Many people take a lot of food that have a lot of calories in them. This causes a lot of different types of sickness and diseases. For me, I had a problem with drinking too much soda on a regular basis and I'm glad that at least in one week I was able to avoid drinking it, and generally I lost a few pounds and felt better about myself.
Anyway, what is it about sugar that makes it bad for us? Why is taking too much calories in our bodies makes us sick?

Sugar has a type of carbohydrates called fine carbohydrates. These type of carbohydrates are digested very fast by body making it readily available in body within a very short time. The extra carbohydrates is not utilized by the body and instead is converted and stored as fat. Fat is a major risk factor for many diseases.

Probably the sugar you are talking about are the ones we can get from sweet fruits. I heard the sugar from fruits and healthy unlike the processed sugar we buy.

Oh, so when you say fine carbohydrates it doesn't mean they are good for the body (I focused on the word "fine" so I thought is was good...lol). Anyway, so these are the carbohydrates that are usually stored as fats. Anyway, I would still say that sugar from fruits are different and they are healthy for the body.

Drinking soda can lead to weight gain. Because it contains too much calories that when not burned will deposited in our body as fat.
Too much sugar could also lead to intake of too much calories making us gain weight. Not only that, it also promotes blood sugar to shoot up leading to a diabetic condition. Too much calories is not bad as long we burned up those in excess. How? Thru exercise.

I'm glad you pointed that out. Exercise do help a lot in burning these extra calories from our bodies. I'm glad that last week I was able to at least have 3 days of exercising when usually I only have 1 day a week. I can only guess the discussions here in mylot and the members suggestions are helping me a lot.

So glad to have known this site and people like you, asdomencil. Updating my fitness from the moment I joined mylot I weigh about 160 lbs. and currently my weight is 154 lbs, so I lost a total of about 6 pounds already and I can say the great factor to that is mylotters sharing their ideas and giving me the necessary motivation :)

Every excess is bad; whatever it might be: water, sugar, sports, food.... You have to find a balance that suits you. Nowadays we have a lot of children with overweight here in Spain because they just eat to much food but also way to much sugar mostly because of drinking stuff like C@#a, F@*#a....
If you are thirsty drink water, eat what you need to eat, not till you are about to explode. Cut down sugar and salt and do some exercise 3 or 4 times a week and enjoy your health ;)

I would say that was a good plan you have just laid out, camalich. I think I did this for a week, but I know it doesn't stop there. If I want to keep losing more pounds ( I need to lose about 5 to 10 more before I feel satisfied about my fitness ), I should keep doing it week by week. Generally speaking, I would say I have good health but I just wanted to be more fit as well just like before for my own confidence.

I think the main points is that it's nothing but empty calories, calories that have no nutritional value. And of course taking in more calories than one can burn causes people to gain weight.
I'm glad you were able to stop drinking soda for a week. It takes tie but you will become used to drinking alot of water wich is better for your body and zero calories.

Good point. Yes, I think you're right in saying that there is zero nutritional value with drinking softdrinks, except with one material I read that says softdrinks help in melting kidney stones from your body. I'm not sure if there is scientific proof to back this up. Anyway, if I really want to lose weight I would have to continue avoiding it. Now I'm having another craving for it because it's so hot in my country. I would guess the temperature now is about 38 degrees centigrade. I would try to drink more water now and see if I could fight the crave...

The calories in sugar and soda tend to be empty, they have no other nutritional value. They don't feed your body, they just wind up as stored energy to burn and when you have too much stored energy to burn then you start gaining weight, getting diabetes, or clogging in your arteries. That last one tends to be more for fatty calories.
Anyway, soda is not good for you. It's sugar and carbon and stuff that you don't need too much of in your diet. You can get all the sugar you could ever need just by eating flesh fruit, plus lots of extra vitamins and minerals that you really do need.

They aren't bad for you, its a reflection of available energy in food. Too many calories (over how many your body burns in a day) will be stored by the body in fat.
Too few and you are starving yourself and your body will react by slowing metabolism and breaking down your muscle mass.

If this is the case, it would probably be better to eat six small meals a day to keep the metabolism high. I read about this before and how the diet of one-large-meal a day is bad because they slows down the metabolism. Anyway, I bet you take your fitness seriously judging from what you have just said.

The purpose of eating is to provide our bodies with just the amount of fuel and nutrition needed. For many people, the purpose of eating has become to enjoy the pleasure of taste and the emotional satisfaction of eating. That certainly feels good for a while, but later on it makes a real mess of things. Be patient though, the Mayor of New York city is working hard to give government control over you health and nutrition.

Calories make you gain weight, gaining too much weight will give you all kinds of problems.
Sugar is not good for you, it's not a healthy part of food. So when you consume foods and drinks with too much sugar, it literally makes you sick to your stomach.
It's good that you were able to stop drinking soda, soda is a big problem for people.

Personally i think that the calories will make us fat and this does increase the pressure of our body and more easily to get the disease. So a healthy body is indeed necessary and most importantly, try to exercise more will really be helpful.Hopefully my answer helps.Have a nice day.

Too much is always bad for us. It goes without saying that too much sugar can get us real sick. We can have the free ride to have diabetes. Diabetes is a dreaded metabolic disease, not only for the disease per se, but the impending complications if not appropriately controlled. I know this, I'm exposed to this kind of disease, because it runs in my family tree. My paternal grandfather, several cousins and a niece are diabetic. I learned that genes and lifestyle are factors by which we can get such. Which I have to watch also for myself. That's why, I make it sure that I minimize the consumption of sugar. I cannot say i should avoid but we need also sugar for our body, just enough sugar, so I could use it and have that energy for activities of daily living. I also make it a point, that I eat the right food and find ways to exercise.

Well the large intake of calories and no workout for burning that extra intake leads to accumulation of fats in our body and makes us obese.Though its difficult to curb your temptation for any kind of food but people who realize the prob;em at a right time are able to mend the problem timely. Its good that you are trying to reduce your soda intake.

Eating alot of BAD calories is considered empty calories. It really does nothing to help us in the long run. It gives you a sense of pleasure at first but after that you feel more tired and sick than you did in the first place. Your body needs fruits, veggies, and protien. None of that proccessed food. Also sugar is bad becuase your body wasn't really made to digest alot of sugar. When you eat alot of sugar your insulin has to spike to be able to catch up. This is why alot of people these days have diabetes.
Thats great you stopped drinking soda becuase the sugar level in those drinks are very high. Also carbonated beverages can cause an excess production of stomach acid, which can irrtate the stomach lining and cause a peptic ulcer. A peptic ulcer is an open sore in the stomach lining, esophagus or the first part of the intestine. Theses can be an be very dangerous and has to be treated immediatly.
Best of luck
