My son was born via c-section. Since his birth, I've had tremendous trouble doing much to lose the weight in the abdominal area. Anyone have any suggestions to help firm up my abs and/or strengthen my core?

Hiya wiccania, Me too I had a lot of trouble with not so much the weight but firming up again as the scar was done by emergency section and it was not a horizontal cut it was a vertical one. So it leaves you that you will never want to wear a bikini again. I put weight on there a bit and lose it again but I have to work at it all the time about firming up. These past 7 months have been hard for me to keep up with the exercises continually so I have a bit of the problem back again. But I have read some great suggestions here I will try a few of those at least trying is better than me waiting for somebody to wave a magic wand and for the problem to vanish into thin air although I wish it would. Good luck with yours though and everyone else just keep going and donĀ“t lose sight of your goal.xxx

I know how you feel. I have had 3 c-sections. After my first one I didn't lose alot of weight but with my 2nd. I only gained 13lbs and the baby was 9lbs, and for some reason after her I dropped weight super quick. I lost like 25lbs in one month. I felt great. After my 3rd I am still struggling to lose weight. I was once going to the gym, and taking a pilates class. There are some crazy good exercises in pilates. I highly recommend them. Not only will it help with your ab muscles but also your entire body. Also alot of people think that you can turn fat into muscle and thats not really the truth. You have to lose the fat in then build the muscle. So if you do some cardio along with muscle building exercises you are better off. Zumba is a great cardio exercise, and so is spinning or just riding a bike. We recently bought bikes and since we have 3 kids we bought a trailer that holds 2 kids and we bought a seat to put on one bike. So just keep your head up and keep at it.

Doing any exercise at all will help to lose weight, and if you're a new Mum, then taking your baby out for a walk might be the best thing that you could do. My friend lost all of her baby weight by taking him out and just walking around the streets where she lived for hours. You could also try and do lots of sit ups as they can help a little bit, and lifting weight is supposed to be good for improving that particular area of the body. I know that my measurements have improved a lot since I started lifting, so this is something that I would recommend to anybody.

Infact you are not alone. The truth is most women struggle with this problem after giving birth and in most cases, no matter how many pushup or any other form of exercise they do, they still cannot manage to get their abdomen back to the way it used to be. Our skin get stretched when we are pregnan and no form of exercise can give you 100% satisfactorily results. You will be able to lose weight but you will still have some slightly lose skin especially on the lower abdomen. Try doing legs lifting, push ups and exercise that help in building abdominal muscle.

It took me a year to get my stomach totally flat after my first C section and after my second it took six months to lose the weight entirely and has been an ongoing battle since. I am now down to 98.5 lbs with a 25 inch waist and I am 5' tall but my abdomen will be the bane of my existence til the end ha ha. Besides a good diet high in vegetables and low in carbohydrates and meat try to do something, anything daily. Crunches on the floor elbow to opposite knee, about 100 each side. Lots of leg lifts with weights. Stomach tight, leg bent and go up or kick diagonally. Standing squats with your stomach pulled in. Adding muscle to your arms with 5lb weights to your upper body also whittles your waist. My trainers told me this, I didn't believe him but he was right. Add a protein drink to diet with whey. Don't give up :)
