Well, i was wondering if you can help me guys with what i am supposed to do. The situation is like this: I am now on my last year in college, and i was wondering if i could still push through another course or career that is not related to my course right now. I mean, i have only decided to take this course because my parents would not approve of my interests, and i am stuck after 4 years but i am very interested in continuing my dreams because it is my life after all, and i only got one. I guess what my morbid story would like to ask is: What would you do if you were on my shoes? And if you can please consider the parent factor, which is never to be ignored, because you can never ever ever tell them, because freaking out is not even the word for it, its banishment and complete family disgrace. Help?

Have you seen the three idiots movie? If so, then the movie portrays everything about your problems and the advice you need! If not, then all i can say is that if you really really really want to pursue your dreams then DO IT! You already said it! Its your life after all and you only got one. Your parents will understand your decision if you will just explain it to them and let them see that its what you want to do and that is your passion. They will not accept it right away but eventually they will if they see your efforts. Furthermore, they will not think of it as a family disgrace if they know that it is for your happiness. Hope this helps=)

Im guessing you are an engineering student :) i dont know why indian parents put so much pressure on their kids especially sons. i dont know what you want to do, if its something like acting the i wouldn't advise you to change careers but if its something creative and you are good at it and believe you can be good at it, then go ahead!! good luck.

Why not? if you can afford it then go for it. I followed my parent's wish before and it didn't end well lol..so go follow yours and explain it to them, you are an adult now.

Umm... certainly your situation is really complicated. If we do not think about what parents will say and feel, then I think you should go with what your heart says and move ahead with a career or course of your choice. because it is no use if you do something in life which you don't like, you'll always repent doing it. Now, as you said, your parents will object on your decision and even if they permit you to do so, they'll feel disgraced and be disappointed. So, I think you should try your best convincing them somehow. I mean there is nothing wrong in asking them or trying to convince them right? after all they are your parents, they will definitely try to understand you. You have got your life, you can study and do another course still ! I really wish and hope that you get to choose something which you love to do, with everybody's approval! :) Have a great future! :)

I did not completely understand it. If it was not a career you need in your 4 year school education, you can start your part time job out of campus to accumulate experience for doing other work. After graduation, maybe you shall follow your parent's advice depends on how much you depend on them economically, and then you will get married and get a family. You will have your own money, you will be free to try some new career, nobody will bother you then.

Hello Nath, first I welcome you to mylot community. At first, you should have gone to the course you wish to do. It is not by shouting at your parents. You have to explain how you are passion about the course you wish to do. If you have did that earlier you would not wasted your four years and also the stress you would not faced. Let it be. Now if you have to go to the course you wish for, you have to explain it to your parents. You are still wishing to do. Definitely they will understand you if you explain it rightly. You do what you wish for. Best wishes.

Hi Nath! Welcome to myLot! You can still take another course if you like. You can continue studying after you graduated on that course. Since you had taken already the minor subjects which is true to all the courses. Most likely, you will only be taking the major subjects for other course of your choice. Studying is a continuous process. Have a nice day!
