My nearly five year old cat, Rook, came to us as a five month old rescue from a woman who volunteered with Cat Rescue of Maryland. He was a feral kitten from a feral cat, and Fran took them in because the kittens were all ill. One didn't make it, but Rook and his sister did. They were fixed and had their shots and just needed a home. We needed a cat. We took Rook. Now, Fran owns a few dogs, and these kittens "grew up" among the dogs. When we first got Rook, rather than hissing to show he was upset - he growled! Just like a dog! To this day we call him our "watch dog cat" because he is so aware when someone is about to come up our steps and knock or ring the bell. And when he senses this he stops what ever he is doing, stares at the door, and growls loudly. Sure enough, a moment later we'll hear a knock or the door bell!

What is especially funny with our Rook is that his "markings" make him look like a cow! He is a black and white "tuxedo" cat, but rather than appearing to be in top hat and tails, he has the markings of a cow! So he looks like a cat in a miniature cow outfit growling like a dog....

I have two small Maltese dogs. One is quite normal but the other thinks she's a cat, just like yours. They both grew up with a cat but only the youngest acts like one.
At night, they both sleep with me. The oldest usually sleeps on my pillow. The one who thinks she's a cat will start to walk over me to get on the other side but she doesn't just hop over like most dogs, she steps across me and, before she's fully on the other side, she starts stretching her back legs, one at a time just like a cat does. It takes her forever to walk across me to the other side of the bed.
A long time ago I had a cat who played fetch! I'd crumple up a piece of paper and flick it across the room with my finger. The cat would run after it, pick it up and bring it back to me, dropping it at my feet so I'd do it again. He grew up with three dogs so I guess he thought he was one, too.
Aren't animals funny?

Your dog has got the traits of a cat by remaining in the company of cats. You are lucky to have two in one pet. Dogs and cats are the bests friends ever. So you can have a cat also as a pet.
