My son showed me this huge bump that he has on his stomach a bit away from his belly button. I felt the bump and its like the size of a small plumb. He had another one and its scabbed up right next to it. He is in weight training and practice for other sports. He has been very quiet lately and seems to be eating okay. His sleeping is off, but it always is. He is 16 and just decided to tell me since his friends have also asked him whats wrong. So I will be calling the doc in the morning. Does anyone in here know about this? He said its a very dangerous thing. Or could it be another type of infection? He read about it online and I know with my experiance with this, you will be thinking you have everything and soon will die. LOL ( this is just my previous searches for myself and its easy to get all worked up with symtoms.,,)

It probably was a Staph infection of some kind, and I am hoping it is all cleared up by now. But these are contagious so hopefully everyone close to him is not having any of the same issues, or did. But if you took him to the Doctor then they should have given him some Antibiotics, etc. and things should be on the mend.

Thank you for your response. :) Yes it was a staph infection. He was given antibiotics, and a cream. It ended up coming to a head and bursting, which was gross! Then we went to the doctor and he drained it the rest of the way. Which made it quite a deal more uncomfortable for him. But its much much better now. ~C~

It makes you feel like the gym is not being cleaned properly, but actually, staph bacteria is present on the surface of everyone's skin. sometimes it gets into an injury or would. So it sounds like this was a boil or a cyst. Did the doctor suggest any way to prevent it?

I am not a doctor, and I really have no clue about the bumps or lumps on your son's abdomen, but I do know about MRSA, as I have worked in health related fields quite a lot. MRSA -methycillan resistant staphylococcus Aureus is an increasingly common type of infection. It is a staph infection that is hard to treat with almost any common antibiotic. It can be very serious. You catch it by coming in contact with the bacteria in body fluids or on shared surfaces, or from someone who has been in contact and not washed hands. Sometimes in gyms and activity centers, if someone with the infection has an open sore or gets a scrape, say during wrestling, or basketball others may get it. In nursing homes they often make everyone who is in contact with someone who has it wear disposable aprons, hats, shoe covers, gloves and masks. It used to only be caught in hospitals, but it is in communities now. This is why it is important to clean and sanitize equipment that is used in sports and cover open wounds with band aids. Practice good hygeine. This is related to all that "flesh eating bacteria" that you hear about as well. Please do be sure to see your son's doctor soon. He will have answers that we do not about this situation. I do hope it is some common infection or injury that can be quickly healed.

I second what GardenGerty says. Take him to a doctor immediately. MRSA is very serious and left untreated can cause major problems!

Thanks you two. I did take him to the doc that very next day. The when it burst. And then again 2 days later so that the doctor could check it to be sure it was healing properly. He had a full regime of antibiotics. It was a staph infection but now seems to be healed up nicely. I am pretty sure that it was from the gym since he has like 3 gym classes.
