Deaths at the Rally

Cavan Stages Rally in Ireland, held in Bailieborough this year, has suffered (so far) two tragic spectator deaths. Reports are that the car, and Escort, went over a hump in the road, lost control and flew into a bunch of spectators at a fence. The car's a wreck, 7 including the vehicle occupants are in hospital and a photographer and his wife are dead. Hopefully the other 7 will make a full recovery and there will be no more fatalities. A very sad day for a small town and such a big event. Myself, I didn't attend the rally as I am not a fan of being a spectator at a sport where you yourself are in danger. My thoughts are with the families of the killed and injured.

This is so sad for everyone involved, directly or indirectly. I don't think that people realize how dangerous this sort of spectator sport can be.

It is indeed PageTurner and I don't think that they do. It's a sport that I don't intend to ever attend, though I did watch a stage of a rally once as a young child when it was going past our home place. Fair enough, there are safe places to stand, but for me the fear factor weighs in heavy here.
