Euro Prospects: France: Will they self-destruct again?

France was one of the ugly moments of the last world cup. They first made it to the world cup only on the basis of a hand of god part 2. And in the world cup, the mutiny and sending off of players was a real disgrace of the Cup. Now in Laurent Blanc, they have a manager who as a player has won it all and has been a part of the golden generation of France. Do you think he has rebuilt the team to come out of the disgraceful events of the world cup? The French midfield is brimming with talent with the likes of Ribery, Nasri, Malouda, Diarra and Ben Arfa. But up front they seem a bit thin with only Benzema fighting for a place amongst the top clubs. What are your views on France's chances at the Euros? Cheers! Ram

My first love in soccer falls at 1998. That was the World Cup in France, and they happened to be the winner at that time :D Also Zidane was the one who made me fall in love in this game, too. While now in my opinion, France hasn't found any replacement for him, i still support France in this Euro. OK, the last World Cup was s*ck with Domenech responsible for that. But i also being realistic that France won't become this year's champion.

Yes, Zidane era was the golden era of the French Football. Now that era has well and truly ended. It is the generation next for the French and it would be interesting to see how they are coming up. Cheers! Ram

i think it is the first time, after euro cup 2000, they play without thierry henri, one of their legend... like or dislike, france seems face new days without henry and zidane.. ribery is good..but this is team sport and ribery needs friend... sometimes i think he like play by himself and no one help him.. what`s going on with france?? i do hope france did not continue their bad performance in world cup 2010..it is one of their worst world cup after they win in the first time in world cup 1998

I think their midfield is quite good with the likes of Ribery, Gourkuff, Nasri, Malouda and Ben Arfa. If only they could get a good goal getter it could result in good success. Cheers! Ram

Well they do have the players to have a good tournament. I don't think they can go all the way but since Blanc seems to has his team under his control we won't see a repeat of the WC10 incidents.

Yes, what we saw at the WC10 was disgraceful. As long as we do not see such incidents, I think France will actually do pretty well. Cheers! Ram

Yeap they do have the quality as a team especially if you consider some of the players that they have, Llorris as a GK, Evra/Mexes/Koscielny/Reveillere/Clichy in the defensive line Matuidi or Diarra as a defensive midfielder and a deadly attacking force with Ribbery,Nasri,Ben Arfa,Malouda,Benzema,Valbuena,Giroud and Menez.

Talent is only 50% of the game, you could have an all star team that can't gel and get thumped by the average Joes. I don't think France has what it takes to go all the way yet again even though on paper they have some special stuff.

Do you reckon they have not yet got over the shambolic events of the last world cup? Or do you think the team is not yet experienced enough to be challenging for the big title just yet. Cheers! Ram

Actually the players have shown talent at the club level. So there is talent, it is a question of getting molded as a team and performing at the international level. Cheers! Ram

I feel it is more a lack of experience together as a whole on the big arena but hey the youth have done it in the past so i hope I am wrong and France shows us a thing or two.

I put the fracas at the world cup down to the poor management of Domenech. Now with Blanc at helm, I think it will not happen again. While they might be thin upfront, the likes of Ribery and Nasri is more than capable to chip in their fair shares of goals. As for its chances, I rate them as the dark horse, maybe the fourth favourite to win the trophy.

Yes, Domanech did manage things poorly when he was at the helm. Which is why it was surprising he was given two terms by the French FA. Cheers! Ram
