friend of friend is friend to me

so many tell one quote that is friend of friend is our friend , enemy of enemy is also our friend . how is it possible. i was not able to understand this quote. naturally it is not possible. if possible means there is very little chance and how did it become a quote?

I also don't understand it. A friend of a friend of mine is not necessary one of my friends. I like to make my own friends, I wil respect the other friend(s) but don't see them as mine or feel obliged to be more friendly or give them any favours like I would give to my friend.
About the enemy I don't know. I don't have the feeling I have enemies or I know people who have, or perhaps I stay too much out of the sight of people to make any or to bother about that?

actually i like your opinion because i have also the same . but so many does not agree with this they blindly follow some sentences and argue with us. naturally we should have friends and not the other friends .

our enemy main aim is to destroy us. if our enemy's enemy become our friend means it is not correct for friendship. in that case we just us that fellow for our work and just leave it. and if we do friendship means it could be danger with that person in the future . so we could not accept all such kind of persons as our friends

I think you are taking the quote too literally, I think it has a bit of sarcasm intended to it. Or think of it this way, if two countries are at war with the same country, it would benefit those two countries to team up on the other one. Not actual friendship, by definition, but to those who want to win an alliance to defeat their enemy.
But enemy of my enemy.. i am not so sure about that.. although it is possible. I don't have enemies though..@srikanth777ias (326)

we should not choose friend blindly by introduction . we should choose by observing certain parameters in him like character, quality , honesty . and some others features. friend of friend becomes friend is not a correct thing.

Hi! Well its quite simple! If you have good friend and that friend also has a friend then that friend inevitably becomes your friend through your mutual friend! the enemy part has already been explained to you! Hope this helps!! Cheers!!
