Dreams ARE real! Well, sort of...

For the past few years I've held the personal philosophy that on some level, dreams are real. Of course they're not real in the sense that they actually happen in reality. But we still experience them and they make up a part of our lives and what makes us who we are. So in that sense, I believe that dreams are real and important to us.
What's your thought on this philosophy of mine? Do you have any personal philosophies or ideas about dreams?

I can agree with you, I have had my dreams influence on what I've done, or the decisions I've made. So if a dream can impact a person to act one way or another, I would have to agree that they are real. They also inspire me to write, so several of my dreams now are 'real' in the versions of short stories. Now, also I do believe at times that dreams can show us other dimensions and such. I won't get too far into all of that, because it would most like just make me sound crazy. lol :)

You'd be surprised what I consider not crazy. lol That's actually an interesting theory, being able to peak into other dimensions through dreams. I also write loads from dreams that I've had. They give me little ideas, big ideas, even help me get over writer's block, and finish school assignments.

lol, that is the absolute best housecleaning motivation story I've ever heard. I haven't read too much about this theory of astral realms. I read a lot on dreams, but I haven't read everything. I've read about astral projection, but that's something different, isn't it?

Good to hear that it doesn't sound too crazy at least to you. It comes from the theory of astral realms or links connecting them, and a few other things have helped me reach my conclusion. Dreams motivate me more than anything else can, even to mundane things. Once when I was still a teenager, I had a dream that Professor Dumbledore from Harry Potter sent me a letter saying I needed to clean my closet, because the Order could not Port Key there like it was in it's current condition. Not that I believed any of that was real, but it hit my subconscious mind hard enough that the next day I did clean my closet to perfection.

Your philosophy shouts positivity in all aspects. For me, dreams are either to be lived or if not, to be written. For the many times that I've actually had dreams and for the many diverse dreams I have when I sleep and when I daydream, I could say that I could actually write some books about them if I only got the talent to do so. but for now, dreams are my short escape from harsh realities and situations that I may encounter everyday. They're important just like you said, because dreams can be a really great source of fuel to our every action to drive us and push us towards our dreams in reality.

Dreams are an incredible source of creative fuel. I was just telling the poster above you that I've had lots of ideas from dreams and dreams have even helped me get through writer's block or come up with ideas for school assignments. It is a great break from reality as well. I personally have been dreaming journaling since I was 12, and I love reading back over my good dreams of the past.

That's awesome. They said that if you have dreams or visions, it's best to write them down so you can have something to be held accountable for. I tried journaling back then but kind of stopped all of a sudden and I can't remember why. Hope you get on to your dreams and live it.

You too, and I hope you pick the dream journaling habit back up again. I thin it's a good one to have if you want to expand your creativity.

I think that it is quite interesting with dreams, because there is nothing that we can dream that we haven't seen at some point. Even people who we don't think we have ever seen, we will have been in contact with them at some point. I always dream about things that have happened during the day, and I think that it is good to be able to dream about things because you're able to think things through in a different way that you're just not able to do while you're awake, so dreaming really is something that you can really enjoy.

I'm not sure that's true, I've dreamed about loads of things I haven't seen at some point. Like dragons, tropical islands, huge apes in the shopping mall, and zombie apocalypses. All sorts of bizarre things happen in dreams that don't necessarily come from things you've experienced firsthand. Though I agree that dreaming is looking at things a different way and something you can really enjoy.

hi dear allyoftherain I think we cope with fears, problems and unresolved situations in our dreams.
Problem for me is that I rarely remember the dreams so I cant get something out of them.

That would be a problem. I really recommend writing down what you do remember of your dreams. I think that it's helped me to recall larger portions of my dreams better. If you want to improve your dream recall that is.

Hi there allyoftherain,
In my head i believe that dreams are a part of our subconscious that we wish to happen yes dreams are a part of our lives and in my head it says that a dream is there for a reason probably a thing to avoid or a thing to pursue not other explanation.

I don't know about dreams having subconscious meaning, I tend to subscribe to the theory that dreams don't have some sort of symbolic meaning and they're the result of random nerve firings in the brain while we sleep. I love dreams, and I think they can help us make decisions by opening up the doors of creativity and memory.

Dreams seem to be more a type of reflection of reality. I awoke this morning to a rather disturbing dream that left me feeling anxious. When I have dreams like that, it does indeed influence my day, ironically often in a positive way. It drives me to try to be more positive, so that on the next night my dreams might be better.

That's an interesting way to deal with an anxiety inducing dream, maybe I can take a hint from that! I have a few anxiety-inducing dreams from time to time, even more lately.

I think it's only the coincidence if dream become truth after morning.

Well, me too. I don't believe dreams have any symbolic, subconscious, or prophetic meaning. They definitely don't come true, though there are certainly a few of mine which I wish would! I just think that since we experience dreams, even if it's only in our minds, they do have some claim of being "real" on some level because they shape a part of who we are and what we go through.
