The tear glands are constantly producing tears to cleanse the eyes and to keep them moist, so your sister is right, in a sense. It isn't necessary to cry, of course (which happens when the tear glands over-produce moisture or the tear ducts which drain it away become blocked).

Somehow there is rationale to such. As you cry, it drains away particles outside our eyes and thus cleanses the area. In fact the tears are the natural cleaners when something is stuck in the eyelids. But then of course, you do need to cry to clean d eyes since it has its natural way of cleaning.

I have no idea if that is true.. But i do believe that everyone needs a good cry every once in a while. It is highly possible that it can help wash away the little particles of dirt in our eyes.. since they all go out when we cry.
