In a month time I will be deployed outside my country, where I have lived for like 30 years! I know it will be a lot different from my home country . I have a family of my own, with one son,but they will not be traveling with me . However, they will be joining me after 3 months the most. As early as now, I have been worrying about living alone as an alien, working with people from different culture. What I am more worried about now is homesickness, which I know its too early to worry about. I want to hear from you, myLotters on how you cope with it for the first month. And how you deal with moments when you really want to go home ???I will appreciate it much if you will share with me your experiences as an Alien worker.

Hello there vanate! I know it is the main problem most people have when working and living far away from their families. It's hard but you have to keep in mind what you are working and stricing for. And as you said, they will come join you after 3 months, isn't it? so maybe 3 months is just like a week when you don't think of it too much... Just keep busy and think that you are being loved even though you are miles apart. I haven't tried being and living alone far away from my family, but you have to take the risk and make things happen. Just focus on what you are doing and why you have to work as alien...

Thanks a bunch! I will keep this in mind. And you're right, I need to take risks to make things happen. After all, I wouldnt be here if not for good reasons. Thank you again!

I worked and stayed in Dubai for 10 months but I was lucky since my aunt and cousins are also their so its kinda okay for me in a couple of months but still I missed my mom, brother and my hubby who was still my bf at that time. I know how you feel but 3 months is just a little time that you need to wait for your family to join you. Just pray that you'll do okay with your life away from them and make sure to do the best that you can at work for the sake of your family. At least you are lucky since you have the opportunity to bring your family with you where you are going while others worked away from their families for years. Good luck with your work and hope everything ends well.

Hi freymind! Thank you for wishing me luck. As they said, I need to keep myself busy and before I knew it, 3 months will be over. I wish you all the best too, I hope you're with your family now.

I am not working abroad as this is what i am afraid of... but i do have friends who are working overseas and from what i know they try to get rid of homesickness through being in the internet most of the time, at times they bond with their new friends there, travel through places or watch movies.. they try their best to have fun rather than think of homesickness..

If only my profession here in the Philippines were well paid off, I would still choose to stay here and be with other members of the family. Those tips are well noted. And I might be keeping myself busy here with other myLotters! ;) Thank you.

Hi there. Just keep yourself busy. Keep working till you get tired then sleep and when you woke up go back to work again. Friends help but make sure they can be trusted. It's hard to find good friends nowadays. You can have lot of options when you're working abroad. Aside from participating religious organization. It's time also to practice and develop your hobbies like writing poems, playing instruments like guitar or piano or anything you like. Hope this helps. Happy mylotting!
