Hi friends & lotters,
Our office introduced 'joint birthday celebrations' from this month and is likely to be celebrated on the last Friday of the month so today we celebrated the same and there were 28 birthday boys (ooops.. i forgot to count the girls ) and of course we were treated with some snack and soft drinks.
It was fun of hardly 30 minutes and a small group started playing with the cake (by throwing/ applying on faces etc)and made a mess and people (some seniors) didn't appreciate their act while others laughed (didn't bother).
No more details from me but would like you to share if you have some such experience/s? have you enjoyed such a birthday celebation?

I am confused viju. 28 birthday boys. Do you mean that they have the same day as birthday? really exceptional and confusing.
have a nice time.

Thanks for making me clear. Here is also a point, which date is picked up to celebrate all birthdays. s/he would be lucky who born on that day and others enjoy the month. lol
Well, life is running not so well. All are holidays as protesting holidays. I mean BANDHAS. continuous four days from wednesday. next 30 and 31 is also called bandha. life is monotonous. no need to go to job, no power supply is not good and more over the weather.

Oh Shibham, that's so sad..
Hope you could charge the battery of your cellphone (when the power is on) and get involved in a long long chat with our Bhabhi (your would be)
Same here too, the weather is just too hot. Why this Bandha? is it due to the petrol hike?

Hi shibham,
OH No dear. Sorry for confusing you. Joint celebration means those staff who are born during this month. Not necesary that all are born on the same day but the same month. Like yesterday we had 3 people, on 15th May there was someone etc etc. No its not exceptional as i have seen many corporates celebrate it on the same day and the cake is served at everyone (staff) desk and their boss/s arrange a gift as well.
Hope i cleared your confusion. So how's life?

28 birthday boys with just one cake I wouldnt even get 28 slices of the cake... I would have happily settled for 28 cakes and my 28 slices would have been safe... and of course, choclate, vanilla, strawberry.... (the different flavors for 28 cakes) and each slice followed up by one ice cream
This office and its employees seem so miserly

Yes, I was a teacher for about 16 years of my working life and I loved the students getting me toffes, cakes, even ice-creams. In 2008-09 after my confinement to the bed, I had this set of 18 students who came to my house to learn from me - and this was the dearest batch of students - maybe it was quite needed or even because they had a belief in me even though I was ill.
5 of them are still in communication with me, though I am sure this communication would end soon once they have finished their studies (they are completing MCA and MBA next year and are at different cities today) and get on with jobs

In my place of work,Birthdays are pretty much off the radar..Management and personnel would take no notice..You might do something with a bunch of friends from work, but that's usually off the premises after hours..
In saying that,I had to work on My birthday one time, and The girls I was working with that evening surprised me with a cake and sang "Happy Birthday",which was nice!

In my office the birthdays are celebrated on that day itself. And it is mostly within the departments except at the Management level where other department heads and their secretaries (which includes me of course) are invited. Some of them do have this cake smashing session which I do not like at all. But otherwise its just cakes and sometimes snacks and soft drinks.

hi,
Glad to see you here.
I think it is better to celebrate on the same day itself but we can have a half day off so usually people take the other half too, means they take leave and enjoy their day. So in a joint celebration, they can actually feel good and it would be a nice occasion to meet other colleagues as everyday it is not practically posible.

hello viju,
That would be so nice and really a great fun to celebrate a birthday.
I haven't tried celebrating it with lot of people.
Last year me and a friend had our joint birthday celebration with few selected friends and it was real fun too.
Well, messing up with the cake is the best part

I am happy to hear that you had such nice time in the birthday celebration
I never celebrate my birthday at office and my colleagues do the same. We can invite each other go to eat in the restaurant only...and in here we don't play with the cake also... I love to eat cake so that i rather eat cake than playing with it....

Well, I've never worked in the office, because in my little experience in the world of work, I have made in the factories, as a laborer.
But do not deny that there were circumstances in which even in those environments, is celebrating something. I remember a birthday with cake and sweets placed on a table, available to my colleagues. Many other celebrations of this type, when we did some senior colleague, went into retirement.
