My Dog is a killer ... literally

My Dog, a korean jindo (looks like a japanese akita), just killed the neighbors cat. Before that, he's been bringing dead stray cats to my doorstep every now and then (and the occasional cat-sized rat). The neighbors don't know this yet. What do I do!

think you should get a chain for him, i feel sorry for those cats. make sure its long enough so that he can walk about and when you have the time you can take him for longer walks.

I really don't like tying him down... he gets frustrated. I've made sure he has enough freedom to walk inside the house and the property, but that's it! He won't be able to roam anywhere else. thanks!

Um, if you KNOW your dog is killing other peoples pets you NEED to stop letting him run wild and kill as he pleases. You need to go tell the neighbors what happened, and take control of your dog before he attacks a child instead of another animal.

As of today, my dog's a housedog! He's not leaving the house ever! The neighbors were upset. Oh well. Had to tell them.

Whoah! That's sad. Was your dog outside? Where did he get the cat?? If the cat is just freely walking around the neighborhood then perhaps you should just bury it and have nothing to do with it anymore. But if it's a good breed which they bought, I think you have the responsibility of telling them and paying for it. As for your dog, perhaps you should keep him indoors or tied outside or within your property only. Dogs are really like that, our dogs would kill cats that would stray in our property, it's their nature. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

He's now officially just a house dog! :) Never going out without a leash.

Oh my :( That was really sad. You need to stop your dog from killing small animals. Soon as he cannot see any smaller life to kill- what do you think will be next? Sounds scary huh. About your neighbors cat- you should tell them about it.

Thanks! I do believe your correct. But he's really a gentle dog around us (not with strangers). It's his nature, his breed i suppose... he doesn't like smaller animals! :)

You don't have to do anything. Only make sure all your fences are safe and he can't escape. Whatever small animal enters his territory is doomed. With all the respect to your neighbors' cat, you can't do anything. A dog that once killed a small animal, will repeat this forever. No training will help. If you try to train him, even with professional help, he probably will not attack any animal in your presence, but once he's alone, he will hunt again. It is written in his blood and he can't help it.

Eeks! Okay, well first it seems to be innate in him so you are going to just have to accept that and watch for that kind of behavior. Some dogs are bred to go after small animals for hunting purposes. My dog is, and lets just say she has successfully killed a skunk, and has come pretty close to grabbing the stray cats that roam the backyards in the area. If it happens in your yard...ie the cat comes onto your property and the dog happens to get it...nothing can really be done...I think. Actually there are some grey lined laws of what is your responsiblilty and what is not. I would look it up for your state/country to see what your responsbilities are as the owner. Maybe keep your dog in for the time being...and make sure he is secure on tough leash for walks. You really can't stop him from what he was meant to do though when you are not there...

You better tell your neighbor about it to avoid misunderstanding and try to say sorry and apologize about what happened.
