self worth crisis

I have been uncertain with my life for the past few weeks already. I pretend to be fine and good to the people around me yet deep inside I know I'm not okay, I'm not good. A year ago, I was so devastated when I wasn't able to graduate in college due to "teacher factor" and got dismayed about it since all my life I was an achiever until that unfortunate event. I try to overcome it by looking for some job to prove that I can succeed even though I wasn't able to finish college. I was hired in a Business Outsource Company as Travel Specialist and was so proud of it yet something deep inside me is still lacking. I want my life to improve by being fully happy but I don't know what is it. I have a good paying job, a supportive family and friends yet something is still missing. Am I so bitter about what had happened and all I do is boast it up to the world that I succeed without a diploma?

I think you should go back to school and deal with the "teacher issue" or at least do what you need to in order to get your diploma. It sounds to me like your life is revolving around that one incident and, until you can get over it or take that class that is holding you back from graduating, you can expect to continue feeling this way.
If it is missing the graduation ceremony that is bothering you, then it is something that you need to deal with in your own mind. If you have earned all the credits you need in order to get that diploma, then the act of graduation is just a formality that you do not need. You HAVE achieved what you set out to achieve.
You do not say whether you got your diploma or not. If not, go back to school and get it. If you did get your diploma but just did not participate in the graduation ceremony, you have to convince yourself that this is an unnecessary "icing on the cake", just a formality that does not determine who you are.
Good luck. I hope you can get this issue straightened out so you can feel good about your life.

I actually didn't get my diploma because since i lack credits and i need to re-take that subject. I honestly want to go back to school, because I agree with what you have said that I have to get over it yet I'm afraid that I'll be under that teacher supervision again. Actually its enrollment time here in our country and I think it maybe a factor why I feel this way since I see busy students working on their enrollment in our apartment i lived. I have to decide pretty soon whether to enroll or not. Anyway, thank you very much mentalward! :)

If it were me, I would try to find out if I could get into the course without that teacher. If that is the only class of it's kind with the same teacher, could you consider transferring your credits to another college and completing that one class somewhere else? It would be a real shame (and a crime, I would think) to allow one teacher to prevent you from getting your diploma.
Isn't there something legal you can do about this? No teacher is legally allowed to influence any student's grades based on personality clashes. If there is an issue, it should be addressed to the head of the department or head of the school. If it came down to it, and I was in your shoes, I'd take the class over again but make sure I had an audio tape recorder or using my cell phone to record any questionable interactions with this teacher.
If you do nothing, I have no doubt that this teacher will use her influence to intimidate other students in the future. I sure hope you are able to get this resolved so you don't have to worry about it anymore.

thank you mentalward and buxtime..I actually went to other schools and have them evaluated my transcript of records but then if I have to finish it with other university it will took me 2 semester because we don't have the same curriculum. But I think it is more safe to re-enroll it to other university, new environment for a new start. Also, I already did raise up the issue with our school Dean of Student Affairs before I left the school. I will be going to talk with the Dean this Thursday. I hope this settles everything then. THANK YOU FOR HEARING ME OUT :)

Hello mswhona14, do not be too hard on your self. All of us have to go through some trials and challenges in life. Just be strong and try to focus your self in sorting your life one step at a time. Try to finish your study because that is important. Yes you can succeed with what you are doing right now, but at the end of the day, education is one thing that can never be taken away from us. Good luck!

Hi mswhona.
I am sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with your life. I guess you could try to be be happy that given th current economy, you have a good job that provides for you.
But I know that living an unhappy life is no good. Life is to short to be unhappy. Can you try to go to another school and finish your degree? Thats what I would look into and that should give you a better sense of accompishment. You do seem depressed to me. All the things that you have shared seem to be what people feel when they are depressed. So talking with a therapist of doing some soul serching might help with that also.

The first thing that you need to try and remember is that you don't have to get the same qualifications that other people get to be able to be a success in your life. You say that you have a good job and you love your family, well this is more than a lot of people have managed to do, and I think that you should be very proud of yourself for being able to do this. Just start enjoying your life and appreciating the things that you have managed to achieve, as you could waste your entire life wishing that you had done more than you'd actually managed.

I understand how frustrating it is to pour your heart and soul into something and get it all taken from you by an unforeseen event. I too did not graduate college because of a miss filed paper work, that made my financial aid "fraudulent" and I lost the ability to keep going to school (I had 4 credit hours left) and they took all the credits I had. Even though I proved it wasn't my fault they still haven't given me back my credits, and I only have to pay back a 'percentage' of the financial aid.
You sound like you have done wonderful for yourself! Maybe you need to actually talk to some one you trust and tell them everything. Sometimes just talking to someone that you know really cares for you will fill that gap.
I wish you the best of luck, and do hope you feel much better!!
