completely understand what you mean. I too started to think: what do i like to do? We get so wrapped up in work, and taking care of everybody else that we rarely have time for ourselves. That's why it's important that we schedule at least two hours a week that we do something for ourselves. We really do need that time and it isn't a lot of time. But at the very minimum we should have that time. I'm glad that you enjoy pampering yourself. When I use to have extra money I would enjoy getting my nails done. It seems though that over time that begins to add up. Keeping up with everything is a challenge. I agree with you. I know that there is always something that needs to be done around the house.
