How Forgetful Are You?

Last night, my husband was watching TV when suddenly he started looking for the remote control. My daughter who was eating at the kitchen said that, "Papa you are the only one watching the TV, how come you lost the remote control? You were holding it just a while ago." So everyone went on searching for the thing. And where did we find it? Inside the refrigerator! He left it there when he got something to drink.\
My husband is 47 years old and he often forget about several things. Do you have similar experience? Please also share how you somehow address this kind of slight problem.

Oh, this looks like an interesting discussion!
Your poor husband! We once lost a cat in the freezer -- it was a side by side freezer and the cat must have jumped in when one of the children opened it to get a popsicle. Later, as we were eating, we heard the cat meowing as if from a great distance. We searched the house, then finally opened the freezer and saw the poor kitty hanging on for dear life! Fortunately, he was still alive and we warmed him up straight away.
I'm glad it was just the remote control and not an animule.
The older I get, the more forgetful I seem to get. Sometimes I worry about it, other times I forget to worry about it because. Usually because I'm so caught up in looking for things that I have somehow misplaced.
One of the things I try to do to help me in my forgetfulness, is to put everything in its place, such as always keeping my auto and house keys in the same place, etc. But I could see me doing something much like your husband with the remote.
Thank you for such a lovely discussion.

I sure am glad the Kitty story turned out ok. I just told my kitty to stay away from the freezer or it could happen to him LOL
another perk of most people is their age. When you turn 50 you are suddenly not that old so you would think.
I turn 60 in July and if I have a situation I need to know about by my doctor I ask him. he will say why are you asking that you are still a young woman!
I look at him like Sheesh so every 10 years I am getting younger to him but my mind is blowing in the wind??? LOL
Good for laughs anyway.

In the last couple of years, people have been greeting me as a young person. This is when I realized I was getting rather long in the tooth.

I am very forgetful. This reminds me of a time and where I got my forgetfulness from. One day my mother and I went out to walmart and but are stuff in the trunk. My mother had a coffee. Mom where is your coffee as we drove off I asked? she said oh man!! I left it on top of the car. LOL!!

I have had several major stresses in my life in the last 12 years. As a direct result of this I got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I started noticing memory loss was getting worse. Finally at age 57 I discussed with my family doctor that I needed to find out what was wrong with me.
I got scheduled with a psychologist and he put me through a series of tests and learning tasks.
He did tell me he was shocked that a lady as young as I (57) would come in to admit she was having this problem.
So after all the tests, he developed a six page report on my various tasks he had me do.
I am in the early stage of dementia.
This did not shock me I knew I was having problems laying something down and not being able to find it again.
So now I try to stay within a box so to speak.
If I move something I have to concentrate where I am laying it and pray I remember.
It was a little easier for me to accept what was going on that I had no control over once I had the diagnosis.
It was the not knowing that bothered me more.
Something stessful may have triggered this in your husband too. Such as if people were laid off their job, is he taking on a larger position and having to try to deal with the stress.
Maybe sit down and make out a list of things he is doing or forgetting and talk to his doctor on his next visit.
I was not ashamed to learn I had a problem. It has taught me to structure myself into smaller tasks.
My husband however did not want to agree with the report and told me if I would just slow down I would be ok.
So sometimes family members are not your best friend in helping you get help.
Good Luck to you and your family.

Hi marie! Thank you very much for the comprehensive discussion of the matter. Perhaps you are right. He is thinking about so many things, his job, his family (his sisters). So that might be one of the reasons why sometimes he can not hear me when I am talking to him. and that is also the reason why he always forget about so the things that he is doing. I know this is very dangerous our part considering that I am working in other place and there are times that I can not go home on a daily basis.

If he is not hearing you also you may want to have that checked. My husband worked 23 years in the Air Force aircraft maintenance and he cant hear anything. Got him hearing aids and he won't wear them says they are not comfortable.
So sometimes by the time I have said something for the 4th time, I am getting vexed, and then if I am talking to him and I have memory loss during the discussion, UGH what a life as you get older. LOL

I am about to be forty years of age this year and though I am still young, I still forget some things. I am not yet too forgetful but I tend to forget. Like for example, I just come out from my house but I forgot to take my cellphone with me. Most of the time, it is because I'm rushing. That resulted in me forgetting some things I want to take with me. Those things I can't forget are my debts. I want to pay those honest debts I incurred. People who are in debt with me are forgetful. The loan is gone and so are my friends whom I lend to.

Yes, you got it right. Those are the things we should never forgot. If you have friends who still owed you, it's about time to remind them.

i used to be a real forgetful person, i can leave my car keys inside the car and then realized a moment after that it still inside and i've locked the door! tell me some thing and i'll forget it in a moment, i think every people ever had the same problem, and i do believe we can change that habit by practicing a lot, build some guard for ourself and make rules to follow so that we're not become that forgetful again, i used to be a forgetful person, but then again i get some advice from some families and some friends which i think i should share it to you, is : try to make some notes for your own, we're not talking about making some notes about where the hell you put that remote control but to your own task, so that you won't forget some important things to do in your daily life.. in the office, before you go to work, or even before you go to bed, write down the list you might need to do at the other day or in the evening at that day too and take out that notes every time you have time or whenever you forgot about what you should going to do and every time you see at that notes, you'll remember back. do it for some terms of time and you'll get used to it so at the end i believe that you won't need those notes anymore.. i've tried this way before and now tell me something important i won't forget it anymore untill i done it, have a try :D

Hi cindy! Thank you for the wonderful suggestion. I will try to consider this option. Maybe I'll be the one to do the listing and paste it on the wall where my family could see. What a brilliant idea! Actually I am doing it for myself. But I just thought of it now to do it for everybody especially for my husband.

I am not at all forgetful. I have a mind that is razor sharp.
P.S. Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I kept forgetting about it as soon as I had determined that I would respond.

I have sufferred memory weakness most all my life; my mom was the same, my daughter is the same. What I try to do is engage my mind as much as possible, working online helps. To combat my malady, I try to always put things in the same place all the time. This has helped me keep up with most things. It is not fun to be so forgetful.

Yesterday, it happened to me too. I got a quarrel with my little boy, and then I went back to the room and try to watch TV, my remote control was missing. I asked my little boy:"Are you hiding my remote control because you are vexed with me?" My little boy just denied it. So my wife and me search it under sofa and under bed, finally my wife found it under the quilt in the bed.
Yesterday morning, I can not find my key for my electrical bicycle, the keys in the ring are three keys. One back, one silver, one red, I searched again and again, finally I have found it in the bag with skating shoes, the skating shoes got three colors on it, black, red, silver, I was drunken the night of the day before yesterday, so I thought the keys and skating shoes were same thing, so I put them in a same bag. I have not found how to address his problem yet.

Now when ever i misplace my mobile , the first place i look for it is in the car. So eventually i found it always. I have lots more experience to share but i wont. haha.. they are little too personal. So i am 22 and i do it. so cant relate it to age. :D

Then perhaps focus is also one of the key factors to consider. Thank you for responding to this discussion.
