I hope that everybody learns from what transpired during the CJ Corona's impeachment. The line that if you cannot be honest in your work, then don't go in a public government. As a public servant, we must always be honest. However, it doesn't apply to all. I believe that corruption doesn't happen only in the senate or in MalacaƱang. It happens everywhere in public government.

It means he can now be charged with other offenses. When he was the chief justice, he was immune from suit. Though I believe that that is not the reason for all the impeachment. I believe that the president wants to be able to influence the judiciary that's why they took out the most formidable non-yellow person in the judiciary. Clearly from the impeachment trial, it is obvious that the executive has huge influence over the legislative body, be it the upper (senate) or lower (congress) house. There goes check and balance. I would have lauded the impeachment efforts if the purpose is to cleanse the government of corrupt people. If the executive were sincere enough in this advocate, it should have started with the executive body itself. Best place to look? DOF (particularly BOC and BIR) and DPWH.
While the ex CJ was impeached because he did not declare some assets in his SALN, he could still prove that those properties did not come from illegal or corrupt activities. There is still a long way to go. And it would be good to look also at the SALN of ALL elective and other high ranking officials. So that they won't be accused of being "the pot who calls the kettle black".

I agree with you glory, even the ordinary employees of DPWH at the local level have Mansions too. They should be checked of their lifestyle, they own several cars and some have big businesses. Not only high ranking officials are corrupt.

I think the only thing that corona lost is his crown. He losses his name and position and most likely cannot hold any government position after this. But aside from this, he is still a millionaire and he can survive without even working considering the amount of money that he got.

Yeah, corona lost his crown.. I think he can't hold any government position like that old woman on tv who didn't declare her market stand..
YEah, it is still a mystery how he got all those millions..
But he kind of lost his face though, embarrassed..

I wish there is a way to prove his wealth are ill gotten so they could be returned to the government and could be used to fund government departments like health, education etc.. This way the nation will truly benefit from this impeachment. Imagine, 80k million pesos plus 200k plus million dollars!
I was shocked by Miriam Defensor's stand on this conviction I thought we could depend on her

WHen Bongbong Marcos voted for acquittal i kinda expected it before he said so. His family has millions of ill gotten dollars so it's expected that he will also protect them.

I guess that is what can impeachment court can do remove him from office. If they found evidence that would prove he has illegally acquired wealth then that would be investigated by other government investigating body like the ombudsman. I think having to remove the highest position in the judiciary is one big achievement from the legislative office that acted as an impeachment court.

There were surprises during the trial especially the last part..

Well jazel, Corona isn't afraid of losing all of them, because he has millions of pesos and dollars stashed away for future use.

I hope so too. I think there are other "Coronas" in the government. If they are really serious with cleaning up the government, i am sure there are still others who should be impeached, like what Mirriam Santiago said.

He vacates his position, which is what the Palace is after to cleanse the government in order to establish the right road towards good governance, i hope. The replacement process will then put more impact as that would mean high moral standards, sincerity, honest and dedication, and i hope Pinoy could pick the right one.

The purpose of an impeachment is to remove the following leaders from their posts:
1. President
2. Vice President
3. Supreme Court Justices
4. Members of Constitutional Commission
5. Ombudsman
Once they're removed from their offices, they are then stripped off of their immunity from trials. Hence, they can then be tried in court for bribery, graft and corruption or any possible cases that were used against them during the impeachment proceedings.
As for the case of Corona, since he's no longer the CJ of Supreme Court, he can now be tried for possible graft and corruption cases.

I agree with you its a waste of money for this impeachment rather to spent it in helping poor people. I do believe he is not only corrupt in the government but there still a lot of high officials that are very rampant that must also be in his place. I agree with senator Alan peter Cayetano, corrupt is a cancer of the country that is hard to cure. I'm praying that after CJ Corona had convicted it somehow will change our country.
