You had better arrest me... I am eating Hemp!

A healthy, nutritious food such as Hemp is not allowed to be legally eaten in Australia, meanwhile smoking tobacco, eating toxic chemicals in junk foods and drinking alcohol is legal. This makes absolutely no common sense whatsoever!
Hemp seeds are high in protein, containing all essential amino acids and are more easily digestible than soy. They are the perfect balance of Omega 3, 6 and 9. Most other popular nuts and seeds have too much Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3's. They are also safer than eating fish for your Omega 3's as there is no chance of heavy metal poisoning, plus hemp is more sustainable than eating fish.
I was recently on the phone to a customer and we were talking about some of the stupid laws that the government here is enforcing to try and snuff out natural health when she told me a little story. She said that she had some hemp seeds in the fridge at work along with the rest of her and other employees foods. She was told by her superiors to get the hemp off the premises or they would call the police!
I asked her what line of work she was in and she told me that she was a nurse. Typical! Another case of mainstream medically trained people being totally out of touch with what it takes to keep people healthy.
So, currently the situation here in Australia is that it can be grown here, you can buy it, but you are not allowed to eat it! If you want to eat your hemp, you will need to leave the country and consume it elsewhere as long as it is not New Zealand which falls into the same silly ruling. You can however feed it to your pets! This is in contrast to the USA where it cannot be grown, but you can eat it! I am sure that if it were legal to grow it, then an industry would spring up very fast there, creating many jobs in a very shaky economy.
This law is up for review here in Australia next month in June 2012. You can find out more about the history of this legislation here: http://www.hempfoods.com.au/legislation/
Hemp is one of the most sustainable and useful crops we can grow. You can find out more about hemp and it's many uses here: http://www.squidoo.com/sustainable-hemp
So, where do you stand on the whole hemp debate? Are you for it or against it?

Canada also benefit from this industry as growers as the United States does not allow the plant to be grown. So they import it all form Canada apparently.

I live in America and I am happy that we are allowed to eat hemp seeds. Not sure what else. I just know I am not against eating it, like you said full of protein and Omega's. So for any country to out law eating it is ridiculous. I am just against smoking it. Cause that is not what it was created for from God. We're supposed to eat the herbs.

Well, I don't know about the god thing either, but if you want to replace god with nature then I am with you. We are not really made to smoke, we do not need to do it to survive, but we do have to eat to live and eating more nutritious foods creates a better lifestyle.
If someone does want to get high, then good on them, go and eat the stuff I say. But the hemp seeds I am talking about are different to the cannabis that people smoke. You could smoke or eat industrial hemp all day long and not get high.

If it was available, I would probably eat it. What are the seeds like? How can they be distinguished from sesame, flax or chia. I love adding a variety of seeds to my diet. I have not read about it yet, but I will be sure to, so that I am informed. I like eating my "medicine", or eating to my health.

The seeds are a lot softer than sesame, flax and chia. They have an oily type of consistency to them, not that they are oily, but they are not as dry as some other seeds. They can go rancid if not refrigerated and kept in sealed containers too. I am not sure where you would buy them over there, but lots of online stores have them.
Eating medicine is the way to go! Let my food be my medicine and my medicine be my food!

I agree wholeheartedly with your last statement, Bill!
GG, I got mine online from nuts(dot)com (can never be too careful about posting things like that). They ship extremely fast. Mine actually shipped the same day. They even threw in a few "extras" like dried strawberries and something else I can't remember now. I bought a few different kinds of seeds from them and can honestly say I like the hemp seeds the best (not to mention they are the most nutritious).

That is absolutely crazy. The government is trying to prevent people from good health. I have been reading about the benefits of hemp, but of course even though it is legal in America, most grocery stores do not carry the product. One must order from the internet or go into a high priced specialty store.
It is things like this that makes me want to run for office. There are so many things wrong with the government, it would take an army to fix them all.

I know how you feel. It is so frustrating to think of the control that the governments and big pharma companies have over the populations of the world.
I was recently in the USA and you guys have a great range of health products in your stores compared to what we have here in Australia. Well California did anyway, but I am told that the whole country is not like that! But anyway, yes, seeing as the hemp has to be imported into the USA, it gets treated before it comes in which reduces the nutritional value of it. And I guess that would pump up the price of it as well, making it not as profitable and common as other seeds which are locally grown.

As long it doesn't have a side effect on massive consuming of these food. Well I'm not against it since it is healthy and has nutritional value. There are some people don't know what's good or what's not. LOL.

The hemp that is grown for eating and other uses such as clothing and house bricks is known as industrial hemp and is different to the cannabis that is grown for smoking. It has very little of no THC content so it has no adverse side effects.
