Tthat Really Upset Me...

May 27, 2012 9:16pm CST
This morning,on the way to the oral class i encountered our teacher. There was still a certain distance to the classroom, and we walked together. Well, what was not good is that there was no talk between us which was supposed to be.That really was an embarrassing moment. I wanted to say something, but i just couldn't. It upset me ,i should have been more talkative:(

I've experienced that before, I'm usually a shy type person. I'm not that good at talking to other people before so what I did is study how to be witty. I've learned that to open a topic, you must first see what you have in common, since in your case is the school. You would've asked about the subjects. If you find you got nothing in common, then try what other people's interest. The looks can can give you a clue about it even if it was your first meeting. Don't just open about yourself, people don't care about your life, they are more interested about their own life. In short, people love to talk about themselves. (^^,)

I do know people love to talk about themseles, and i actually thought about doing that, but i was afraid that would mean rude if he doesn't like to talk about his personal life. anyway, it was really a dilemma.

Ya, it is easy to talk if you are closed to your teacher. In my case..i scare my advisor...then i could not open my mouth to talk with him much...

I've been in this situation, the awkward silence. It happened in school, it happened outside of school, it happened with a teacher, a classmate, someone I know. So nothing to worry, you're not alone. You're not the only one who's not talkative. Hehe! =D Up until now I'm having that problem of not easily being able to start a conversation, or not easily getting comfortable with people and strike up a conversation. Which is why I'm trying to go out and expose myself more. =)

HA, I should do what you are doing now--exposing myself now, and i should i can overcome the hatred of exposing myself to the strangers.

Ah, the awkward silence. It happens to us all. It's not always a bad thing, though. In fact, the ability to be silent when with another can be viewed as a positive thing -- perhaps your professor had a lot on their mind, and at the very least, perhaps they were comfortable enough with you to not feel the need to fill the air with idle chatter. Furthermore, the teacher may think of you as a very confident person since you did not fill the space with chatter as well.

Ha, i do hope my teacher felt that way, i like myself looking confident and cool.

Hi Angella,I can understand your feeling as I exprienced similar thing a few days ago.I encountered my boss in the lift.In fact, only we two in the lift.I say "morning" to him, then silence, silence,,Oh yes,it was an embarrassing circumstance then I tried to break the silence,I asked him a qustion:Ivy,will be out of office today? He said yes. What a stupid question I had asked!!haha,Ivy is his wife, they work on time everyday,so..you can uederstand.

Yeah yeah, i can totally understand that, it is always not comfortable for us to walk alone with our teacher or boss.

Hello,my friend.it is very normal when you go with your teacher on the road to the classroom with little subject to discussing with each other.and your teacher may be reviewing what he/she will say in the classroon at that moment. Also may your teacher be in a uncomfortable condition at this time.So do not impose it on your shoulder easily. So many excuses could be a rational explanation for this unnatural encoumter by accident.

Thankyou, i will try to be easier on myself :)

Man, liek the first poster said.. "AWKWARD SILENCE". I gotta agree that it does happen to us all.. If i was in your place I should've just said an excuse that I'll go ahead or something rather than walking with your professor side-by-side talking about nothing. Just don't ever mention it again to her/him hahah And it's so ironic that it's "Oral class" wherein fact both you didn't even have any "Oral communication" between the two of you. And oh.. Angela11. Welcome to my lot

Well, about the oral class part, i gotta admit that it is really ironic, and i also want to state that it is actually what my most classmates do ,especially after class.

Well, i am quite like that with teachers too. I usually just walk behind them since i am not used to talking to them unless i really have too, and especially when we are not in the classroom. i find it hard to open up to teachers..

You didn't have to say anything. Some teachers actually like to prepare their mind before class to help them sort out what they are going to do for the day. In order to get a good grade you are not required to say 'hello' outside of class. Though in the future, maybe a nice head nod, and then stopping to tie your shoe or walking faster on to the class might be a good way to avoid the situation.

Maybe next time i should take your advice, thankyou :)
