I love the old musicals. Last night I watched The Court Jester with Danny Kaye. It was great and so funny! It's one of my favorites. Is the pessel with the poison in the flagon with the dragon? lol. I watched the Inspector General this morning. Later I might watch Oklahoma. Do you like the old movies? Which are your favorites? I used to watch them with my mom growing up and miss those days so much!

i am always saying i don't like musicals, but then i think of movies i like and they do seem to be musicals! for instance, every christmas i just must watch white christmas and cry. i love love love my fair lady, and even the sound of music. i also liked meet me in st louis, which produced one of the most well-beloved christmas ditties, have yourself a merry little christmas. but i have to say, i find oklahoma and south pacific just annoying! i have no idea why!

The Sound of Music is one of my favorites and White Christmas too. Forgot about those :) South Pacific is ok - it's more like opera music though in some parts.

That number is cute in the movie. There was another cute one at the start of the show. I will have to try to look it up later to remember the name. lol.

The South Pacific is great when she washes that man right out of her hair. (This was a commercial for the television years ago. Even though I felt betrayed when I saw the commercial, it brought back grand memories.)

I grew up on old movies, most of them seemed to be musicals. My parents were very strict on what my sister and I watched. Before I realized who Michael Jackson was I had already seen more Judy Garland movies than most fifty years old. Some of my favorites are Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Pirate, Meet Me in St. Louis, and Babes in Toyland (the one with Annette Funnicello). But how could I forget Singing in the Rain? That's a great one too. Some old movies that aren't musicals but are good are The Courtship of Eddie's Father and The Apple Dumpling Gang.

I enjoyed The Courtship of Eddie's Father and the Apple Dumpling Gang when I was a child as well! Haven't thought about those in some time.

I love Meet Me In St. Louis and Singing in the Rain too. Those are awesome! I grew up the same way. I watched Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, and all the old talented actors!

well, those "road shows" are expensive because there's a lot that goes into them...
First, they have 3 full sets, one being used, one being struck and one being built at all times. The actors have to be paid and housed and fed and the like. They actually have to pay rent on the venue - that is actually what comes out first from the box office receipts...
What we saw were community shows most of the time. I think the only roadshow I ever saw was Cats.

The plays must have been great to see! Huge productions - I just saw Wicked in London and that was fantastic. West Side Story just rolled into my area of NC so I might take the kids to see that if the tickets are not so costly. Why do they have to charge 80 dollars for seats way in the back? It should be affordable so everyone gets a chance to appreciate the arts.

I love the old musicals as well. South Pacific is one of my faves.
Unfortunately, my S.O. isn't into musicals, whether old or new, so when I'm jonesing for an old musical, I usually just have to sing Show Tunes when I'm driving alone.

My ex-husband did not like them either! lol. My kids will put up with one once in a while if it is a funny movie. I mostly watch them alone.
