Why Not a Master-Cookie (Where You Log-In Once & You're Signed into Everything)?

There should be a site that--when you sign in--it refreshes-or-reloads-or-installs a cookie that--when you visit any of the sites you visit daily (Facebook, Blogger/BlogSpot, YouTube, here, Hi5, etc.) and it scans your cookies to see if you've already signed-in (so you don't have to sign-in more-than-once)--you're logged-in to all those sites and don't have to waste the precious seconds signing-into each. Is there such a site? If so, why haven't I heard of it? If not, why not?

Uhm, in a simple word, as far as I know, cookies are given by each respective sites, and it's more likely different all the time. And then they may drop the given cookies regularly (for a good sake) so members will need to re-log in again. So it's technically impossible for third-party sites to store the cookies for keep an account being logged in..

Maybe we could invent a super-cookie, one that carries all the information of all the cookies and that refreshes to the browsing-program every time you boot-up your computer, one which all the sites then READ AS the same cookie that they would install! How do the sites install- & scan for-cookies?

Not really a good idea, imagine if someone stole that "super-cookie". And technically can't be implemented, since every sites need to communicate one special cookie for every unique person. How could that possible to be implemented? That's only one reason, there would be a lot other technical problems.. About "install and scan cookies", In a very simple word, a site will send an unique string to browser, browser will save it, and then everytime we access that site through that browser, they will recognize us because of that cookie. If you want to go to detail, you may read wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie Anyway, remember that this is always happened: more secure = less convenient less secure = more convenient

hiya mythociate a Master Cookie? ooooh....that would be so very dangerous to have. especially one that would carry so much personal information about you & your activities within so many different websites. from a personal security point of view, this would not be recommended at all. the negative possibilities kind of out weigh the benefits for now. maybe at some point in the not-so-distant future, computer & internet security would evolve into something way secure than what we have available right now, and maybe this might be feasible. but a lot more thought must go into it before it comes to light.. in addition...just imagine what would happen to you if the Cookie Monster came after you Super Cookie..

You mean cookie-files carry information OTHER THAN 'usernames & passwords'? Maybe someone could write a Super SubCookie, one that was a part of each of the regular cookie-files, but only had that little bit of information. Maybe I should 'Search the Web' (text-box on every myLot page) to find out more about "cookie-files"
