Many of us probably can't live without consuming sugar. You have your coffee with sugar, your bread, and your favorite food--donut! Some doctors have already asserted that sugar is a toxic that will only eat your skin of its elasticity. Cut back on consuming sugar if you want to look younger. Sugar causes your skin to sag and wrinkle. You probably cannot get rid of sugar-eating habit at all but will soon be able to eschew sugar in the end. What's your take my dear mylotters?

I don't hesitate to consume anything that contains sugar, and the idea that it toxic is just one side of the coin. Did you know that sugar is the ONLY substance that the brain can metabolize for energy? http://www.acnp.org/g4/gn401000064/ch064.html Also sugar is an all-natural substance, and it was brought to North America by Christopher Columbus. In contrast Aspartame, which is a widely used sugar substitute, is synthetic in nature, has only been approved by the FDA since the 70's and in liquid form (such as in diet drinks) it must contain a warning that people with PKA should not consume it. I'll stick to my sugar, in proper amounts of course. Any substance that is over-consumed (including water http://bit.ly/KeDkoZ ) can be toxic.

I also still eat sugar but not much. I love natural sugar that I can get from honey or other fruits. I remember being in the UK. At that time I was give a cup of coffee and he asked how many sugar I'd take for my coffee. I answered: three. He got surprised by my answer. "Three?," he asked me again. Later I found out that British people only take one cube of sugar for a cup of coffee, which to me was still too bitter.

Some folks do like things a bit less sweet, but I personally like 2-3 sugar packets in a regular sized coffee. I use raw sugar and it still has it's amber tone to it. I do not use artificial sweeteners in anything though, I am one that is reading the labels to make sure the product does not have the sugar removed. Something I always wonder about is that these so called experts that get their opinion on the media almost daily; they often have their opinions counterpointed by each other. So Aspartame has only been FDA approved since the 70's and thus we are only beginning the 3rd generation of children whose mothers may have consumed the artificial sweetener, and had it coursing through their veins instead of the sugar of the previous generations. We know that Autism rates are on the rise, and some of this is due to better detection methods, but is it that hard to imagine that since the brain needs sugar to metabolize nutrients, and some of the babies have been exposed to aspartame and not sugar, that some of the increase may be due to the diet change? It will be interesting to see what science says about that in the future. Oh and one other food for thought; aspartame will metabolize to formaldehyde in the body: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9714421 Now it is said that this formaldehyde is "unlikely" to cause harm, and it is "likely" less than natural sources. But we all know medicine is not an exact science, so that kind of fits, but still I'll keep to my sugar.

oh is it that much toxic in it? Or a small amount every intake? Well, I am planning to find a organic sugar that can be found in a plant. i forgot the plant name and I am now researching it again..

Is it Stevia? You can purchase the plant and grow it at home. It tastes ok too, at least the refined Stevia. I have not tried the real McCoy in plant form, but I have thought about getting a plant to grow and to use for a sweetener.

Lots of people spread lots of stories about how terrible sugar is. Some even believe it will kill you. I am not so convinced, but I could be wrong. Certainly sugar is something that needs to be taken in moderation. I have used plenty of artificial sweeteners and I am not so convinced that they are better for your health.

What is bad about sugar is that when taken excessively, it will raise your blood sugar level. If this happens, the skin elasticity is disturbed. As long as consuming sugar does not raise blood sugar, I think it is okay.

Everything that is consumed too much is bad for health. Taking everything in moderation is what we should do. We can't possible avoid sugar but we must take them moderately. I read somewhere that sugar substitutes are actually more harmful to our health and can even cause heart attack. In fact some sugar substitute brands in the US were recalled.

Sugar may have its downside if over-consumed but i believe that if you totally abstained from it, it will also cause you health consequences? Just like any other food, anything taken over excess will also have a negative result and having a variety of food and nutrients or just favor is important. Regardless of what those doctors have said, i will still continue having sugar intake, just don't over consume.

I mean you can still use natural sugar from fruits, or honey. What I mean here is processed sugar may not be good if consumed excessively. Don't you agree?

Too much sugar taken by body can cause high sugar in blood; and too little sugar taken by body can cause low sugar in blood. So we should check our body's sugar condition first and decide to take the amount of sugar. In my opinion, sugar from fruits and vegetables are better that others because they are from the nature, like cane, carrot, banana and so on.

Hello yanz. I totally agree with you that refined sugar is is toxic. It is the reason that Americans are becoming obese before 1890 the average person consumed about 5 pounds of refined sugar per year. In the last 20 years we consume 135 pounds a year or three pounds a week. A lot of the problem is that we consume much of it with out knowing it. It is not just in candies and other desserts. I have seen it in green beans, tomato sauce and tomato paste depending on the brand. Canned corn, peas and mixed vegetables can contain added sugar. Dextrose, glucose, sucrose, fructose or high-fructose corn syrup are some names for sugar. In the list of nutrient you can find that sugar is listed. But it is a sugar that is natural occurring. When we buy and eat a lot of prepared foods that have refined sugar added. Refined sugar is as addictive as heron is. That is one reason ghat food companies add it to their products. Refined sugar interferes with our immune system. It stops vitamin C from entering the white blood cells. Sugar is linked to diabetes, depression or mood swings, heart disease and obesity. It can allow other Disease to take hold because of immune deficiency. I don't really care for much sweet food. I prefer salty foods instead.

Well, sugar is highly toxic to me, because I cannot tolerate it. About 20 years ago I fell ill and my doctor could find nothing wrong, so I went to a nutritionist and diet specialist and he got me to quit sugar. I remember him telling me then, that sugar is one of the biggest health problems of the modern age - long before others had said it. I got some tests and it showed that I as boderline diabetic, but by quitting sugar, I return to good health again after I had been ill for around 2 years without finding what was causing it with my doctor. If you go to www.mercola.com (not a referral link), he has a lot of information and videos about sugar and the damage it has done to the general population. Having experienced the problems myself, I can fully believe that sugar is toxic to human, and the way to know, is if we are addicted to it and cannot go without it. _Derek

Sugar is toxic? You have a link to that? Because as far as I know, sugar is natural and depending on if it is beet or cane sugar, and how much one eats will determine how it effects the body. I mean even water, if one drinks too much, can cause damage to the body. What IS toxic is the artificial sweeteners the FDA say is food; it isn't...

Natural sugar from fruits are not toxic but processed sugar probably is. I do not remember the link now but as soon as I get my hands on, I will PM you. Thank for discussing this.

I think that you have to be careful when you're talking about sugar, because there are different types. The sugar that you can find in fruit for example is all natural, and therefore isn't all that bad for you, but yet it is still sugar. While sugar might not to the best things to your body, providing that you only ever have it in moderation and you don't get carried away and eat everything in sight, there is no reason that you shouldn't be able to eat sugar a few times each week and still be able to keep yourself healthy.

Yes, sugar does a lot of harm than good for our body unless we have low blood pressure where we need sugar intake to boost blood pressure. Other than that, sugar is only good in enhancing taste for food and drinks, it's a short cut for many things. I've learnt to cut down on my sugar intake for the past few years and i'm not eating too much sweet stuffs as well. It's not that i don't want my skin to sag or whatever, it's more for health benefits.

Also if you need a real cause of skin aging, just look up..yes that big glowing orb known as the sun is primarily responsible for aging of the skin: http://1.usa.gov/KVqHfr . Also the low level radiation that reaches the earth from the sun is harmful as well. But you can't really escape the sun, and you do need some exposure to it for certain normal body product synthesis to occur. We are carbon based life forms, C6-H12-O6 is the chemical makeup of simple sugar. Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen; all elements that we need to survive.

Morning sun is good for skin. The skin produces vitamin D which is good to prevent stroke attack. Avoid sun exposure from 10 am to 2 pm. Am I right about it?

The idea with limiting sun exposure, is to try and stay out of the direct rays of the sun. 10am - 2pm may be correct for where you are; I just read one article that in the part of Australia that they conducted the study it was 11am - 3pm. An hour either way can be due to what time of year they conducted the study, and the fact that Australia is in the southern hemisphere, and I am in the northern, so I would say the 10-2 is just about right.

While this is a useful thing to take note of-based on your argument- i wonder if one is panicking unnecessarily. Is the a direct correlationship between the consumption of sugar and the sagging of the skin? I can be more inquisitive, by asking what type of sugars are you speaking about, is it the simple or compound sugars? Hmm, perhaps, you do not need to answer that question, ok? Remember, that as time progresses, there will always be academic studies being commissioned by academics, for academic research on such a topic; perhaps for scientific information as well as for its intrinsic academic accreditation purposes. In addition, while there are arguments in favor of the reduction of the use of sugar, there will also have arguments being made to the contrary. In my opinion, I do not think the problem surrounding being looking younger should be focussed entirely on the consumption of sugars or the lack thereof, but on ones quest to pursue proper lifestype practices which are wholistic in orgin and nature; such as the obtaining of proper eating, resting and exercise habits, getting regular medical checkups, proper use of medication, and so on. Also, there are so many other factors that impact on one physical manefestation of youthfulness- which are more significant than the consumption of sugars. Yanzalong, please, note, I am not discounting the need for us to be more cognisant of how we consume that commodity, but I will support your point if you are 'couching' your argument in order to encourage us to work on the improvement of our overall lifestype practices; which -ultimately- should lead to the preservation of ones overall youthfulness, over time.

I think it is clearly stated what sugar I mean. It is not the natural sugar that causes skin to sag. There are any factors that affect skin to sag and wrinkle--bad lifestyle, pollution, lack of exercise and whatnot. I agree with what you say about it. Thank for responding. Happy mylotting, my friend.

I like cranberry juice but don't choose to buy the version that has sugar in it. Lately the company have made a cranberry juice that is sweetened with grapes. It tastes delicious and is sugar free. I don't like E number and artificial ingredients. I don't put sugar on my food. I eat a vegan diet.

I have completely cut out sugar due to digestive disorders. I use stevia now and have gone gluten free also. I use almond flour now and it really has helped my system. Sugar can cause all sorts of health problems so I am staying away from it. I might indulge on special occasions, like my son's graduation party which is coming up soon, but that will be it.

Yanza, i didn't know that sugar can makes our skin become sagging and wrinkle faster. When i was young, i like to add lots of sugar in every drinks that i drink. I even like to eat a lots of cakes and bread. Since my mother was detected as having diabetics, i had eaten and drinking less sugar. In fact, sometimes i prefer to drink plain tea as well. I had learned as not to consumed too much sugar, since i don't want to get diabetics at such a young age. I want to lead a healthy lifestyle so able to enjoy my life to the fullest. By the way, the price of sugar isn't cheap in my country now. So, the lesser we consume sugar, the more money we are able to save as well.

Hiya yanza, That is interesting that because yesterday I was looking at the amount of sugar there are in those so called natural juices and it stands at least 19 percent of every average glassful that you drink supposed to be. I have just tasted that juice and it taste like there is artifical sweetener in there too which can be just as bad for you so it seems. Not that I am saying that but it is. They should also state in medicines how much sugary things they are putting in there as well. You cannot buy cranberry juice round here without a very high sugar level in it. Really many people are not aware of it I donĀ“t think so every time they think that what they are drinking is really healthy they are doing much more harm to themselves than what they think. Cranberry juice at the moment has at least 23 percent amount of sugar in it per glassful and I know I love Cranberry Juice but not all that what they put in it. xxx
