what is the scariest movie any of you fellow cinema fans have ever seen? usually, scary movies do not bother me at all, but not long ago i saw the shining for the first time and it was really scary! but after too much prolonged scariness it just became annoying! what are the scariest movies you have ever seen, and why? (oh, and i just remembered another one, an old movie. hush, hush sweet charlotte was really scary and creepy and i didn't expect it to be!)

I was brought up by puritans on a scottish island so the 'whicker man' is like a picnic to me and i enjoy horrors rather than being afraid.
Good horrors are few and far between but the last good one i saw was 'Descent' about a group of girls potholing.
The film that gives me the most chills was 'Dr strangelove' because firstly Reagan then the Bush's and now obama all give me a shudder of fear as i think how they could all fit in to that movie's scenario.

Did you read the book, "Descent," ajk111? I read it and it was great, but so much better than the film. I don't think whoever made the film even read the book.

Lately, I watch Paranormal activity 3, it wasn't that scary as the second one though. So, I would pass that one. What other scary movies I saw, it was none recently. Lately, I wasn't in fond of horror movie though. Maybe I am growing older and older, I felt that I couldn't handle the horror anymore.

Im typing this so fast since this is such a great question.
Scary movies and getting creeped out appeal to me when I feel numb and my emotions just come to a halt. So I've seen a lot of scary movies in my life, one of the first and most interesting one I saw, was "The Ring", followed closely by its sequel "The Ringo Birthday" and "The Grudge". There is something about those walking pale corpses with their black hair covering their faces that has now become comfortable for me to sit through, as I've seen all three movies several times, with great interest. I feel as if I could just give a big hug to Samara herself.
I also have to add, that "The Exorcist", "Paranormal Activity" Series and other such scary movies are nothing compared to "The Grudge" and "The Ring".
Please oh please tell me that you have seen the afore-mentioned favourites of mine so that we can launch into a deep giggly conversation about past memories and delve into our secret pleasures of Television experience.
Yours Truly,
JZIAKHAN, Happy Mylotting.

I actually don't watch scary movies. Though I was able to watch one and from that time on I don't watch any scary movies anymore. I know it is just a movie but to tell you honestly I am that scared. It doesn't matter if you call me coward but you could not push me watch this kind of movie anymore.

i don't blame you at all ginspearl, and no one should call you a coward for this! a movie is just a movie! real life is much harder, and scarier, and we should save our courage and energy for that!

The scariest movie that have ever seen was the "The Grudge 2" last 2006. I love horror movies but this one was very different for me because you cant hide anywhere they will show up even in a small shadow or under your blanket. Also I got scared because I watched this movies alone.

The scariest so far was Ringu (The Japanese version of The Ring.) and a Filipino movie in the 80's... (I'm Filipino, BTW!) Ang Babae sa Banga (The Woman in the Urn). Really made me wet my pants and I wasn't able to sleep without someone beside me for a month!

i know what you mean about dark/sleep time moonlight! i recently watched a haunting in connecticut, which was pretty scary, and i was quite glad to have my husband and the princess (our dog) with me for a few nights after it was over!

Maybe it was because I was a child, but I think The Watcher in the Woods was one of the scariest movies I ever saw. It was eerie. And it was from Disney. My sister rented it as an adult to see if it spooked her just as much as it used to, and she said it did.

Hello psychoartist! Most scary films I've ever watched are created by Japanese and remake by other countries but none of them bit the original. Ju-On: The Grudge (2003) is one of the most scariest film so far and when the American remake it they didn't justify the entire film. Japanese actors and actresses face are much more expressive plus the way they deliver their lines, though we depend on subtitles.

Hmm, can't really think of any really scary movies.
However, when I was a child, I was terrified by the television commercials for, 'Rosemary's Baby' and 'It's Alive!' These commercials terrified me. I can still imagine them.
There is a program that terrifies me, although it is not thought of as a movie in the normal sense of the word. When George W. Bush was the President of the United States of America, I looked to his State of the Union addressess with great trepidation and horror! When he was actually delivering his address, I vacillated between wild fits of laughter (as if watching a comedy) crying (as if watching the saddest drama) and horror (mixed with outrage.)
I often wonder if at the end of the film, The Blair Witch Project, when the person is standing and shaking and crying, if they had just been exposed to one of W's State of the Union addresses?

thank you page turner. like you, i found the entire bush administration a horrorfying experience second to perhaps only another holocaust or zombie apocolypse. when i was a child, the television show baretta! i think it was the parrot.

Baretta was a creepy show.
I preferred Barnaby Jones. No parrot. Plus, Mr. Jones seemed friendly from his time as Jeb Clampet and I was proud of him for getting an education and rising continuing to be a good man despite all of his black gold wealth.

i do not usually like scary movies- i prefer action adventure films and educational documentaries.
there are a few movies i really like in the horror variety, hitchcock's psycho, the shining and saw part 1.
i saw a movie a few years ago called hostel- have you seen it? it was not so much scary but very gruesome- the images stayed in my mind long after i saw the film.
there was an old series on tv from the 60's called boris karloff presents- thriller. very well made and well acted.
buy it on dvd if you can- some episodes are scary even today.

I have seen some but usually I do not find them scary. It is not that I used to find them scary earlier and now I am not. The movies literally do not have a scary impact on me as far as I remember. I think it is real difficult task and would require a lot of creative effort and special effects to make a movie that we can call scary considering the maturity of mind these days and evolving further. Hopefully we would get some for sure in future.
