There is about 8 student on my online course. We have a week online discussion to take part in for grades, and also a few assignments. I logged on as the one discussion is due tonight at midnight. I figured there would be loads. But instead there is 1 student posting and I just joined in now.

That is too bad. I took online classes when I was in college. In some ways, online classes are harder than face to face classes. In an online class, a student has to be more responsible for their own learning and be able to keep up with the workload and expectations of the course. When students choose not to participate in the class, their decision affects the other students in a negative way and has a bad affect on the quality of the class. I hope that the class participation improves.

I agree online courses are harder indeed. I personally perfer online courses and they work with me and my schedule. But a handful fo these students work with each other, but dont even follow the instructions given from the professsor. Its an easy course but it does impact every negatively if not everyone pulls their end.

Procrastination is epidemic in all aspects of life. You will need to do all you can to meet and/or exceed your course requirements so that you will complete your class successfully.

I find many in the course are procrastinators or they are taking the course for work. I think about 6 of 8 are from the same company. Many dont even listen / read the instructions right, and its suppose to be a discussion and they arnt participating.

I agree and Im not letting them stomp on it. If I have to talk to myself then I will. I mean I work 3 jobs and most of there individuals have posted they work 1. If I have to time to participate and warn my course than so can they.

I experienced the same situation when I studied psychology online. There were online discussions and we were supposed to participate in those discussions, but out of the 20 students in my class I was literally the only person who posted in the discussion forum. At least my teacher and I had some interesting discussions We all worked and studied part time, and I think the other students might have been to busy with work and other activities, but I still find it hard to understand why they didn't participate at all. I think it is a waste of money to pay for an online course without participating.

We had online discussions on my English course... it wasn't online course but our tests were online and we had an online coffee house sort of thing where we could all talk. I never got too much into it.. it wasn't for a grade though.

I guess they don't care or maybe they are waiting for someone to post first.

I hate when classmates do that. Randy's class is like that as well and it is annoying. His teacher is a pill because she allows the others to turn things in late, but randy is not permitted to. I remember last week randy was having dizzy spells and could not focus on school for a day because of it and the teacher would not allow him to turn in an assignment late, however one of his classmates went to a concert and was allowed to turn his assignment in late. Randy was upset because he had a legitimate excuse not to do homework and the other classmate did not. I hope the others will show up soon and you can get things done.

Well, some students are just not so serious abut school. Even if it's online and it is easier to participate thee.. they just aren't willing.
