Today I had an amazing experience picking up a hitchhiker, this is the first time I've ever done this but people that are hitchhiking don't always look like people you want to pick up. Anyways I was driving through Petoskey because I had a tattoo appointment scheduled and I happened to see this young lady about my age at first looking like she was throwing her arms up in frustration and then I saw her stick her thumb out. I drove past at first because I was kind of already passing her as I saw her stick her thumb out.
Just before I saw her my artist had texted me and told me that he was going to be about fifteen to twenty minutes late, so I had time to waste anyways so I turned back around and asked her where she was headed. She said that she was headed to the Upper Peninsula and it turned out that she was actually headed to Marquette. I ended up driving her from Petoskey to Levering which was about a forty minute drive. The ride was really great though because it turned out we had a lot of things in common and we quickly got into a deep and enjoyable conversation.
I felt that I should pick her up because when I saw her I could tell by looking at her that she was going to be a really nice girl. She had on a really pretty dress and she looked like a character that I would see at a music festival and I knew from that she was going to be a great person to give a ride. Anyways once we started talking it turned out she lived on a farmer and liked growing vegetables just like me and she also liked meditating and doing yoga and things.
She was a really pretty girl and she began to talk with me about concepts in life and beliefs and we were quickly agreeing with each other and on a very similar level. We had really like thoughts and likes so it was a great car ride the whole way. I loved the conversation we had and once I dropped her off she asked for my address and if I would write back if she sent me a letter. It turned out that she's also going to a couple music festivals that I'm going to this year. After that she gave me a big hug and we both said how happy we were to meet each other and I wished her safe travels and told her I hoped that she would get to the Upper Peninsula soon.
Overall I was really happy about the experience and have been thinking about it quite frequently today. I hope that I see her again in the future or that she does write me because she was a really great person.
Anyways has anyone else here had an interesting experience in picking up a hitchhiker? Has anyone had a negative experience? What are your thoughts on picking up a hitchhiker?
Thanks a lot everyone have a wonderful day

There are many times that I see a hitchhiker and wish that I could pick them up but, to be honest, the safety factor keeps me from doing it. There have been so many terrible things that have happened in my surrounding areas to people that pick up hitchhikers that it makes it very hard to do so and feel safe.

Yeah that's the unfortunate thing especially when you're someone that wants to help people out. I live in a pretty safe area and the person I picked up I could tell was a really nice person and when I saw her she kind of looked familiar as well. There were also many things that had come together that day that made it seem like it was meant to be for me to pick her up.
It was a great experience though and if I feel comfortable with a hitchhiker in the future I will probably pick them up again. That's another thing about hitchhikers, a lot of them don't always look like they are people you would want to take the chance with, that's why I was happy to see someone that needed help that I knew I would be okay with.

That sounds really amazing. My husband has picked up a few hitch hikers before. He has never had a bad experience with it, he loves helping people when they need it.
I know some people say not to but my husband and I will never stop helping.
I am glad there are people like us out there that still help others. =) Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes...

That's great to hear that you and your husband do this as well, I haven't seen too many hitchhikers in my day and the problem is that not every person doing it is someone that looks like a person you would want to pick up as a stranger. But I think that as long as we feel comfortable with it we shouldn't hesitate if we have the time or can afford to help another person out.
I just felt so good after meeting her because the experience was great but I also gained positive energy and karma with it while it happened. We should always be willing to lend a helping hand because you never know when you can gain a friend and someone that can help you in return or pick you up when you're down in the future.

That sounds like a really great experience! Just today I was talking to a friend about how everything happens for a reason and how everything is connected. So you picking up that hitch hiker and finding that she had a lot in common with you made me remember that. I hope you see each other again soon since you felt such a good connection. That type of thing is not the easiest to come by.

Yeah this was one of those things where I definitely felt like it happened for a reason. I had just pulled into Petoskey and she just happened to be rounding the corner of an intersection and I just happened to see her sticking her thumb out. My tattoo artist had also told me that he was going to be like fifteen to twenty minutes late so I had plenty of time. I picked her up and drove her as far as I could go before my tattoo artist was ready for me.
Also another really coincidental thing is that the day before my parents took my car to go and get groceries and they filled up my gas tank for me so I didn't even have to worry about the gas thing, not that I really would have anyways.
I completely agree with you that connection is definitely not easy to come by and I'm always happy to meet someone that I can make a serious connection with. It's such a blessing to meet someone with similar interests to you and I am definitely grateful for finding new friends. Thank you for your response I hope you have a wonderful night and you take care and be well in the future :)
