Phone or Laptop? Which one to buy?

I’ve been using my mobile phone for 2 years. It’s been working well and the battery can be used for 2 days. But just last month after subscribing to Blackberry service and downloaded an app, not to mention the phone jumping out of my hands one time, realizing everything is scattered around the floor already.
Since then, I am having a problem coz it drains so easily and the phone have been overheating. There were days I need to recharge the battery twice in a day! I’ve claimed (in my first few post on mylot) that I can live without mobile phones. But being away from my family made this phone important, although there is already an Internet to connect with them.
I’ve been planning to buy a new laptop if I get to earn money to buy one – but if this phone retires… I think I’ll need to prioritize a new phone… or wait til both (laptop and mobile phone) are dead?

hi,
Sorry to hear about the issues. If money is the problem then you should go for a mobile with all funtions/ net etc.
I feel you can't carry a laptop everywhere and we, as of date, consider mobile phones as a must. Meanwhile you can save some amount for buying a laptop and get it at a later date. I really don't prefer a second hand laptop as well.
In India we get a variety to choose from when it comes to a mobile phone with internet options.

That is possible! Because this laptop that I've been using for 4 years came with a free mobile phone - although the mobile is the oldest Motorola type that looks like an A/C remote control But at least I am using that phone too for my roaming sim card What's good with this laptop that I have with me is that aside from the mobile phone, more freebies came with it too. Like accessories and printer.
But this time, with or without those freebies I am really planning to buy. But that's only if I get to earn money for it =) Might take some time but hope my mobile phone last a long time so I won;t need to think about the expenses for both.

I have thought about that but before the phone acted strange suddenly, I was really fixed on earning some money to buy a new laptop since my laptop have been having some strange sound coming from the CPU fan. It is still working but am worried that it will retire anytime too. Laptop is also important to me as I am earning a very little amount on my online stuff too.

Hey,I have been through this dilemma.I will tell you to buy a laptop and use it for browsing purposes and to see films and other such uses.Because if you use a mobile phone for all that, your battery will drain faster and you can not make a call which is the basic necessity of a mobile phone. If your present mobile phone has retired, buy a basic model which will hold its battery for 3 days or so to make your call and a laptop for other purposes

Hi narnia,
Thankfully, both is still working. Although the laptop still has some strange sounds most of the time and the phone sometimes hangs up... the draining thing for battery takes time now. Unlike those times when I wrote this, that it is draining really quickly that I need to charge it twice to thrice a day. But now once a day is enough. And since I am most of the time listening to music on my phone, it drains in the evening.

Whoah, indeed that is a dilemma. However, if you're always online then why not go for the laptop instead? Perhaps if you don't use it often for going online, it wouldn't drain quicker.
If I were you I would just buy a laptop and a low-end phone.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I think you can buy both.Try to look for phone and laptop that is equivalent to your budget in buying a new laptop. But if not, phone will be more prioritize so that you will have constant communication with your family.

UHmmm yeah laydee, I've been using the phone too for online purposes. Whenever out of the house, I am online daily on fb and ym. And the apps that Ive downloaded recently may have contributed to it draining quickly.

Well, you have to decide, wich one of the two apliances is more needed, and wich one, will end its useful life first, maybe you can take the phone to the technitian, maybe the problem is nothing so bad, and think in the laptop instead. It is hard, nowadays, to live without a mobile phone, we like to think otherwise, but, in the end, the ease and convenience offered by the phone imposed itself.

I guess you are in those times when all things come at once, :), maybe you need to think wich one is more important for work, unfortunately, there is not always enough money to get all we want.

This usually happens to me =( There was a time before that all 3 of my wrist watches didn't work it got no battery. And then my SE phone also won't open. Good thing was that I have an old model Motorola fone which I am still using today as my second phone.
The phone is still working, while the Blackberry one have got some problem and the laptop. I guess old model phones are better than new phones since smartphones must come with big memories as we keep loading files and photos on it.

Hi albto,
I guess you're right, maybe the mobile phone problem isn't that bad. And since the laptop's annoying sound came up about a year ago, I guess. Then the laptop needs to be replaced first. Hmmm, need to think hard before I save up money for it.

I think you can live with either one of them.. since you can use either one of them to connect with your family.. But the phone is more portable.. so i think you should buy that first.. and be more careful, buy more durable one, a Nokia perhaps.

HI sis!!
Since you still can use both, for the time being you can still hold and keep the money first. When you are no longer can use the phone you may get the new one first before the laptop as there is nothing wrong with the laptop right? So I think you don't have to thin about purchasing the new laptop.(^^)

Then you just need to keep the money and prepare it in case if anything happen to one or both of them. Like what my mom always say, when you are using something make sure you use it till it last breath~ What a tough life the things I have must go through~(^^)

Hi sis,
You are also right. The laptop is still working quite fine. Although its CPU fan has been always giving out ann annoying sound. I've wrote about it in one of my discussion before. I am worried that it suddenly stop working so I am really using it with care. The mobile phone seems working well since yesterday. Will have to see how long both will be okay.

If you just want an ordinary cellphone, it will not cost so much. You can buy a simple cellphone and a laptop together. But if you want to buy a smartphone, it may be a little expensive. But since the cellphone is still very important. I think probably you shall buy it at first and then buy a laptop later.

Hi youless,
That's true I can opt tobuy a simple phone, just so I still can be called by colleagues for important matters. My laptop has served me for 4 years or more and if it retires then its fine, just not now that I still don't have all the money to buy a new one.

It depends on where you will going to use. If you need to work on office applications which requires typing to many documents then a laptop is what you need. But if you just need to browse the internet and play with apps and browse social networking sites then you might as well get the phone instead.

Up to now I haven't bought a new one. I'm spending my money for some important things. There were times both gadgets are running really well. But there were also times it is not. Well I am still undecided which ones to prioritize. Some says to have my laptop repaired first. Well I might do that one day.

I would go with a laptop. I am not one to get a cell phone, like driod,I-Phone and etc. To me getting a laptop would be much better idea. I don't use my cell alot as it is. I would use a laptop all the itme. I also am still getting used to all the techology some cell phones are capable of doing! I rather stick with a laptop if I had the chose.

Yes, some people including me last year doesn't really need cellphone that much. Because I am staying with my family. But since the time I've moved far from them for work... it becomes a necessity again. Hence, both cell and laptop are important for me. The phone keeps me online to chat with them even when I'm out in the road and I instantly received their messages even when I just woke up or sleeping already -- since me and family have different timezone now we couldn't chat with each other on laptop. Laptop is great to have too, because we can earn from being here or other sites on our past time

Hi godmom
Well, there is nothing to prioritize and you can and should go for both. Wait. First tell me this - what is the use of a blackberry or even an iPhone? Primary - to make calls. You can also make calls even from the lowest standard handsets - like the nokia or even samsung - which only provide for calls and messaging. I fail to understand why we need to opt for smart phones when we primarily use the phones to make calls.
Mine is an LG model and it was only 1300.00 INR (today around 25USD) and I have been using it since the past 4 years and it is still going great.
The laptop will definitely help you in increasing your income and I am sure with that new increased income you would be able to buy a new better handset soon (okay may be a blackberry or even an iPhone).
The only issue with this suggestion is - your mentality and the awareness to what your peers are using... I do understand that once you get accustomed to using those high end phones, they not only become a kind of a personal statement but also make the use of simple phones seem odd.But then, the solutions are easier, made difficult only by our own preferences.

The FB, YM, Skype and all other IMs are on Laptop too... So all you need to do is a little of becoming the "Manager" kind of person for a while until you have both...
Fix up the appointments and go on chatting, sharing from the lappy at fixed times

I don't use FB and Skype whenever at work. Just YM. The best is to really fix the sked to chat or talk with them.
And I'm glad to know you have saved enough money for a new lappy for wifey!

Hi godson
Actually, my phone has many uses for me now. I am communicating more with my family and friend through it via using BBM, YM and Facebook. My parents don't use and never use despite me telling them to use YM. And at work I am only using YM and not Facebook since I don;t want to abuse the company for even using Facebook when I was already allowed to use YM.
So being connected online on Facebook is important as it is where my parents sends me messages or chats with me regularly. I do make calls but it is very rare since we there is an Internet where we don't need to spend too much. They will be sleeping too if I would go home first to chat with them since the timezone is different there and here. About what my peers are using nope godson most of my friends don't have a high-end phone. I don't know also about what others are using.
Both are important - but still my priority is a new laptop. Because you are right, this is where I earn a small amount at least. And if me and parents would set a time for us to chat, we can do that like what we did last Saturday!

Think of something that you need most. Think which one is really what you need. If your phone seems to be stressing you out all the time, I think you can go for it first and then buy the laptop afterwards. I too would love to have a new phone that I can use but since mine still works perfectly fine, I'm contented with it for the meantime. You see, our phones nowadays are such a huge necessity that we can't seem to miss any phone call or message from anyone especially from our family. Since you said that you live away from home, keeping in touch is also important. But, if you think you can still handle the situation that your phone brings you into, with all the stress and having to charge it twice a day, then maybe you can wait a little bit longer. Here's one thing I would like to share with you, and that is if there is any thing that you seem to tolerate everyday, and sometimes gets you pissed off, then you have to get rid of it since you are in a way spending some energy tolerating and stressing about it.

Hi penrockerchic,
You have a good point What I really need is to think about which is a necessity for me. Right now, I will be observing which ones to replace while I am saving up money for a new phone or laptop. Both are still useful although bothers me most of the time. This is where the confusion of which to prioritize came. But then again, as you mentioned I think I need to wait a bit longer before deciding. Thanks

Hopefully it will take years before I make an update. So that would mean, both suddenly works fine and I won't need to spend for a new phone or laptop

The technology has developed a lot. The intentions had created a huge computer into a small. This signifies the improvement and importance of technology in our life.
In kerala the price of a good laptop about 40 thousand,i mean a good one. I think it is a little huge amount. When we compare the cost and benifits of a tab. Now we have a lot of android phones in our market with lots of android applications. Those application brings you anything you need. There are several application with lots of fun and all the thing you need also there phones provides you a good storage capacity and a good capturing facility. A computer cannot bring this all with an huge amount but a simple tab can do it.
More over the new generation has a good eye on such phones and all of them are trying to get. Like wise you should also be in the new trend. I an sure that such phones will gives you a lot of fun and all you need.

Think about how often do you need a gadget before buying one. This is the basic rule when buying appliances as well as gadgets. If you have a certain apps that you need to have everyday; then assets it if you need need to use it everyday out of necessity or out of the time-killing.
Oh, and don't forget to check gadget reviews in YouTube. It also helps to determine if an item is worth buying for. It is now getting popular recently. It's like getting a sneak peak at the program, gadget or phone before buying it.

Hello enelym001! I think to resolve the issue, you can opt for an iPad with the phone features or the Samsung Galaxy Tab with phone features. Both functions of phone and laptop (at least the basic) is already integrated in one.=) Plus you don't have to bring 2 gadgets at one time because you are already carrying just one tool.;)

It depends what you need each for. If your phone is primarily to communicate with family, I would go for the new computer and wait on the phone. However, if you are like me, you have to have a phone in case you get called into work. If you need the phone to be available to work then the phone becomes more important. Perhaps you could, buy a new computer and buy a cheap phone. Down grade to a cheaper phone for now, that way you at least have a working phone and can buy the one you want when you have saved enough.
