Have you ever been in a situation wherein you stayed in a job you did not like only for the salary? I mean, you probably hated your job or maybe did not even like the people you worked with. And yet, you decided to stay because of the salary you were getting from the job.
I know of many people who are like that. They just stay for the monthly salary and other perks from their place of work. I have a former student who works in a call center. He is receiving an amount more than what I receive from the university I am in at the moment. However, when he talks about his job, his company, and his workmates, he practically talks trash! He dislikes his work, he hates his co-workers who according to him are insecure and rumor mongers, and he curses the people he encounters over the phone to death. So whenever we tell him to just leave his job since he hates almost everything about it, he would tell us that he can't leave his job because he might not be able to find another job that would pay him that much.
Are you in the same situation? Have you ever thought that leaving your job is impractical no matter how much you dislike it just because of a very handsome compensation package?

That is tough question for me. I am a working mom who wish to be a stay at home but unfortunately that does not possible at this moment. Because we are paying our house monthly amortization, which is a bit huge. I need to help my husband with the financial needs of our family. However, choosing to stay with my work now does not mean I am just staying because of the salary because I love my work and I love my co-workers. It is pretty much different with just staying for the salary.

Lucky are those who can be in a job they love, work with people they like, and receive a great compensation package..

I did and after five years I resigned and right now its been five years since I have a job. Funny thing about this is that its better to have a job even we don't like our job than to have no job at all.
At least even if you are not happy with your job you have money every pay day.

I responded to another discussion on something like this. I am a contract worker and there is one account that I really don't like doing because I feel as if they don't appreciate what I do. I keep thinking that I would quit if I could find another client that would pay me as much. It's not a whole lot, but it sure helps. I'm not brave enough to quit without having something else in its place, though.

I do agree. Don't leave your job even if you don't like your job. Unless you found another better job. That's my mistake and I regret it for five years now. I don't have a job for five years now since I resigned from my last job.

It's a risk to take leaving a job without finding a new one that you can transfer to..

I also worked part-time at a call center when I was studying and I stayed at that job only because of the salary I was getting. It was only temporary though as I wanted some income while studying and then I found a job I liked after completing my graduation. I think a lot of people work at a place they don't like jut because of the salary but I think it is important to try and look for other jobs that you would like to work at and when you can secure another job you like, you can leave your old unwanted job....

More often than not, our reason for staying in a high-paying job even if we do not like the job or the environment is our family. Or, something that we need to work hard for like health concerns and other basic needs. That's noble. Especially now, that looking for a job is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

One coach has said that having J.O.B is a trap but most of us are in this for many reasons. I was studying and observing many workers on the job and myself as one. It is true that working on a JOB can be a trap. As you relate that worker in a call center, it reminds me of the routine "rat race". That routine continues on day in and day out during the week, the following week, and the coming week. Yet, many of us endure these scenario because we can't see or we don't like to open our eyes to other means, than those handed down to us by our parents. I am not planning to be on a job until I reach my retirement age. I want to do something different and avoid those situation where it comes to a point of hatred against the JOB... we are responsible or accountable to where we are and what we become.

Mixed emotions about this one. In this country you have to make sacrifices for a lot of reasons. One in particular is our poverty level. Even the middle class today are having a hard time compared to the past 20 years. So I would say because probably his family needs the money to thrive in this insane country. Yes his motivation justifies his sacrifice. His rantings are just a way to let it all out. Pretty normal to me. He's young, he will outlive that call center syndrome soon enough.

I've been in this situation. Most of my colleagues are getting insecure about me. Which is really normal in every industry. I really need to stay here for the reason that I need the salary to pay my house. What I did is to ignore them and and show them that I am not of what they are thinking. On the other hand, there are still some that knows me and stays as my friend.
I am just considering the salary I am getting from this job. Once I finished paying the house, I might look fo another job.

I know some people who does that. Just to be practical, they usually go for those jobs which does have higher pay even though they really don't like the job and the people they work together with. I mean, yeah there are lots of people who are like that. SOmetimes it is the money we aim for and we have to save for future needs to have better job as well..

hi dolce_vita thats what I am doing. I am the main provider here cause hubby is disabled and wont bring home that much money. So I kept my job when we got married of course but I hate it. We need it to survive but my colleagues in the department are nasty most of the time, at least 2 our of 3 of them are nuisances and I just endure them for this 30 hour a week job cause there is no real choice.
In fact I am crossing out every month I have survuves now as I plan to only work about 9,5 yeare more till I am 60......

Looks like everything is the same in this world. Its happened to me too. I was working in call center. The salary, overtime, incentive, bonus, rewards all is available and tip top. But i have to work night shift and normal day shift. Besides i get stress a lot due to pressure from customer.
Some customer treat us like we are not human, they yell and talk bad words to us. I just able to be patience working there for 3 years and i quit. Even the salary is high and i get all the benefits.
Friends some are good and some are jealous with my performance and successful. They can tell bad and create rumors about me to some manager and unlucky the manager is listening to them due to they use to treat food, money, party with the manager.
After i resigned, i regret cos i can't get salary and benefit higher that my former company. but when i think about the previous salary, its nightmare plus rich.
My conclusion is better to be happy, calm, love your job, love your environment, even the salary or income is less. please take care of your heart, believe me money is everything in this life, but not untill you have to face all kind of stress and unhappiness, and at the end you have to spend more money for treatment
