I am in need of a new computer. I have an IBM with windows xp. I am considering going mac because they (I am told) are efficient virus free, and simply work. But my friends are counseling against it saying there is nothing a mac can do that a pc can't do. Is that true? Which should I get? I would really appreciate some advice. In the future I will be doing a lot of work with video and special effects editing which I hear macs are good for, but I also enjoy some computer games. Though I would be willing to give them up if I got a mac.

I would never buy a MAC simply because it's much more expensive than a PC and I've heard there is no way to upgrade it. No virus? That's right, but you can also use Linux where there are almost no viruses either and it runs on any PC, even a very old one, performing quite good. I would take a PC...

A Mac computer is more expensive. Put a Mac and Windows computers together side by side with the same specs and you'll notice that the price for a Mac is bloated. Keeping your computer optimized and virus free is up to you, if you are just using the computer for your personal use, I suggest to do some research on keeping it optimized.
What I usually do is I scan once a week, use glary utilities, defrag when there are changes using Ausologics disk defrag and protect my computer using the updated version of Avira and malwarebytes. Ever since I bought my computer, I thank God that there are still no types of major crashes for it and its still fast like the day I first bought it.

This info was really enlightening and helpful, but there is one more thing I would like to know, what are the pros of macs? Why do people buy macs? What things are better about a mac? If all you on mylot could help me out it would really help me make an informed decision.

You can do anything on a Mac computer. You can install Windows and Linux beside having its own official Mac OS, as long as what you need or wants or just try for it out. It is also seamlessly faster, snappy and highly reliable. You don't need system file maintenance to scandisk or defragment just like on Windows, because we don't have those things on Macs. Mac OS is the most advance operating system technology. High quality standards are what we are paying for, beside the cost of trust. And we also contribute because we are truly believe for what technology are developing by Apple that are so amazingly great.
