Help me decide: long articles or short articles?

I've been writing for different revenue sharing sites, and recently, I realized something: Google ranks longer written articles well (longer = more informative, in Google's algorithm I guess), so it is good in terms of SEO. But people don't like reading longer articles, so, your traffic takes a beating if you go for a 2000/2500 word article. What should I do? Write long, more informative articles, or just trim it down to about 1000-word ones?

What I do is I tend to write short articles 500-700 words) for performance pay, and the longer ones for specific contracts that pay for full-rights. You are right that most people don't want to spend time reading long articles as they tend to want their information fast (and not necessarily explained). But the contract articles tend to go to specific websites or magazines, so they tend to know what their readers expect.

I think you should write more shorter articles because as writers, well at least most writers, apart from earning money, our goal is to get recognized for what work we have done. If you are mail writing for the sake of money, then i would suggest ou to write longer articles. However, since like you mentioned, most people prefer to read shorter articles. If you write shorter articles, people will recognize your work as well done and will come back for more. And that will eventually lead you to gaining more page views.

Hi Boyuancy, glad to see that you have finally learned the concept of seo. Once you master this concept, you will earn forever from your articles, even after you quit writing online for a period of time. As to the matter of long or short articles, the best is to know how competitive is your keyword phrase. For very common keyword phrase that everyone knows how to use in writing, you have to write as long as possible. If you are writing about a niche, such as a kind of insect that can cure illness, you can write short articles, and readers will still find it.

I have to say that for me, it seems to be a lot better to have a lot of articles that are more concise and to the point than to have fewer articles that are longer and contain more information. I tend to think that the reason that this is is based on the fact that people are more willing to read articles that are shorter. In addition to that, you are also able to have a larger quantity of quality articles if they are shorter than just having a few long articles.

Hiya boy, Take it easy and write what you can. If you write it out on notepad you can always go back to the article and shorten it or make it longer. This is what I usually do I write something and then go back to it afterwards like a few hours later or maybe the next Day and see if I can better that or what I might have missed out. I find I can write much more easily some days than others and especially if it´s about things I like writing about. I can easily write 2,000 words without thinking about it if I like what I am doing in that moment.xxx

Long articles, short paragraphs. Maybe using headers to state your main points. That is; people do like long-articles, but not articles full of huge globs of thought. Think of it as a 'strawberry-rhubarb' (or YOUR favorite ) pie: you smell that pie, drool when you see it, and want to eat the whole thing; but not in one bite!

Well researched and written articles are better as far as income goes, but I would not overdo it, as one should not be attempting to write a thesis! Make it informative and interesting, but don't exaggerate, as that would be negative too!

Waiving of fees. Do what you like. Because writing is a talent. Some are gifted to write a long article, some are short. I love writing poetry, and I realized it was just making a little money. The important thing is I can be happy.

Do what you're happiest with, because that will produce the best articles. I tend to write between 500 and 1000 words, but I don't write technical articles. If your writing is more technology based, you need more words to explain yourself, and the people who read that sort of article will expect more words anyway.

Why don't you write a couple of articles in the 2000-2500 word range, and see if you can even pare them down to 1000 words. If the articles can easily be pared down, then they probably should have been shorter to begin with. if you have real trouble, or if some of the meaning is lost, then you probably write better in that word range, and so your articles will be better. At the end of the day, quality is still the most important component to writing, and you want your articles to be as high a quality as possible.

well the traffic does not depend directly on the size of the article, but what matters the most is the quality of content. If you write great then more people will follow you and hence more traffic. further the SEO doesn't matter on the no. of words rather it is more of an art to use words which more people will search for and incorporating those words in your article. Finally, on the word limit it essentially depend on the topic. An interesting topic or an anecdote can count to around 2500 words but generally i tend to write under 1000 words. Also, I do not tailor my article to a word limit, as said it depends on the type of content.
