Ignorant mother run over her daughter

That wasn't meant to be happen like that, only those parents with careless behavior that cause traumatic accidents sometimes. From the late news report, a Maryland woman back her SUV on the driveway, and accidentally run over, or strike her 5 kids on the driveway. She claimed that she didn't see the kids, and instead of stepping on the brake, she step on the gas, and run over her children. Her oldest daughter, which is 8 years is dead, and others, not reported in the news. One in critical condition though. So, dear parents, do not rush when driving, take a good look behind before hit the gas pedal. That is one regret you might need to bear for your whole life.

hi kingparker, what a tragic accident...I could not imagine getting in my car knowing my children are even remotely in the area of the driveway and not make sure they are safely out of the way...Never mind out it happened the fact that it did happen....who could that happen, she hit more that one child? obviously.....what on earth was she look at knowing her children were near.... But as a mother myself, I do feel for the mother of the children.

I don't understand how it could happen either, bjc66bjc. It's incomprehensible. Sure, one child may wonder out of the line of sight, but how could a parent not be aware of five of the presence of five of their children? How could a parent not LOOK behind them, especially if they don't know where their children are? I don't get it.

Anytime I'm driving I pay so much attention to everything, because I'm so afraid that I'm going to hit someone's little kid. Was the woman mentally unstable? I know she could have hit the gas instead of the breaks if she was really panicked, but it seems that she would have seen them early enough so she didn't have to panic. It's sorta hard to miss five children if you're paying attention to what you're doing.

She is perfectly fine. The police question her, and didn't press charge yet. But mentally, she is in torment.

Every vehicle has blind spots but bigger ones seem to have more. I don't think it's fair to blame the mother. I'm sure she is devastated. I knew a man who ran over his youngest daughter and killed her. It was so tragic. She was on her tricycle and happened to ride behind the car as he was pulling out of the driveway and he couldn't see her. Accidents happen and it's very sad when accidents like this do.

It has been said that SUVs have a lot of blind areas for the driver at the rear part which is why they suggest installing those video optics at the rear attached to a small video screen in front. It's sad really, I was just wondering how she could have missed them hearing them playing before she backed up and drove. Indeed sad.

Yeah that should be installed on SUVs. If they can't afford it, maybe a rear mirror or rear sonar alarm could serve as an alternative.

That is a horrible story and it seems that these parents just do not have their heads screwed on right. I wonder what she was thinking when she got into her vehicle. How could you not know your children are playing in the driveway? And besides, what were that doing in the driveway to begin with. That is a tragic story.

That is just sad! I feel sorry for both the mother and the children. Precaution must be taken when you're in the garage when there are kids in the house, either you're going in or going out. I won't judge the mother because maybe she's just had so many things on her mind. But, any way you put it, its still her fault. She's the adult here so she should have known better. The thought of her running over her kids is agonizing for her as a mother. May you find peace after this incident.

That is one of the reasons why I don't like SUV's because of there blind spots and they are heavy. I always look before backing up several times before I actually let my car start moving. I have a 16 month and I know how how quick little kids can be with getting behind things but she is never outside alone always with another adult.

Oh God! That is very sad.. :-( I always pay attention when I am backing out. I always let my daughter get in the car before I start the car.

This is incredibly sad and totally appalling! I have always been terrified of accidently running over a child, and especially of backing over. I take special care to look behind the vehicle when backing. I just can't understand how someone could back over five children!! Five! How??
