I have an online business selling clothes for 2 year and a half. And now, I am planning of opening a boutique. Me and my friend are gonna share the rent of the store. She pays half of the rent coz she is selling beauty products and me selling clothes. My husband agreed with it. Do you think it is a good idea?
But, my concern is, what if I won't make any sales? You see, we are not going to open a boutique in mall coz the rent is way too high. So, we are just gonna open a store where my friend suggested, and I don't know if there will be people who will stop by at the boutique. I think I should think about it first. I want to open a boutique here in my town since it is near my place and my daughter's school and I can still fetch my daughter at school. But, the problem is, I don't think there are a lot of people will buy coz they like to buy at the mall.
Do you think it is a good idea to just give it a shot?

I have gone to business with partners one too many times. Down the road, attitude and opinions vary, and that might be disastrous for a business. I highly suggest you go into business for yourself. So no one will try to contradict your decisions, no one can tell you what to do. Unless your friend is ready to give you all the decisions, but still that does not merit or justify a good partner. If you go into business for yourself in your town, you have to make studies, get actual projections how much you will earn. Is there a demand for the market in your town? If there isn't one. Find out how you might be able to create that demand for them. Find out how you can initiate to create the need for them to buy from you. Otherwise, you will have a better chance in the city. Just don't go renting a place in Ayala or something, their space rent is insane, and you are required a quota. I know of rich spanish families who don't even rent at Ayala because they know the demand isn't really that high. So they opt to rent elsewhere where they can be free to take things on their own time. No pressure.

Thanks for sharing wolveren. My friend and I are only gonna share the rent. She will not be my business partner just a partner for the store.. hehehhe I don't know how to say it.. lol Anyway, I don't like a business partner either..
And about renting in Ayala and Sm, oh God, they are way too high and I think it is crazy. I inquired once you know, and the rent was like 60 to 100k depends on the area of the store, and plus you gotta give the mall 5% each item from your sales.. For me, it is crazy! How can you make profit with that?

Yeah.. I don't overprice my products. I only mark it up for like 60 to 80%. So I only have a small profit on it plus my customers haggle it too much. lol But, I still wanna study more about this and will keep looking for a good location with cheap rent.

Hello chicgale,
Online business is quiet indemand these it just how you manage and make use of your time managing an online business. In contrary, in virtual I can say its better to manage a business by your own if you choose to have a partner it has to be at least learn the management being with another business owner.
Here's a friendly tips for you to consider when planning to have your own business.I've been in business for almost 8 years now and after my late father management I used to manage it on my own.And through God's will and guidance everything is well and still doing great until these days.
Choosing your business location requires quite a bit of research, especially into the area in which you want to open your store.
There are many factors to consider in choosing the location for your business. While cost is obviously a major consideration, you must also think about your various constituencies. Is your location important to...
You--The space has to work for you, or it won't work. Remember, you're the one has to work there every day.
Your customers--It also has to work for your customers, or it won't work. No customers = no business.
Your employees-- This issue may not be as critical at first, especially if you don't have any employees yet. But the ability to attract and keep good employees will be affected by your location.
Hope it helps..God bless!!

Shopping mall or store- none of these is a matter if you have customers to buy your cloths. I would like to request you to make a survey about the target customers. If your locality has that catagorized customers, why they wont come & buy your stuffs?
Since your friend has her beauty products shop jointly with you, her customers can be made your customers too! So, look for the female & kids cloths first.
So...... When we are getting invitation from you??

Location is very important in opening a business. Why don't you make a little study first, like try staying in that area from 8 am to 6 pm and try to count the number of people passing there. I had tried opening a business without considering location, and other friends did too and the shops did not last long. It is important that there is a lot of foot traffic in that area.

Its good idea to open boutiqe. I want to open one, someday. But before you do that, you have to make sure that the clothes and all the fashion thing that u offer in ur boutiqe must be uniqe, good quality, and good price. The lay out of the boutiqe also have to be stunning. Do anything u may afford to give the costumer satisfaction on their 1st shopping. You can promote ur boutiqe to ur daughter's teacher, or other parents u met at school. If you really serious to do it, believe me it will give good money to you.

Opening a business with or without partners are risky if you have no enough capital to sustain for one year. At the beginning all your capital must be all out and do not think of the investment will return that fast you must wait for almost a year if your business is still exist. I already knew it because I already open my own mini store where I lived it was successful and it runs almost fours years. I just decided to closed it because I don't have a helper to assist me and it is hard If I'm the only one who runs the store.
I have a friend also that who is the US we already plan to open a boutique also it is for almost 4 years now but still we can't decide if we push trough, like yours where worried about the location and if people will find our goods are enough than the malls. You must have to study first the client and the environment if it is good in that are you can try it for 6 months if you really want too.

Hi Chicgale, trust your instinct.
Your instinct is telling you that this will not work.
In this case, you have to trust your instinct. You know the area best, you know the customers best.
You will find it hard to get out of the partnership if things go sour.
You may end up quarreling with your friend, and end up enemy for life.

There is always risk when doing business but firstly you must learn to manage the risk to minimize failure. You should consider the below
Factors
1. Is your online business doing good enough to sustain your rent?
2. Have you find your target market?
3. When you choose the location area, remember who is your target market
4. Physical location of shop is essential too
5. Is the partnership trust worthy?
6. Support from your loved one is important too to keep you moving
Just to share my thoughts

yes..sharing rent is a good idea. you can also get the benifits. but if u can get a good business, then only u go for a mall otherwise u will get financial tension. but dont get worry, think positive... how your online business works?

Sun Tzu tactic: the timing and location is right and people are supportive.
If you find that your store will be located at the wrong place where there's no customers' flowing, try to stay on your old style.
Happy earning, God bless.

In business sometimes you do have to take risks and go for it. However you don't ever want to take a blind gamble, you always have to do your homework. But first I would ask how your online business is faring. Are you making a profit? Have you done all that you can to maximize your online business?
It may take a while for you to build up your business at this new location. Do you have enough cash reserves to hold you over and pay the overhead? If for some reason your partner say's it's taking too long to see a profit, I'm out. Are you going to be stuck paying their half of the rent?
You should investigate where your friend wants to open the store. It may or may not be a good location, although I think where ever it is you should at least see good traffic in that area, and have a good feeling about it. You can't rely entirely on your emotions about going for it, but you can take them into account.

i think its a good idea but you must consider other aspects as well..like what you've mention, it must be strategically located so that people will notice it directly..or better yet conduct a study/survey first before giving it a shot so that you'll have an idea as to how it will go if you already have a boutique on the site :)
