I guess this is another rant, but it just happened here at work and I have to get it off of my chest so that I can plaster that fake smile back on my face and 'sell-sell-sell!'. Anyway it is a very slow day today here in the mall and I was taking the down time to dust and stock the store before the busy weekend. I saw a group of college students come in, I greeted them and asked if they needed/wanted anything and they all said "No, we're just looking." Well in my store we have some demo stuff sitting about, and that was what these college kids were playing with, a stupid laughing monkey. well when I got around the corner they had left, and the monkey went with them. It is a twenty dollar retarded and terribly annoying thing that **I** have to pay for!!! not to mention the rechargeable batteries in it.
And to make matters worse, because I didn't get a good look at them I can't call the cops to make a 'formal report' and because they left my store BEFORE i was aware what happened, I can't call security because there is nothing they can do, according to their policy. I know it was them too because they were the only people in my store, and had been the only ones in for about an hour.
No we have no security devices like anti theft, and we don't have cameras. It's up to the SINGLE person to keep track of the entire store, stop theft, help customers and make big sales WITH NO HELP.
I am so disgusted on both sides- with my boss for pretend to be so broke as to not spend the money on cameras or anti theft stuff AND at the ingrates that stole it, because it was used, and beat up from being played with everyday, and because they freaking stole it!!
I want to call my boss SOO bad and tell her about it, and tell her to shove it up her *insert family unfriendly words here* tail, and the job too. But I need this job, until I can find another one.
Do you guys think that employees should have to pay for stolen merchandise if the store has not set up any anti-theft anything?

I agree, and if I didn't need this job soo much I wouldn't be, I would tell her to pay for it herself since she was too cheap in the first place to put in a security system.
Yes, yes I know I am mylotting at work, but it is soooo slow today. That's what's really irratting me about them stealing it! I havent even had enough business to pay for me to be sitting here mylotting lol!

It is horrible when you have to witness things like that, especially if you're not able to do anything about it and you just have to carry on with your day. However it is not your fault that it happened, so there is no way that anybody should have to pay for the goods. However, you might want to ask at the other local shops and see if you could use their CCTV footage to get a look at the people who took the things. You might find that they show their faces to one of their cameras once they were no longer watching out, and this means that you may actually be able to catch them after all.

That's a good idea. I just talked to the manager of the store right across from me, and she personally saw the group leaving my store but she didn't see that they had anything on them, except a bag from burger king, (which my missing monkey would have fit into). However her cameras didn't get anything because they didn't go close enough to her door. Thanks for the post!
